Just wondering about compatability of stepmania with each of the things listed. I have a Radeon 8500 with the latest drivers. My harddrive is NTFS format. Just installed stepmania on my wifes computer and it is running fine"for now that is". Her computer is FAT32 and has a NVIDIA 440. If you scan down this forum you will read the problems I have had with stepmania so far. Should I just format FAT32 and go from there or what?

Can you write down the EXACT error message you get? (verbatim please)

I assume you're running Win2k or WinXP? If so, what service pack level?

Code:
Assuming WinXP Try:

start
run
"msconfig" (no quotes)
ok
choose "selective startup"
uncheck "load startup items"
ok
restart
when the computer restarts, in the popup, check the checkbox
hit ok
see if stepmania works properly afterwards

What does that do? Any program that has been set to run automatically, will not be loaded while selective startup is in use. This helps narrow down problems.

I doubt it's NTFS, FAT32, or even graphics card related.

What video card do you have?
Is all your hardware using updated drivers? (video, sound, chipset) Do not assume yes. Check on the manufacturer's website first and compare versions (latest release vs what you have installed).

Start there, maybe we can figure this out.

After day of trying this and that and everything in between I finally ran my norton ativirus. Both my hardrives were filled with a virus called w32 jeefo. I have since formatted and reinstalled everything and it works fine. I will have this harddrive for off line and hook another up for online. Thanks for the help anyways.....Later

That's a bit paranoid don't you think?

Just don't download viruses. Works for me. I do a once a month scan at www.trendmicro.com on both my main machine and my server, no viruses. I just make sure that what I download is safe and I know where it's comming from.

Glad you found the root of your problem though.
