all the really good ddr players i know are all short...like under 5'7". i'm 6'3" and been playing for about 2 months now. i'm ok (can past a few 9 footers like breakdown) but i can't achieve the kind movement required for some of the other 9 and 10 footers. i'm just wondering if height really does affect ddr performance, and if there are any really good tall ddr players here.

Forget about that kind of logic. Your abilities to play are in your skills, and not your height. For starters, tall people with long legs have an obvious advatage and they could move their feet around with not much effort. Plus tall people have big feet which they could step on 2 arrows with not much movement.
Short people with stubby legs have to move their legs alot more due to the length of their legs.
So in conclusion being short doesn't give you any kind of advatage.

Im 6 feet and I dont think it changes anything...

I mean kids who are 5'4'' have muscle mass for moving around the certain weight they have and so do people who are 6'3''

i think it just depends on what kind of shape your in...if you work out a lot you will probably (not always) be better than someone who sits around and eats potatoe chips all day...and also it depends on how good you are at DDR....

I think tall people have a harder time raping the bar because they'd have to crouch in order to do it.

So that's why I think shorter people have an easier time playing this game.

Completely wrong. The amount of effort it takes to move your legs is related to their mass more than the inverse of their length. Having shorter legs (down to the point where you can still hit the arrows without strain) means not only do you have less mass to move, but you have the mechanical advantage of having your legs at a greater angle apart.
Ever wonder why all world class runners aren't seven feet tall. When you do the math, it actually makes a very small difference for activities like running (although DDR has a lot more complex leg motions that benefit from having more slender, shorter legs--to a point).

This is actually true in some cases. It depends on the play style really. It's hard to play flat-footed though, when your foot is larger than the arrows.

The DDR pad is actually designed for the average Japanese person (about 5'6" to play on, so of course it's optimized for a slightly shorter person. The motions are also less awkward when you're shorter. I'm 6'1" and I tend to tangle my legs up on some of the harder crossovers and such (and crossovers are a Little doggy (One Two!) when your have to time them to hit with your toe.

All the really good people I know, including myself, are pretty tall. I mean, I am 5'11" and a lot of the people I know are taller than me, and can dance circles around me, so I do'n't think height has anything to do with it. Rotational mechanics, maybe. But not height.

I, myself am 5'8", and I think that taller people can an advantage, not too tall though. I think people around 5'10"ish have an advantage over the rest.. because the length of their legs.. and ability to use the bar..

Those are just my thoughts though..

I sorta had a hard time doing So Deep while bar raping it..

see i dont know, im 5'1" and for me its a stretch reaching the bar, so i barely ever touch the thing. if your short and holding on to the bar, its a longer distance for your legs to be so it's kind of awkward.

That's another reason why I don't bar hug or rape.

I don't find height a problem...I am also short...but I still find ways around.

My opinion is that if you're too short, it takes more effort to move around the pad, but if you're too tall, you've got a lot more body to have to move around the pad, which is also a disadvantage. Somewhere around 5'9" to 5'11" seems optimal; but if you're passing 9 footers after just a couple months, I don't think you have anything to worry about, regardless of your height.

I'll agree to that. You shorter people have to well... spread your legs more, proportionally.

I think its harder for taller people. I dont know why. I'm pretty short (5'3") and i kno alot of guys that play that are like around 6feet and they sometimes have a hard time doing harder songs...

theres this guy i know hes in 5th grade hes passed all maxes, sakura, etc. he moves like hes not even trying. i guess he doesnt move much to save energy. and those pads dont take much to hit. sometimes i barely tap it and i get the note

it had affect my gameplay before(take me more time to reach the 5-6 footers songs(now a 7-8 footer(i'm proud of this^^))),now it's ok,all u have to do is to devlop your stream and speed by doing fast songs like max 300 and just to catch the beat^^

<--- = 6'2, and I don't seem to have a hard time. I could imagine short people having a hard-core disadvantage doing doubles, and tall people having a big advantage. Le stubby legs cant reach to the otehr pad fast enough :'(.

1) This topic belongs in Gameplay
2) Height equating to skill is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
