I have a question for anyone who's got an Ignition 2.0. I played on one at Best Buy over the weekend, and overall it's a great pad but there was a problem with it. The arrows seemed like, hyper sensitive or something. I would barely move my foot away from the center, and it would register, mainly on the down arrow. Anyone had a problem like this? It might've just been the fact that they were store demo pads, and people have probably already stomped the bejeezus out of them. I was planning to buy a BNS DX Xtreme, but given the recent news about what's happened to them, I've decided to steer clear of them. Thanks in advance!

The sensors are much bigger on the Ignition pads. This can be both a blessing and a curse. The good news is that, obviously, the arrows are going to be easier to hit. The bad news is that, especially on freeze arrows, sometimes you accidentally are stepping on two arrows with one foot, and that can block out other arrows you might be stomping on. Oh well, you get used to it after a while. And while selecting stuff in menus, just keep your feet in the middle.

Yes i second that...overall it is a very good pad and quite reliable ...if you arre willing to shell out so much cash for one softpad. Just don't stop and you should be fine.......because for some odd reason it get's it's sensors screwed up pretty quickly. It also rips on the surface quite easily if you aren't careful.

zealous's brother here.... thought you all might want to know a little update with the company that is BNS and their pads.

the story was that we get the BNS pad as we heard good reviews about it, and since it was 50 bucks cheaper than my red octane 2.0, we went with it. we got it just like a week later, and it lasts for... oh a couple hours and then starts drifting. so I call up BNS, telling them what happened, and they said they would send out a replacement and send a shipping return lable to us to mail back the defective pad. well... we got the replacement pad, but not the foam, and no shipping return lable.... so we use the new pad, and it's good... for an hour or so... sense a patter? drifting inserts. this is ridiculus that a new pad on light mode onyl lasts like an hour or so before problems. so I contact BNS... telling them the other pad is messed up, and that I didn't recieve the original mailing lable to send the old one back. sooooooooooooooooooo they said fine, they will send out the stuff to have me return both pads and get a full refund. the lable never came, and when I called back, they said that I never requested any lables.... now I'm REALLY starting to get pissed. they say they will send lables out to return the pads but won't refund my money until they get teh pads.... I've since contacted mastercard and have ordered a stop payment. bns doesnt' have the money, and I'm stuck with 2 pads I don't even want. we got my bro a red-octane like mine which works like a dream. but we STILL have not recieved any shipping lables, and BNS says they sent them out weeks ago. it's not been over a month and I still haven't recieved my refund cause they won't send me the labels!!!!!

moral of story? YOU WILL BE RIPPED IF YOU BUY FROM BNS.

I had a RO Ignition 2.0 that I bought from Gamestop for 100 bucks (bad idea). I had....had....had a RO pad. After 2 months, I noticed there were a few small tears on the vinyl surface, but I just fixed that up with duct tape. However, the tape stuck to my sox and feet and it peeled a lot cause I slide my feet somewhat. Anyways, near the end of this two-month period, I noticed that my left arrow lost its sensitivity, as did my down arrow. Those very thin raised-arrow inserts because mishapened somewhat, to the point where I think it was pressing down on the conducting strips of metal paint. Eventually, the left arrow and down arrow stopped working. I took it apart and noticed the celophane (sp?, sorry I'm real tired) that had the magnetic paint strips on it had been crinkled and torn a little, which completely disconnected the magnetic paint. It wasn't a very good pad if you ask me. Now, my friend ordered two levelsix (www.levelsix.com) pads (v 3.1). They feel a lot sturdier than RO pads, and they have lasted him longer so far. I suggest Levelsix over both. Levelsix pads are 43.95!

Well if you bought if from Gamestop, can't you return it since it's defective. Why is buying from Gamestop/EBGames a bad idea?

no no, I meant the 100 bucks, seeing that I could get an equal/better levelsix pad for 43. And, no, I can't return it after 2 months. Doesn't matter now, since I tore it open. Curiosity killed my pad I guess...

You can take out the foam and put in a piece of plywood, see the RyChan Mod. =P

Where exactly is the RyChan mod posted? Can't seem to find it, and almost all the links in the stickies to the other mods are broken disgust.gif

And outside of RyChan mod...what are some other alternatives as far as modding/preserving Ignition style pads go?

Search for the user RyChan. It should be in her signature.

sorry if this has been asked before but...

I'm thinking about getting a Redoctane 2.0 pad. If you buy if from the website or from Best Buy do you have an option of getting some kind of warrenty? From what it looks like the pad is fairly unreliable, so i dont want to make that investment without having a warrenty or something.

I believe the store itself does have a warranty. Also, if I recall correctly manufacturers usually give you a warranty as well to be free of defects, etc. Therefore, one would assume that if you buy it off RedOctane's site which is direct from the manufacturer that they would.

In other words; Yes, to both questions.

Does this particular pad happen to slip'n' slide around while playing heavy songs like the cheaper soft pads do? Just curious whether or not I will have to mod mine when I get one.

i'd also like an answer to that question, but how would you mod the pad?

For anyone who's got any questions about how the RedOctane Ignition feels or performs, check your local Best Buy. Recently, they've been setting up demo stations with DDR Extreme and a RedOctane Ignition 2.0 and some piece of junk 3rd party pad. For those wondering about slipping and sliding, there is some. On anything 6 feet and below, it's pretty solid, but on certain 7 and 8 foot songs I started noticing problems. For what it's worth, it was set up on carpet, which isn't the best surface for a DDR pad.

This is my mod on my pad (and it works)

I use Craft foam (1/8" craft foam which you could buy at a dollar store) and put them right between the pad and the dense foam. Then I tape it together to keep it in that place. What this does that it greately decreases the friction generated from play on the actual pad by having the craft foam taking the wear instead of the pad.

I have a BNS pad for about 2 months and it's still working fine with this mod. My soft pad lasted over a year with this mod as well.

IMO, this is the most cheapest pre-mod you could do to a soft pad which has lasting benefits. For me, it only costed about $2.00 for the foam and tape. (o, duct tape solves everything)

if anyone's bns ignition pad is suffering from missed steps and poor registry, i can write up some guide on how to take your pad apart and replace the awful foam that the factory put in, i posted picture of that earlier in this thread

its only been a day since i finished it, so far so good, i just had to get used to the totally different timing system that ddr usa uses (lost max usa)

If I never had a warranty for my RO I would be steaming mad, because it was torn to peices, lol. And the down arrow gives me millions of quick hits every time I touch it. Maybe because I play 9 and 10s the whole time? But it is like...torn to shreds. E10.gif All the arrows still work fine except for the down arrow. And I got mine at EB games, they have warrantys there (A year for 15 dollars)
