Heh, you and almost anyone I know. Everyone I've showed it to said that they wouldn't have believed they were drumsticks if I didn't show them the drum first. I took it with me to the comic shop I work at today...heh, I wish I had a camera on me so I could show you a few of the faces of the people when they first saw me take the drumsticks out of my backpack. Priceless.

The great thing about this series it's been out for about two years, so it shouldn't be long before a sequel comes out.

I found no problems with hitting the sides, the key to remeber is it isn't the actual side but more where it's rounded over (if that makes sense?)

I also agree don't be afraid to wail away or you'll miss simple notes.

The redoctane drum comes out on november 4th, so it will be intresting to see if it registers better then the namco drum.

And how are you supposed to unlock the movies? I have almost all of the songs passed on the highest difficulty and still don't have any movies.

You need to pass all the songs on a single difficulty. If you can't do it on the hardest one, try passing all of them on a lower difficulty.

I love the classical music tracks in this game, and wish there were more. The game could have definitely used more songs or features, but it's really not bad for a first version, especially if you compare this to something like DDR USA for PS1. The tutorial is so cheesy, it's good! I would have also liked to see them import some of the songs from the Japanese version. If the opening movie can be in Japanese, why not some of the playable songs?!

I totally agree with davidbrit2 that Taiko March just simply rocks! That just totally filled a void that was missing for me in DrumMania. It's an understandable void since marching music on DrumMania's drum set would just be plain silly, but it works perfectly fine for me on a taiko drum!

I played a demo of it at target. No drums so I had to use a PS2 controller.

I just snagged this tonight and my shop had a few copies with the drum to go around so hopefully my friends pick it up with that said I can't wait to get into this, I've known a few people now that did import it and have loved it as an import so I can't wait to get knee deep into myself.

*off to beginner Taiko 101*

This game would be totally boring on a PS2 controller. Half the fun is high sticking and striking the drum. If you really want to get into it, you'd also add choreography and vocals. laugh.gif Find a place that has the drum hooked up, or just buy the game!

Toys R Us has Taiko Drum master with drums, Donkey Konga with drums, DDR with pads, and Kareoke Rev. With mic. At least the ones in Kansas City do.

Picked up another drum today from EB, the redoctane drum.

The first thing I have to say is that the drum registers hits a lot better then the namco drum. I tested this on all four difficulties. The sticks seem a little lighter and the start and select buttons have been moved.

i recommend this drum for all taiko players.

hehe... i got the game yesterday after i auditoned for laguardia (yeah, i'm an actor, sue me happy.gif).

Hehe, i don't think i've pissed off my parents more then that night. My dad would be watching law and order (a very good NY mystery show...)

Boom
"She was murdered"
Boom-tap
"Can we ask you a few questions?"
Boom-boom
"Objection"
Click-Boom

I loved the theme song.

"Even though i was scolded for washing my hands...."

After I acquired a Playstation 2 that I won as a part of boosting morale for troops in Iraq, I felt compelled to getting these sorts of 'Physical' games.

After buying DDR Extreme, I bought this game 2 days later since I have an inadvertant passion for just finger-drumming a song, and the want to play something that resembles a drum/something to beat the crap out of.

The game came in a much nicer box set than DDR Extreme did. I was surprised by the drum display. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of Mambo A Go Go, in reference to having a few drums to work with, but having the whole set up like a DDR floor pad that one would beat into submission.

I'm glad I was wrong.

The drum feels sturdy. The stand helps out a LOT, I originally tried playing it flat and that was pretty much the epitome of ass. But moving onward.
I was also surprised that the actual drumsticks felt sturdy too. Given, I would rather use something longer (I would like to spin them around while theres a break in the song, that's just me being an idiot).
The drumsticks also have a vague resemblance of something you would see in a porno flick, makes the game a bit more interesting to look at.

And for those curious, my last two sentences were completely coincidential.

The thing that gets to me is that the songlist is pretty....smalll and dull. I think the only song I have attached myself to is the Dragon Ball Z Theme. and that's only because it's probably the most aggressive song I can find in the whole mix. The classical music is a nice break from some of the stuff like 'I'm a Believer' and 'Toxic'.

Also, it's a game that is HEAVILLY enriched in Japanese humor and culture (unlike the aforementioned DDR EXTREME). Which means that if you would have some of your drinking buddies over, they may not appreciate the off the wall and colorful display of things the game has to present.

I have only played the game for a couple days now, I haven't explored the whole 'world' of the game. But I have tried the mini games and the dog-stacking game is kicking my ass HORRIBLY. I don't know if I suck that much or what, but I can't do good on it at all or it might be the drum. Which transitions perfectly into the next topic.

The drum feels sturdy, but I found out quickly that a bar in the middle restricts where you hit, which seems nonsensical, seeing as that the game is indiscriminatory as to where you hit the drum. If you see a red circle, you hit wherever registers a red.
Same goes for blue, except the blue portion comes into play when you're cycling throgh menus and such, so that's understandable. The red has no excuse.

In conclusion, if you love games that are heavilly enriched in the Japanese culture. or you want to beat the crap out of something when you're listening to a song you know a bit of.
Then I would recommend this game to the psycho that would fit one of the 2 or both of the criteria above.

Kid tested. Beck. Approved.

The bar in the middle is incredibly annoying and very pointless. It's there to seperate the left and right side of the drum, but did they really need to slap a BAR in there to do so? It's completely possible to do so without a bar...

I think the game was pretty good for a US release. I was glad to see Brave Sword BRaver Soul (is that the name?) from SCII, because i had played that on in japan but never actually found it on the home version ;_; Now i have 3 drums cuz i already bought 2 in japan lol. Btw Oni mode makes some of these songs REALLY hard. TOo bad none of the hard songs are US music frown.gif

Question for all of you: Was your Taiko disc a blue disc?

Reason for it is that I just bought it, took it out and then proceeded to find out it was a blue disc. Several DREs later and it still won't work E12.gif
