Stepmania on XBOX?

I was wondering if it is possible to put stepmania on an XBOX's hardrive. I heard you have to mod it and get another hardrive. Could someone tell me specifically how I would go about putting stepmania on an XBOX and any modifications I would have to make to do so? this will affect my decision on whether to buy an XBOX or not.

yes it is possible for stepmania to be on the xbox and yes it requires moddin. it involves a .xbe file (which i have yet to find) and from there after you install sm to your pc (windows) you take all the files for the game and the xbe and drop them off into a new hdd for the xbox but thats just the general idea of it

-Link Removed- is where you can get Stepmania for XBox. It's completely free and open-source to my knowledge, but yes it does require modding your XBox.

I would like to know how to put stepmania on ps2. I have a fliptop with swapmagic.......

I suppose another possible way to get stepmania on the xbox is to do the Xbox Linux mod, so you can use the xbox as a fully functional PC, and then use a windows emulator for stepmania (unless there is a linux version of stepmania.)

Thanks for the input.... I just started using stepmania a day ago. I have quite the collection of ddr games usa and jap. But I think having them all on the pc plus lots more songs on one hardrive and going from song to song with ease is awesome....long live downloading!!! hehehe

stepmania x works... its just very VERY unstable (if u want to turn off dance play without figuring out the .ini files config PM me and ill send you my .ini

)
just remember: turn of fail alltogether and dont make a song folder with more than i think 300 songs (both of these cause it to crash and bring to the xbox's main menu (evox) as does trying to go into the "controller settings" if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

It, like most other Xbox software, requires XDK libraries to be built, and so it is legal only in source form - in binary form, it is an IP violation. This is the case for pretty much everything that Xport has made.

Also of note - according to Xport's page, there's a new version coming soon, but he's waiting on a more stable release of SM to begin porting.

There are other ways/places to get StepmaniaX, but I can't really help you there. Try The Usual Places.

I am not sure why no one from the XBOX branch of the sm devteam has posted here, but I am from the general branch.

I don't know about putting it on, as I do not own an XBOX myself.

Also, I coded a "ScreenPackages" in StepMania CVS. This allows you to download .smzip files from other places, like your main computer. This makes transfer of songs a lot easier.

As a side note, I was told that SMLAN works with this version of the XBOX build. AND I plan to make sure SMOnline is fully compatible with the XBOX.

putting it on the xbox is very straightforeward:
(depending on the setup of your partitions)
C:(system files)
D:(obvious)
put Stepmania X in this drive -> E: /games/stepmaniaX
or this drive -> F: /Games/stepmaniaX
X:(cache)
Y:(cache)
Z:(cache)

then throw your songs in the songs folder the same way as the pc version,
start it and go do something for a while (let all ALL the songs cache so they load faster next time)
if it crashes take the "log" file out from the stepmaniaX folder to your pc (via FTP) and see what went wrong (at the bottom it usually says what went rong)

After you download it just change the extention to .zip and extract the folder "songs"
