Official StepMania Help, Bug, Error, Fix, News thread

Ok, this might have been asked before, but so far I haven't been able to find it so I figured I'd ask in here.

I've got Stepmania on my X-Box. It works fine. At one point though, I recall when in Endless mode being able to hit select or start(I forget) and it would go to the next song. Now though whenever I do that it just exits back to the song select screen.

Anybody know where this option is selected?

my dumb question of the day is this (and im sure ive seen the answer somewhere but cant find it) i followed the directions carefully for characters and announcers (have bone files etc) and they still dont work also when i make my own dwi with x step how do you make a background/banner? i tried that in adobe and it wont appear in game even if i save as jpeg or png
help would be sweet - thanks! (very new to SM)

ok i know this has probably been answered somewhere and if it has could someone give me the link or answer this......i just installed SM on a computer i had laying around...nothing too old...not a Tangent or nething ::full body shivers:: and i installed the Extreme skin on it and it loads fine and everything but when i go to play a song, there are white boxes around my notes...i dont think its the video card but it may be. ive already turned all my Graphics Options all the way up and hardware acceleration is on so im just out of ideas. the boxes aren't just around the notes...they're around japanese words too. any help is appreciated.

There Is A problem With my Stepmania rc2. It Is Oddly Off beat and I have tried a lot of methods like changing the judge windows, timing using the SM timing Windows configuration thread and changing it in the actual game. I am using windows XP with an nVIDA GeForce4 Video card. Can Anyony help me?

Also, 4 of my songs are not working. I got the Bit Torrent bumper pack of Dance Dance Revolution 8th Mix -Extreme- From ddruk, And the songs Dance Dance Revolution, Happy Wedding, Last Message, And The Least 100 Seconds are not working. When I want to select 1 of those 4 songs, It Doesnt Give A song Preview, And The Song Banner fades Into Pink. And Even when I select the song, The Arrows are moving but there is no song and The Background just shows 2 DDR Arcade Pads. When I checked Out The Actual mp3's, They worked perfectly, and when I looked at the Background, That Worked too.

So I go to ddramerica and download a torrent. I save it into my stepmania file, I open the torrent and... ERROR

Can Stepmania do this? You know how if you turn auto adjust on, it'll calculate how far off you were on each step? What I'd like is to see this kind of a listing output at the end of a song... in other words, for each step, show how early/late I was. Sort of a PA diagnostic tool. Anybody?

WOAH! I don't what happened, now all the songs are working. They dont have that pink banner thing, And The weirdest thing is that all the songs are on beat. This Is The Weirdest Thing That Has Ever Happened to me...

EDIT: My songs Are Still Offbeat. Any Help?

D.T.R. I am having the same problems that you had with the pink banner and no audio, except im using rc1. Dance Dance Revolution and Across the Nightmare give me the same problems. also, my banner/background for Luv To Me (disco mix) do not work but the file and the audio play fine. and lastly, the dwi file and graphics work for my Feeling of Love file, but the music wont work....help?

Hey, I used to have stepmania and it worked fine but my dad deleted all of it off about a month ago. So I went just now and downloaded the latest version of it, but when I click to open it my screen turns black and that's it. No error message. Just locks up and I can't do anything. What happened and what can I do? Any help is much appreciated.

i have been experiencing the same problem as darkdreamer42. I have downloaded stepmania rc2 because I have simfiles for in the groove that need mines, as well as wanting to have the option to add mines to my DDR songs. I currently have stepmania 3.0, but when i have treied to run any of the 3.9 alpha versions of stepmania I would experience the same thing. My screen would go pitch black and i could hear the music for stepmania, as well as the sounds from the inside of the game, but this wierd message saying check pc display goes into my monitor. However I have also checked the displays for my pc and updated the drivers for my processor. I do not know much about computers so any help to get my new version of stepmania up would be greatly apreciated.

I've tried just about everything to fix why movies won't work with my DWI. When I try to load a song with a movie, it will either loop the first few seconds of the movie, or less commony, simply crash the program. The movies work fine in StepMania, I just can't get them to work in DWI. Anyone know why?

my problem:

I managed to get my bns dancepad working with my computer through a smart joy plus usb adapter. I went into control panel and the games options, clicked on the smart joy entry, then properties to make sure the dance pad buttons registered, which they did. Although when I go into stepmania and try to use the dance pad nothing ever seems to go through. thanks for the hepl.
