a mod told me to move this, so i am.
Which songs in DDR are more known, preferrably by their difficulty or uniquness in dificulty. like u could go up to a DDR player and say "do u know wat the max songs are?" and theyd probably say yes. but if u said to him "do u know wat electro tuned is?" and they might not know it, or they might not know much about it. there is like 50 some 9 footers, and not everyone can br expected to know them all. So which songs are more known? id say the max songs are DEFINETLY known. they are all ten footers, and they revolutionized the game.

The only reason the Max songs are well known is because they're the hardest songs in the game. We could have a huge debate about the 5 easiest songs in the game, but there'd be less argument about the 5 hardest songs in the game.

As far as which songs are more known, it's the songs that have stood the test of time, especially the one that has the lyrics "I. Don't. WannaGiveUp."

In NorCal, if you hear someone chant "1, 2, 3, 4," before the first arrow comes up, chances are, someone's playing Paranoia.

There's also the ones that have maniac steps that people freestyled to; ie: AM-3P and Brilliant2U Orchestra Groove.

If I were to say what songs are more known...

1. Dynamite Rave
a distant 2. So Deep
3. Max 300
4. Butterfly
T5. Paranoia Rebirth, PSM 290

let me make a note. ive played on extreme my WHOLE DDR life (5 months) is dont know any other old songs older ddr players get nostalagic about.
anyway, heres my list:
1: Maxes
2: Paranoias
3: Sakura
u may notice that these are all ten footers, but these are the ones played at my arcade ALL THE TIME. plus they are known. they all added something to DDR in some way. other popular songs, such as trip machines, so deep, barely get played. i only saw a guy play so deep cuz i wanted him to prove to me he could beat it, and ive only seen a guy play a trip machine once. and he failed it. so id say songs are more known depending on how much theyre played at your local arcade.

Butterfly, Dynamite Rave, Max 300, and End of The Century are probably the most well known (and whored) songs where I usually play.

The songs I'd call "known" are the ones that people of ANY skill level who have played the game with any regularity know as soon as the preview starts. The Maxes and Paranoias fit because people know them, whereas the Trip Machines, sometimes there is confusion. As far as songs on Extreme, I would also say B4U, Dynamite Rave, CSFIL:SM, So Deep, Cartoon Heroes, Sexy Planet Oni (around here it's probably THE most played song there is, ahead of any of those), Cowgirl, Rhythm and Police, Afronova, Dam Dariram, Butterfly goog.gif , R3, HVAM, A, V, and Xenon.

Put simply: it varies by location and arcade. At an arcade with numerous DDR "regulars" the harder songs are likely well known, whereas at an arcade where there aren't many regular players well-known songs would likely include simple ones like Butterfly, Cowgirl, etc.

Are we talking about songs people will know if they've never seen DDR ever, or most commonly played?

Isn't that more of a Trip Machine thing. On the most played list, it's Graduation because little kids tend to select the first song on the list. On the real list (minus mini evil children) it's butterfly and the paranoia's and the max's, like already stated. "Like PSMO, OMG!" laugh.gif

It kind of depends on which generation of mixes you started on... in general, the more "known" songs from the old generations are songs that have resurfaced in 7th and 8th mix.

Recent (7th and 8th Mix): Any of the Max songs, Any of the Paranoia Survivors, other 10 footers like Bag and Sakura.

(The Elusive) 6th Mix: Any hard 9 like HVAM, EE, Orion Civ and So Deep as well as Max 300.

Less Recent (4th and 5th Mix): Rhythm & Police, Matsuri Japan, any cata that resurfaced in 8th, really.

SSR? What's that? (3rd Mix, the start of catas): Also like in 4th and 5th Mix, whatever resurfaced on Extreme -- Dam Dariram, Dynamite Rave, Paranoia Rebirth, Afronova, etc., and the most overplayed non-cata that still has a reputation for bringing the game to life, Butterfly Upswing.

Oldschool 1st and 2nd: Oh em gee, those Trip Machines are so hard... add Butterfly to this list and Have You Never Been Mellow since everyone and their mother who started on third mix and below played these song in their first sets, and you have a pretty comprehensive list.
