So instead of looking at complicated symbols that denote beat you are just looking at the simplfied version of it all.
Interesting isn't it? |
If that's the case, IIDX is by far a better way to learn how to read music.
|
Hmm... I disagree slightly. Here's my stance.
I started playing DDR after playing music for four years, so I knew how to read music. Therefore, reading DDR came quite quickly to me. |
Dude, even if you don't know how to read music, it's still easy to read the arrows. Most of the songs, you can just ride the beat and do good.
Quote: | Even now, I'm really good at sight reading DDR steps. And even in turn, my music sight reading has gotten much better since playing DDR. I'd go as far as to say that sight-reading is one of my strengths.
However, when playing beatmania, I have to say that I don't find the sight reading connection as prominent. |
Play a 7* song around 120-130bpm on normal speed and get back to me...
Quote: | Both deal exclusively with rhythmic sight reading. Yet, DDR has a set form-- instead of having note values like in sheet music, each step is colored according to where it falls in the four beat measure. |
And that's why it's so easy to play DDR. With Beatmania, the notes still fall in place of the 4beat measure, but they didn't give them different colors. It's like playing on flat.
Quote: | Beatmania's rhythm is more based on where the note hit's the bar at the bottom of the screen. It's more difficult and less consistant than the rhythm system of DDR. |
Yes, it's more difficult and no it's not less consistant than the rhythm system of DDR. In DDR, you don't even need the music. You can silent attack many songs on DDR and still do well. You can't really do that in Beatmania because for one, you're not just pressing keys to stay on beat, you are playing the song in a sense.
Take Era(Nostal Mix) for example. On DDR, you just go with the beat. On the slow part, it's still on beat. On IIDX, you play out the song. You do the snares, the plinks, the f/x, everything.
Quote: | I'd say that DDR enforces sight reading rhythm, while beatmania enforces timing and reflexes better. |
It's the other way around. If you play Beatmania on a regular basis, you wouldn't even think about making a statement like this. I'm not saying you're wrong because in your case, that may be.
Ryu: I don't look at you like some stupid fanboy. If I did, I would be much more cruel. In fact, I think I understand you...somewhat. You're not as bad as I made you out to be. _________________

DDR builds reflexes, eye leg/foot co-ordination, sometimes helps you with the tripping over own feet thing...lol. it can help with getting out of breath, if you play it often. |

ok man, y does EVERYONE have something against me? cant u just be like the other 45000 people on this website and just post on the subject? is there really any harm in asking some questions and getting some opinions? Im SO sorry if youre not happy with some topics ive made. but thats too bad. just learn not to act like u want things done your way. not even the mods go that far to give me that crap
and whats the deal about asking other people if they wanna get wat crap u gave me? to tell u the truth, i just read ONE FRICKIN SENTENCE and deleted it. not everyone needs to know wat crap youre telling me. |
Maybe you should've read it. It would've helped you considerably as a poster on this message board. Well, if you took the advice.
If you want the cliff notes, too bad. I'll send you another copy.
And it's 'not just too bad' if I (well, if it were just me, I wouldn't care) have a harder time using these forums because worthless threads and posts mean that much more drivel to sift throught to find intelligent conversation. Do you really think we need mods to watch our language?
Oh, and the reason I took it down was because it would've more than likely be considered flaming. I won't incur those kinds of points if I don't need to. _________________

...
anyway, what about some of the social aspects of DDR?
conflict resolution: explaining what the coin line means, resolving arguments over line order
friendship: who knew that DDR would spark so many people to come together under one interest and many goals?
So Deep: being able to gallop and... wait nevermind
self-esteem: DDR can make a person feel like they have a special talent, and can also inspire them to stay healthy ^^
I think DDR is great because it lets evrybody have a chance to put on a show and be the center of attention for a crowd ^^ _________________

You can learn this by simple long distance running. Everyone acts like DDR is workout equipment or something. Geez, were you people so out of shape before ddr that you couldn't get yourself to do simple exorcise?

Well, sending you a PM about your poor posting habits obviously didn't work. The Mods haven't done a thing about it. Just looking at your profile makes the mind boggle at your lack of points. What better place then to confront you, then one of your (albiet much less than usual) pointless topics. _________________

So what if the thread is pointless... isn't that the point of chit chat. Small talk is pointless and you never know when you might learn something.
On topic: DDR can really help you learn to read music depending on what type of learning method your music teacher employs. I want to say the Kodie method (don't quote me) learns through establishing rythym and playing by ear not even seeing music till five or more years later. If a student of this method also uses DDR the can make the transition between what they hear and what they see on the sheet music that much easier.
It's also great for building stamina, making you more limber, and becoming coordinated. _________________

actually, i had two, its been a month, but none of them were for postwhoring or pointless threads. they were for bumping an old thread and telling someone where to get an mp3 _________________
