i'm looking for these too. probably not the same design....but the same idea nonetheless. anyway i think someone posted a site with the different parts of the arrow graphics a few pages back. just keep searching through. it shouldn't be too far behind....maybe 3 or 4 pages. |

the little base thing looks like this.
or something. if you want it hidden, thats your problem.
im not exactly sure what to make the flashing/backsplash/thingtokeepitfromfallingover item out of, but ddrgame.com has "handlebar supports" that look like they would do fine. or you could get the real thing from channelbeat.com (or steal one). they also have the cushion that you may want. you have to buy two though. |
wow. if i knew about that store, i would have bought from there a long time ago. thanks for the link man.
i have seen bar mounts like that, but i think they are only made to support verticle stress. if someone were to lean backwards, it would probably break. _________________

you mean the "handlebar" things? they stick oot the back about a foot or so, so if you leaned back on the bar, they would prevent you from falling over, to a point. and i dont know how to mount them to the bars to keep them from sliding up and down, you may have to weld them or drill holes to bolt them on. and theyre made of the same material as the bar they put on their pads, so they probably wont break.
and if they do, have a friend jack you in the lip so it looks like you hurt yourself and sue ddrgame.com for personal damages. then buy a real arcade console. _________________

Meh, it seems to get the job done. For those on a lower budget, this seems to be a nice alternative. |

for those on extremely low budgets like 40-60 dollars and want to get good pads, i recommend either waiting a while until their budget increases or buy a soft pad. ddr isn't that expensive of a game but you will need more than 50 dollars for a reliable pad. for 50 bucks i think a BNS dx-ultra ignition pad is the best you can get other than buidling ulala's design. i think that even though looks may not be that important to you, they are to a lot of others. |

I'd like to point out that that wasn't my design, it was Caltrops'. Also, I'm one of those that do care about looks, I'll post pictures soon. |

That's the adjective I usually use to describe the pad. :) My panels are somewhat similar to ddrhomepad's, but with more foam. Basically, the base contains strips of connected chicken wire(stapled down) seperated by full strips of foam tape insulation. This side is wired to current. A piece of sheet metal on the top panel is wired to ground. If I were to do this again, I would have put more time and better materials into it. Still, it's better than almost any commercial pad I could have purchased. Why? I can fix it easily. Maybe I'll be motivated to improve the appearance as well someday. For those interested, this pad is just over 1".
# - chicken wire
^ - foam
######
^^^^^^
######
^^^^^^
Materials
1) roll of stainless flashing
2) 2 4x4 sheets of hardboard
3) 1x2s
4) roll of chicken wire
5) circuit from soft pad
6) 3/4" ply
6) screw plate
7) fender washers
8) telephore wire
9) duct tape |

some types of phone wire have six strands, but you'll need seven, one for the ground. cat5 cable would probably be best, though. it has 8 strands, and you can get it anywhere. _________________

bad idea. at least for soldering. any wire you intend to solder MUST be multistranded for one big reason: single strand wires are malleable and tend to hold their position. this sounds like a good thing, but it is not. if you solder a hard wire to a circuit, and you move any part of that wire around, the contact will probably break, possibly ruining the circuit board. this is because single strand wires are more resistant to bending, so they will break before they bend. multistrand wires are made of twisted filaments, much like a piece of string. they are limp and free bending, so they take more abuse. also, solder tends to stick to them much easier. _________________

I didn't intend to imply that I used a phone jack connector for anything. I merely took a long phone cord, ripped off the outer insulation, and cut it into shorter segments. It's a cheap source of wire that you probably already have a surplus of. Also, listen to mtweig. He is wise beyond his years....or something. Now, if I could just program my pad to A TLOM... |

Or you could just buy some stranded wires from Radio Shack. If you don't want to buy different colors then you can use letter stickers or tab labels to mark the ends differently. _________________
