Ok im gonna get a Metal dance pad for x-mas, and i keep hearing about cartboard being put under some arrows. What the hell ? Im so confused can someone clarify? Or is it the best way to leave it how it is or is it strictly personal? * Like how it feels and how high you want it and stuff* I never had a metal pad before but, Is it easy to put toghetor? Is there like 9 squars or something and all you do is screw them toghetor? Any help would be helpful. |

The cardboard under the arrows thing might be about the Cobalt Flux. You see, the version two of the CF pads have 9 triggerable buttons with the center one having cardboard under it so it doesn't trigger anything for DDR use. _________________

I believe the cardboard under buttons you're asking about refers to customizing the button heights so that there is less give in the pad to simulate the feel of an arcade pad. First of all, to answer the bigger question, yes, pads should be modded, but should NEW pads be modded is what you're really asking, in which case I would probably say no UNLESS you've found very pad specific, tried and true, helpful mods, agreed upon by many that have been suggested on these forums. I say no simply because the nonspecific metal pad which you are a perspective buyer should be relatively functional right out of the box...I suppose something along the lines of don't fix it if it aint broke sort of thinking...and besides, you don't know what to mod without testing the pads out for a good duration. You also run the risk of breaking the pad when you're not too familiar with it, as it would be with your hypothetical new pad. It is truly user specific in terms of what you want done to the pads and any metal pad will need modding eventually from the sheer nature of what they are used for, but use it first and figure out the idiosyncrasies of your platform before you decide to make improvements.
As for the "is it easy to put together" question, most pads will probably only requre you hooking up the control box, if that. You will probably not need to assemble any 9 separate parts or anything like that...too much work for the good money you pay for these pads, right?...in theory they should just plug in and be awesome. If you want something more definitive, the metal pads I use came preassembled. For anything more specific, you should probably ask in the thread in which you read the review of the pad that you have in question.
And for the much much bigger implied question for all you other readers out there, yes, get a metal pad for home use. DDR is awesome. |
