thanks Larrikin, but i sorta already bought the system last week, but waiting seems like the best idea anyhow b/c no one else has done it yet. However, now I'm stuck with all these bemani games that i owned b4,eh i'll get over it.

Basically someone threw a brick through my window and stole a bunch of stuff, the PS2 being part of it, so i went and replaced it.

I don't know if this question has been asked and answered already but if it has then I obviously didn't read the previous posts well enough.

We all know that the 3.3 Swap Magic CD & DVD disc set works with the new slim PS2. Does that mean that you can play imports on the American version of the slim PS2 without any further modification? Or does the slimmer PS2 have to be a Jap. model?

If you're going the swap magic way, either wait for those PStwo Lids to come out or open up your pstwo and disable the disc sensors. Search on google to find out more about it.

laugh.gif If it were a Jap. model, why would you need one? To play USA mixes? laugh.gif

I have a question that I'd like to have answered quickly, as my copy of DDR Extreme JP comes tomorrow or so.

It states here, at this site, that "This item (a Swap Magic 3.3 CD & DVD Set) requires the use of a no-solder modchip, fliptop lid or slight modification on new Slim PSTWO."

I have a US PS2 with a No-solder type of modchip installed. Will these disks work with my modchip, without me having to shell out 40-50 dollars for a fliptop?

My mod chip is this piece of crap-
The first post in this topic wrote:
No Solder modchip
An internal modchip. Requires user to unplug a very fragile and expensive plug and plug it into the modchip. Requires user to swap ALL games to play. DOES NOT support 80 min games, original import games. No wires to solder. Easy Difficulty
V4 models compatible with all V4 PS2s, V5/V6 Model compatible with all V5/V6 PS2s
Can be found at www.liksang.com and www.consolesource.com
Grade C-

-the bolded part my concern.

Well all I gotta say is "F" that and go ahead and get a JA PS2 to save you the risk in getting your system fried. I was lucky enough to find a used one for about the same price of finding the best chip and installation fee (about $140.00) and it works just fine. They gave me Parappa the Rapper 2 to make sure if it worked.

Now I'm just anxious in getting all the other Bemani games and playing those to death but I don't know what to get first E19.gif !

I'm up for suggestions biggrin.gif .

I would, ah, really like help with my above question. My Extreme JP arrived in the mail today, and I'm sure playing it more fun than looking at it.

Ok I got my Swap Magic disks and they work great. I was just wondering which video setting should I use to play my Japanese Imports: Normal, NTSC, PAL?

Just to give some input I order mine from ps2cover.com, they have the cover bundled with 2 different swap magic discs. I don't know what people are talking about becasue it only took a week or 2 to get here from ps2cover. And everything you need for is there, the DVD swap disc is what works for DDRexJP plus the site has great directions for how to put it on.

I heard a rumor that Swap Magic can destroy the laser on the Ps2. Is this true at all? I dont want to do it if it will hurt the Ps2 in any way. I will not be using the slide card, rather I will install a flip top.

Thanks so much !

Those psTwo machines are engineered to fry when yo uputin a modchip!

If you plan on chipping your pstwo, you should, in addition to the chip, solder some resistors to limit the current on the tracking coils. details at www.ps2-scene.org forums (must register)

ALternatively, you can install one of the currrent versions of Magic V, which dont' seem to caue trouble. A matrix infinity is just asking for trouble unless you also add a fix.

Or just use swap magic. the latest disks work, and you can open the pstwo and modify the sensor switches.

Okay, I just tested it. Extreme JP doesn't work with my No-solder modchip, just as it said.

Now, if someone would be kind enough to actually answer (grr!), if I buy this product, will the fliptop and swap magic disks be able to work with or override the no-solder mod chip I have in there?
