EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) gave DDR Extreme a pretty good review, but should it have received better? The average came to be about 7.5 out of 10. Its biggest complaint was that there was still mostly "house-pumpin' techno" and not more variety. What do you think?

Their score sounds reasonable, but their "biggest complaint" seems pretty ignorant.

Huh? 7.5 out of 10? I have the most November 2004 issue of EGM sitting here with the review of DDREX right here, and according to this it got 8.5, 8.0, and 8.5. The pluses they generally list are the variety of play modes, inclusion of some songs from the 80s that will help new players get into it, while the minuses are mainly personal, one reviewer couldn't find many songs she liked, and another reviewer had a problem with the Workout Mode not functioning properly with some modes.

There's also a really weird quote in the review about how DDREX has "enough difficult bits (1/64th beats? Arrrrgh) to please any satin-jacketed arcade performer." "Satin-jacketed?" =\

They don't give good reviews as we want them to beacause there not obssesed. O and the average of the scores was 8.5- (8.5 + 8.0 + 8.0= 25 divided by 3= 8.3333333 rounded to 8.5)

having owned every ddr home game made so far (minus dancing stage feat dreams come true and true kiss destination), extreme usa is one of the worst games i have. its painfully mediocre, and has a terrible interface. songs are ok, but the jap release of extreme was so godly, that the us release just looks like crap. compared to the other us releases though, i thought max2 was much better. more thoughts in my lj. i would have given it a 6/10.

A 7.5 for Extreme US seems right. It did not match up to previous versions.

Be realistic, guys--Konami is never going to include all the songs it had in the japanese releases because then the game wouldnt sell any copies. The only people who'd buy the game would be purists--if you were a new player to DDR, would you rather buy a game with licensed US music you like or licensed JPOP that you've never heard of?

Extreme US is my favorite DDR game. It does have it's flaws, but it's still awesome.

I don't know man, when I bought MAX 1 the only song I knew was Sandstorm, and that one song they play in Saving Silverman, and the DDR background had like 3 ants or something but I can't think of the song, it think it's I like to move it move it or something. And that game was awesome.

MAX2, I knew get busy child and the one from the car commercial and the Bryan Adams song done by that one chick (Canada already appoligized from Bryan Adams!) but by that time I knew more about ddr.

How about I don't care what EGM or what any source gives what rating to DDR because they're not THAT much of a fan as we are because we know the true value of the game's high points and low points, not them.

I dunno about anyone else, but I can see all the new stuff Konami put in Extreme US, and for some reason a lot of it just doesn't appeal to me. I can't really put my finger on why. All I know is I was playing a fully unlocked copy at Fry's Electronics and overall the songlist just didn't seem that appealing to me. I do have to give Konami props for including Junior Senior's Move Your Feet. Your Rain and You're Not Here are really good, too, and I'm actually trying to find Silent Hill OSTs because I liked them so much. But otherwise, I got bored with the game rather quickly, while I would still play Max 1 US if I still had a pad.

And for the record, I thought Max1 US rocked, and thought Max2 US was pretty cool, too.

Agreed. I was so excited about getting Extreme, I was with my friends when I picked it up from EB Games. Since we all wanted to try it we took it back to my friends house to try it out and I said "This is crap!". There are mabye 3, 4 songs I like on Extreme + what was with the song selection menu and chracters?
