The other day at my local arcade, the coin line was about seven people long, and rolling well, people were playing in pairs, and all was going well. I was next, and had waited my turn for almost 20 minutes very patiently, giving others who played before me words of encouragement, and words of advice. The person in front of me and someoene else steps up, and player #1 (we'll call him bob), puts his coins in, and asks if he can play alone, Player #2 very nicely let him, even though it disrupted the line. he selects his difficulty, only to start playing Neo Naoki Standard. Seven and a half minutes later, he fails at the tail end of D2R, and the whole remainder of the line who didnt flat out leave was pissed. I played, and things went ok. When he went next, he picked another Oni course, and I flat out left, along with others who were irate about the situation also. My question to you is: Do you find it rude for a player to go into a 7-9 minute playtime in the midst of a very busy coin line? Do your arcades have rules against this? And would you punch this guy in the face/ask him to leave if you were the owner, assuming he was responsible for making almost all of the people leave. |

I don't think it's too bad because with Oni Courses you also run the risk of screwing up very early in the very first song, making the waits shorter.
And be lucky he didn't play World Tour, 9 stages would be something to wait through. But Neo Naoki doesn't have D2R, you must mean Naoki Standard, which is actually longer. |

If no one else were playing on Oni, I'd say yes it's a problem, but if anyone were willing to play the courses along side him, it seems reasonable to me. As the owner though, I'd see money going into the machine at about the same rate (assuming two players) so it wouldn't be my problem unless someone complained. |

at our macine (which dosnt get huge huge groups of people ) the rule is that if yoru going to do doubles oni or nonstop you put two coins dead int he middle of the machine (right above the middle screw) that means that youve bought both pads (even if you end up just oding singles oni or nonstop or what not) and ses you were thier first you can do that _________________

if i had to follow any such rule where i usually play, i would never play an oni course ever!
i suppose it would also bad if someone got an extra stage or one more extra stage too or if someone wants to take the full 99 seconds to recover from the previous song. one game of regular ddr i would guess is no more than 9 minutes which is shorter than most oni courses anyways.
it doesn't matter how busy the coin line is. it's your money, play what you want. ugh, wasn't a topic like this locked in the past? |

This isn't really a factor at my arcade seeing how we have the songs set to 5. Usually an Oni course takes a shorter time than someone playing normally. I don't play it much, but even if there is a coin line, nobody would mind if i did.
Now on the other hand, I could understand if somebody picked an Oni course, played the first song, then failed on the second (or even on the first) and is like, "OMG, that sucked. I'm playing again," I could se how that would make people mad. but just choosing an Oni, come on dood. No biggie. As others stated, Oni is part of the game, feel free to play it whenever you feel the need. ARR!..Peace. |

There's no problem man. It may be annoying and yes, I probably would feel like punching the guy in the face but theres nothing the arcade can do. Plus it's pretty petty to start a fight over a game. _________________

I hate people who cut in the coin line.
I don't mind people who play Oni in a busy line, but I usually don't do it in a crowded arcade just out of respect for everyone who waiting. |

Translation: I was too pissed, but I didn't do anything.
Why not talk to him and ask him not to play Oni next time? The Good Lord gave you a voice. |

Nobody plays Oni here. Back in Columbia it was pretty popular, but a LOT of the players here are complete noobs. I am TRYING to promote ONI because of the competition factor of it.
I would encourage people to play Oni mode, long coin line or not. And in fact , since nobody here is messing with it much, it would almost asuredly make for SHORTER waits anyways.
What I would take offence with from the previous posts would be someone 'playing alone' when there is a line. Unh uh. Not in my place.
You want to play doubles? Fine. Put in 2 games worth of coins. No? Then whoever is up next gets the option to play with you. It is not fair to the other customers and it costs me money if you leave and empty pad.
If someone plays better than you and gets more play time because of it, you can play at a less busy time and work at getting better yourself.
I don't tolerate people cutting in line, playing twice when there's a wait, ghosting on the pads, etc. I want happy customers and a steady stream of dropping coins. DDR is too popular to put up with any crap on it!

I remember doing a calculation on this a while back because someone was always complaining about me trying to always pass World Tour. But if I remember correctly, finishing World Tour takes less time than playing a 4-song or 5-song set on normal gameplay if you're using up all of the time given to you (which some people in our area do).
I don't think anyone should complain about someone playing oni courses, because it's basically 4-and-out in most cases.

Sometimes the number of songs is 4, and when you choose an Oni course it's for. So there's no difference. If fact, it's better because the don't have to pick songs. If it was a 2-song machine, I'd be pissed. _________________

I frankly don't care really. It's a five song machine so you already have to wait a long time; sometimes you have the tourists or the n00bs that pick it on accident which quickens up the coin line too which is no biggy.
I really don't mind since I usually put my coin up or card up and then go play other Bemani or games near by until it is my turn. The people over here wait for you to go up so it's no rush either. That's particularly cool because we all know each other and stuff which is quite sublime. D _________________

Don't worry if you can't pass any Oni courses. Maybe someday you'll be good enough.
Honestly, even on a 3-song machine, a 7-and-a-half minute Oni course will take just as much time or perhaps even less than a regular game. Think about it. The Oni player picks their style and course, and then gets to work. The regular game will have song selection, the mods screen and results screen three times, or four if Extra Stage is earned. If one minute is used on each song selection, and each song is about a minute and a half (which it is), then that's seven and a half minutes right there for three songs.
If people are annoyed about Oni "taking too long," just let them know that the Oni players are waiting "too long" for those pesky normal-mode players. =) All in all, every non-failing game of DDR averages around the same amount of time, and I'd estimate that's 8-10 minutes.

Oni Mode is a legit risk-reward play. You risk quick kills for extended play, fair is fair. I would do one thing differently, however...
Ask if the next player (or any players in line afterwards, if they decline) if they would like to play it too.
Arguing that Oni takes too long is like saying that "Extra Stage" would, too. Also, consider that Oni mode doesn't have players taking 99-second naps between stages as well. With an extra 30-60 seconds on the mod-select screen.
I played a couple games of Onidou on MAX 2 in excess of 10 minutes, but don't think I didn't earn it. Though, if there is a long line, I tend to at least pick shorter courses. I've also played a few that lasted less than 30 seconds, too... |

I once had someone bitch at me for playing 3 nines (all AAs) and then a 7 as my last song, getting extra stage.. they complained that I'm taking too long and that I picked an easy song to get extra stage. Next time I was up, I got my extra stage with Paranoia Survivor and gave 'em the finger.
Meh, play onis if you want. That's what they're there for. I don't view it as being anything out of the ordinary, although I usually try to warn people a full trip through the coin line in advance if I plan on playing one longer than 10 minutes long... not that I've managed to pass any of the longer courses yet, but still. It's just courteous. _________________
