How do you think DDR applies to other skills? i think it could be reading sheet music, cuz of the songs with chaos _________________

You are trippin... |
Sorry to break the news to you Reign, but he's right on the money. Each note carries it's own weight inside each measure. So instead of looking at complicated symbols that denote beat you are just looking at the simplfied version of it all.
Interesting isn't it?
DDR is the reason why I'm persuing a major in music. So that I can become a compatent musican instead of only playing pretending to be one. See what happens when you end up looking at arrows all the time.

eye-foot coordination
go ahead and laugh, but I don't fall over air as much anymore
since i already know how to dance it didn't help so much with my rythm skills, but it helped me a lot in choerography (sp) and freestyle, being trained it was hard for me at first to dance without a routine, but it's helped a lot with that =) _________________

Removed, because I realized I can just PM it to him.
Basically I had a big flame cannon aimed at Maxer'AA. If anyone wants to read it, PM me, and I'll PM it to you. All you have to do is put 'send me the flame' for the subject line and I'll get it to you.
Edit: And then I sent it to maxevans, because it applies moreso to him. _________________

Co-ordination, Reflexes are big ones of how DDR can be applied to your real life. Also, thinking fast on your feet could be one I suppose. _________________

God help us all. One would think that MUSIC would have been the initial reason.. _________________

ok man, y does EVERYONE have something against me? cant u just be like the other 45000 people on this website and just post on the subject? is there really any harm in asking some questions and getting some opinions? Im SO sorry if youre not happy with some topics ive made. but thats too bad. just learn not to act like u want things done your way. not even the mods go that far to give me that crap
and whats the deal about asking other people if they wanna get wat crap u gave me? to tell u the truth, i just read ONE FRICKIN SENTENCE and deleted it. not everyone needs to know wat crap youre telling me. _________________

I don't have anything against you... We cool!
Anyway it's helped me with activities were fancy footwork is important: football, sparring with friends, basketball, and this running thing I do in the woods were I rebound off trees and jump over crevices in rocks and such. I guess it's called freerunning cause I saw a Scion commercial that's similar to what I do! _________________

i think the only practical life skill that ddr holds is that its a topic of conversation. "yeah, i play ddr." "whats that?" "a dancing game" "what?" then you explain how the game works. and then they say it sounds hard. by the way, the guy that put up this post., i dig your teen titans pics |

oh, and one more thing: i couldve just PMed it to him, but since hes willing to share it with other people that makes it public.
getting back on topic...
that guy getting a music major, i wouldnt talk too much about WHY u want to get one. people look at me weird when i talk about ddr too much.
ddr definetly helps build leg muscle, and learn about music speed because of the BPM on songs _________________

If that's the case, IIDX is by far a better way to learn how to read music.
|
Hmm... I disagree slightly. Here's my stance.
I started playing DDR after playing music for four years, so I knew how to read music. Therefore, reading DDR came quite quickly to me. Even now, I'm really good at sight reading DDR steps. And even in turn, my music sight reading has gotten much better since playing DDR. I'd go as far as to say that sight-reading is one of my strengths.
However, when playing beatmania, I have to say that I don't find the sight reading connection as prominent.
Both deal exclusively with rhythmic sight reading. Yet, DDR has a set form-- instead of having note values like in sheet music, each step is colored according to where it falls in the four beat measure. Yet, Beatmania's rhythm is more based on where the note hit's the bar at the bottom of the screen. It's more difficult and less consistant than the rhythm system of DDR. I'd say that DDR enforces sight reading rhythm, while beatmania enforces timing and reflexes better. _________________

Try these bits of wisdom.
1. Y'won't know how good something is until you try. If any non-DDR people are here, quit knockin' DDR until y'tried it.
2. Everyone has their own learning curve. It make take someone just a few weeks - and others a couple of years - to get to 9-foot Heavy.
3. Everyone was a n00b at one point or another. So if someone is a DDR n00b - let them be.
4. If you have "two-left-feet" -- then get on that dance pad and learn.
And so on so forth... |

Your intial assumption was correct, but DDR just made the decision a little easier for me. I've been wanting to do this way before there was anything called DDR. So I'm not some weirdo like you think. My goal is to understand the science that we call music theory. But a dancing game couldn't have any connection with someone wanting to become a classical musician now can it?
I wish you'd stop looking at me like I'm some stupid fanboy. There are a lot of people on these boards that are far more qualified for that position than me.
