Yes that will do it, but keep a couple things in mind:
SwapMagic boot discs are tough on the motor
When you replace the cover, the amount of torque you put on the screws will play a big part in how the lens reads the game. for example I have to press down on the lid to get the DVD boot to read, and press down to get DDR EX JP to completely load. If I don't the game doesn't load, the screen stays solid black, and i have to start the process over again.
When I replaced my cover the shiny silverish band that powers the eject and reset switches was in the way of the game and I had to tape it back. It's fine now, but who knows when it will become a problem.
But the good news is that it's really easy to do.
The whole process from finding a small screwdriver to completion took me less than 15 minutes, and I was moving slowly and carefully. |

Hey all, sorry to bother more experienced importers with more stupid questions.
I'm planning on buying a PS2 Fliptop (because I can't solder for shat) in order to play PIU Exceed, and am wondering what is the best and most reliable site to order a fliptop from?
Also, in using Swap Magic, do you have to take the Japanese / import game and burn it onto a CD-R Data disc in order to use it on your PS2? Can I burn PS2 games onto a CD-R disc using a regular old CD Burner on my computer?
Also, if you have purchased a fliptop and are not satisfied with it, please tell me why, or if you're playing imports fine with your fliptop, lemme know.
In short, should I buy a fliptop?
Thanks in advance. |

I got mine at www.ps2fliptop.net and I got it in a week.
No, you *dont* need to burn your game to a CD, but it will play burned games. _________________

I think you're making stuff up. EVERYTHING I've ever read about the slide card has said that it is bad for your PS2 and messes your PS2 up over time. _________________

|
|
I'v heard that the featers of the Matrix Infinity and the DMS4 are almost identicle but the DMS4 doesn't load some ps1 imports. I haven't read anything on Matrix Infinity that says it doesn't load all ps1 imports. has anyone heard of the Matrix Infinity not being able to load some ps media types or if one or the other has just a better sucess rate at loading all ps media. I want to make sure that I will be able to play all my import ps1 ddr games as well as my import ps2 games on my ps2 since my cobalt flux's arn't compatible with any ps1 that I have tried(all buttons auto fire when pressed when two cf's are pluged into the ports) Im going to get a premodded with one or the other so any information or opinions on either of these chips would be a huge help.
Thanks! |

Oops sorry for the stupid question. I haven't checked out the new PS2 so I didn't know it was. I guess that means that all you need are the Swap Magic discs then? |

To clear some things up:
Pushbuttons on fliptops won't work. The magnet on the lid prevents it from working.
Matrix Infinity is probably the best modchip right now. The Crystal Chip(somewhat new)is better, but you'll have to search for a hacked bios file to get it to play backups. _________________

This verison is OUT NOW!!!!
it works with The NEW SLIMPSTWO and with the old PS2!
The all new version 3.3 Swap Magic CD & DVD disc set is now compatible with more game titles and every PS2 unit including the new slimline PSTwo. This item requires the use of a no-solder modchip, fliptop lid or slight modification on new Slim PSTWO. A perfect solution! Just a single swap - even with DVD games.

Hm... since SLIMPSTWO already have a fliptop, so im thinking that all u need is a swap disc 3.3?
Just asking bc idont kno if 3.0 works with slim pstwo or not. |

I'm hoping to mod my ps2 with both a neokey USB modchip (to play playstation 1 games without having to swap and use gameshark) and a fliptop (to play playstation2 backups and imports).
1.) Will this work?
2.) Last time I installed the Neokey on my old PS2, it worked but some small noticeable things happened to my ps2, and now it's dead after about 2 years.
Can someone help point me to extremely specific installation instructions for the neokey? I need to know the following:
Which points I need to connect.
What kind of wire to use, and where to get it.
What kind of soldering iron to use, and where to get it.
Help with the soldering process, apparently it's more complicated than just finding an old piece of wire and slapping it on.
Basically that's it, the main thing i don't get is the actual soldering process, i need tips of what not to do and tips of what to do, and i don't know what flux or tinning copper wire is or any of that.
any help would be appreciated. _________________

in short, get a fliptop...I got mine from ps2fliptop.com and got it in 3 days...Works perfectly for JP extreme(dvd) and 6th mix(cd) with no pressure or modding needed. Occasionally the cd boot disc messes up, but not much....have never had the dvd one mess up. I have heard of ddrparty problems, but I haven't tried it. Others may have it and can offer advice on that game. Otherwise, it's super easy and will let you play backup or original import games. _________________

Like I said in my first post, fliptops are easy for getting right into the games. However DVD9 and append games will not work. There are no cool features. I personally think the fliptop makes your PS2 look ugly having to use 3 different disc depending on the game is a pain.
Modchip and Fliptop both have pros and cons, its all about how serious you are and how much money you have to spend. _________________
