I just started getting into DDR, but I noticed there are ALOT of versions in the arcade and console arena. What happens when you practice a few of your favorite songs and on the next mix, your favorite songs are gone?! I mean, why can't they make a DDR Machien that has the old songs and keeps adding new ones as well?! It's not like they take up THAT MUCH memory.

Because a lot of the songs in DDR are licenced (not made by Konami), and they have to pay money to the artists or their company to get the music in the game, and they would have to pay for those songs mix after mix. If you miss the old songs you either need to tough it out, find a machine with an older mix, get the home version with those songs on it, or get DWI or Stepmania.

Well ok, even the ones that are mixed by Konami, how come they don't appear in every version?

But thanks for clearing up the licensing part about not being able to get those songs over and over.

Because if they put out a mix that had every song that was ever on DDR, you would have no reason to buy the previous mixes, and so they'd be harming their own business.

Not exactly, if they kept their finger on the pulse of Europe, Asia, and America's dance circuits, they could keep putting on more songs every new version there after. Sure you'ld have all the previous songs from the older games but hell... What if they started getting people to sign on songs from the year it was actually made rather then pulling songs from 3+ years prior to the new version being made?

And this is what I don't understand, why would they have to pay for licensing there songs?! Everytime someone plays DDR it's like their getting free air play. Radio's get payed to play other music, why isn't it the same for DDR machines!?

Because there were only 7 before Extreme right? Let's not forget the two 2nd mix appends, Disney's Rave, Oha Sta, True Kiss Destination, Extra Mix and any of the other ones I'm forgetting at this point in time...

or if you strictly speaking of arcade versions: Solo Bass, 5 different versions of 3rd mix, 4th +, Kid's, Karaoke (1 and 2), Solo 2000 so forth and so on...

Either way I think I made my point.

Well, I'm pretty happy with the versions and their song selection. Extreme has so much anyway. There are songs that aren't on there, but some of them did suck. E15.gif Imagine a mix that had all songs...wow...$5.00 for 2 songs...

Extreme is the "8th mix" but is not called DDR 8th mix Extreme so in a year or 2 Konami may make a new mix called 8th mix. I just think thats cool.

Any way to the point sorry riiight.gif .
I like to go play in other towns do to the fact that there mix has some songs I can't play every day.
So to me if every mix had every song DDR over all would be less fun.
Any one eles know what I'm say'n?

I agree. Learning CSFIL:SM was more fun because I didn't have it at home, and I had to sort of "sight read for my life" when I was in the arcade. That's fun.

True, if every DDR had all the songs from the previous ones, would anyone try anything new? I mean, we'd all just be doing the old favorites over and over. I mean, not that we do'n't already do that, but I think it'd be more common with all songs available.
