I can sprint in a short distance, but not for long.
My stamina is still the same in running even though I play DDR for a long period of time.
Maybe that's why my legs die out on me during heavy songs... |

Well, DDR and running are two completely different things, and DDR puts more strain on different muscules than running. In fact, DDR doesn't have too much to do with your overall speed whatsoever, but more of reflexes.
I used to run track...in fact, I was a state championship sprinter (for teh state of MD BAYBEE. Well, I was untill I got my bone cysts, and finally had to hang up track ) And I know first hand that DDR WILL NOT improve your running speed. In fact, it isn't like running whatsoever either.
DDR is something else. When you run, you'll notice that your legs and knees are at a constant slant, putting more pressure onto your calves. Combined with the constant pounding of the ground, the force you exert forward with your quads, (the force is exerted by the rapid compression and decompression of the quad and hamstring every time you walk/step/run) and the arc of your foot and ankle when in mid step/bound, running puts you in a whole different position than your DDR position. Therefore, sure, you may work your legs when you play DDR, but it only works the parts of your legs that you use for DDR, NOT for running. DDR is not a subsistute for the exercise you get for running. But, it's a fine way to work out your legs for the use of...more DDR.
Though, I agree with the fact that it can boost your stamina. My mile time has improved signifigantly (yeah, compare 7:03 to 5:53 the year after that) but, it will not improve your speed (My 40 yard dash time is 4.32, and it's stayed there. DDR hasn't done a thing for it ) The only way to become better at running is to run more! You can just give yourself a little bit more stamina through DDR.
But...i'll let you guys in on a little secret. Running really blows compared to DDR. And I bet most of you aren't on this board to become better runners...so, keep working yourself.
You just can't expect DDR to make you a faster person. It will make you lighter, it just might possibly make you a little bit more agile, and it'll work your reflexes, but it won't make you a better runner. _________________

Nope. Never could run very well, and I still can't.
My friends tell me I should get the best time on the mile run in school because of my DDR, but it just never works that way.
I guess I need something controlling my mind. _________________

DDR would just increase stamina and endurance, really. I doubt it would make you faster.
Now, if you ran track, and played DDR, you'd probably do better in DDR. |

This is seriously my thread. Before, I was one of those guys you laugh at. You know, uber-winded and in some serious pain just by the warm-ups in PE. After whoring DDR for about 3 months, I was able to keep up with some of the faster kids in the class. It really surprised a lot of people, because I had used to be their easiest target for jokes.
I seroiusly contribute this all to DDR. Of course, I also used to die after doing Tsugaru. Now I can do any 9-footer 3 or 4 times in a row before feeling winded or pain in the legs. _________________

It -can- increase your speed slightly, but the usual affect is just to let you run for longer. I know it hasn't affected my overall sprinting (I was already naturally really fast), but it has helped my mile running a great deal. |

Well to all of you saying it can't increase running speed, it has indefinitely increased mine. I have no clue why it didn't do the same for you guys. _________________
