Hi, I must have spent about an hour or so searching through all the topics yesterday, but I couldn't find the answers I was looking for. (I signed up at around 1 am, so I went to bed before the 3 hour time deely was up)

Anyway, I want to buy a DDR bundle for Christmas, consisting of a DDR game for PS2, and 2 pads.

So, my questions are:

1) Which game to buy? Nobody in my family is an expert at DDR, and we won't have the time to play it religiously, so I dont' want anything that's incredibly hard, but at the same time, too easy won't be fun either. =/ Difficutly isn't all, though. I want the game with the "best" overall songs, since that's what it's about, yes? E1.gif

2) About the pads. I can't decided whether to get a flat pad, or the one with foam in the middle. http://www.ddrgame.com says that pretty much the only difference between the foam and no foam ones is that the foam ones are easy on your feet, so you won't get tired as fast. I train Muay Thai barefoot on concrete, so I think I can handle that. E1.gif However, I did notice that all of you agree that RedOctane has the best pads, so I might buy the flat ones from RedOctane + game bundle (no way am I dishing out $200 for this frown.gif). Also, I read that most pads crap out on you after a while. Is that just the shoddy ones, or do they all have a tendency of doing that?

Thanks,

PL

Well, Theres DDR Max, DDR Max 2, and DDR Extreme...I say its gotta be between max and max 2, I say max 2 has more songs ( i could be wrong), Anyways, about the foam and not foam, it depends on where you gonna be playing at, If your gonna be in a room with no carpet you gotta get one of those NONSLIP pads or the IGNITION pads (Ignition is the one with the foam inserted). It also depends on the cash you got, You could get a great deal on ebay on bundles like 2 ignition pads and ddr max 2 for 60 bucks, but yeah i say go with the ignition (foam inserted) or if you dont got the cash go for the nonslip pads, but if your gonna buy a nonslip pad make sure it says it or something like that. Probaly when your better you can go buy a Metal dance pad from Redoctane or maybe the colbalt flux (expensive thing). Anyways i hope this answers your questions.

Yes, thank you.

I was thinking of getting this bundle here: http://www.redoctane.com/extreme2ro2cover.html

I'll be playing on either hard wood or really crappy, almost non-existant carpet.

Or, since you say DDR Max2 is better, I'm thinking of getting this instead:

Or do you think that the DDR Game dance pads might be shoddy?

This is answered in the Console Games forum, specifically in the announcement post titled "READ THIS THREAD BEFORE YOU POST HERE".

DDR Game does not make pads. They only sell them. Keep this in mind when browsing their site - their #1 goal is to sell you the most expensive pad they possibly can.

I suggest that if you're not really sure about this, then you commit the smallest amount of money possible. All softpads die eventually, some more quickly than others. A larger investment now will last you much longer down the road, but a cheap $20 pad will at least give you an idea of whether or not you want to continue down this road.

Ok, I think I'll just get the $80 bundle from ddrgames.com in that case.

It's still possible to fix the pads if they break, right? I've read about some people doing crazy stuff with their pads. @_@

Yeah modding them, for example one of those official konami pads, they put them on a peice of plywood, Staple them or something like that, and put a plastic cover (red octane sells them i think) over them and play like that. I guess they last Way longer that way than normaly. You could try that. Theres a thread about modding your pads somewhere around these boards. Search for the thread here in "benami controllers and hardware" or they can be some where else.
