Man, some of these descriptions of bar-raping are just plain hillarious!
Personally, I've really only seen one instance of true bar-raping. It was last week and this guy was playing Paranoia Survivor. I didn't see which song he picked at first, but when I saw him lean back with all of his weight on the bar, I knew something was up. Dude must have had at least 75% of his weight back on that bar and his feet were just flying... simply crazy to watch something like that! He ended up with a B on it and said he could do better but started to cramp up during the song.
My question for you experts out there is: Can anyone do a song like that without bar-raping? I just don't see how it's possible, but I'm sure I could be wrong. _________________

Well it doesn't really matter. People do it anyway. I mean, it's not really hanging on or leaning on the bar that much. It's just putting your hands on it. I guess its like a "helper" or something. Use it all the time. Don't really find it a big deal. |

Personaly I dont use the bar. I see it as more of a safety bar incase you fall. But, this is comming from a beguinner of DDR. _________________

i learned up to 10 footers on home version so its really not necessary for me to use the bar, but it helps alot when you need enrgy or extra stamina, even though it feels real weird at times.
anyhow i dont mind if any noob is using the bar on light songs or whatever, becuase the game is about having fun, sure you wanna be uber at it and be able to pass lom, max 300 and look good, but i say if any newb wants to use bar or anyone for tha matter wants to use the bar they should, there not doing anything wrong, and there just trying to have fun playing this game which we all are. _________________

i agree, general people dont care if you use speed mods or the bar or whatnot, it dosnt look any easier to them lol. I wouldnt use it if a bunch of players are around, I try not to anyway but like you said, I do it for fun just to see the best i can do _________________

I've only used the bar for Max 300, and half of So Deep (when I was tiring out by halfway in the song) and Witch Doctor.
I don't have to do it anymore with So Deep and Witch Doctor, and I can pass most, if not all, 9s without touching it. Only with Max 300 and any other 10 besides bag and Sakura, for now.
I don't mind if someone uses the bar on a hard, respectable song, but if you're holding onto the bar or using it for support for light, that's just weird. _________________

Okay honestly i don't see the problem with the bar when used moderately. I think it actually helps when used not too much. When i first started max300 hvy, i kept losing stamina near the middle. Then, i used the bar to take some weight off my legs. Finally i passed it. After that, i didnt have to use the bar anymore b/c i built enough stamina. I mean, playing at arcade is still like practicing, do whatever you gotta do to help your game... but at tournaments or watever, then its different (if they look for that) _________________

I don't use the bar, have never used the bar, and I've passed every song on Extreme except PSM:O (and even that's about to change!). When I started playing in the arcade, I never even considered using the bar to play, and the first time I saw a bar raper, I thought it looked so ridiculous that I vowed never to do it. If I'm about to fall over from doing a crazy spin or something, I'll grab the bar reflexively, right myself, let go, and continue playing. _________________

Well, I play at home a lot more than at the arcade, so I have been programmed into not using the bar. It actually feels really unnatural to do so. And it's a lot less rewarding when you know you just used a major handicap item to successfully complete a song. And I've found some very innovative things to do with my arms while dancing. Situationally changes with songs. _________________

I remember when I saw everyone else using the bar.. and I had never.
Then I tried it once and it threw me off pretty badly. I lost balance, and found it really inconvenient. So,yeah, I try not to do that so much. |

I've seen a PA video where the player AAAs LoM on heavy without any sudden movements. He just kind of stands in the middle of the pad, he never shifts his center of balance one centimeter, and he alternates his feet very well. The same player also did the same for PSMO although he didn't earn a AAA grade. I think even Max. (period) can be cleared with grace although that might require some memorization on the last part and the balance of a professional gymnast.

I think they mean that people who are so unhealthy that they are intimidated by a flight of stairs should not play DDR. Those people should begin to increase their heart rate by taking several trips to and from the couch without pausing to rest. Then once they can get their pulse above 90 BPM without fainting only then should they consider light mode.
Konami also warns us that placing DDR machines in residential areas will ruin television reception. I think they meant to say "commercial", not "industrial", in that warning. Also notice that we're not supposed to play DDR drunk or in high heels. Oh, and we're officially not supposed to stomp or do a matrix walk either. |

And yet the ads show cartoon characters wearing platform shoes, heels, boots, etc. And WOW do I see kids stomp! No wonder the machine at the local arcade is dying on the front arrow. Can't wait to try out the machine a friend told me about in another arcade.
I read about the Matrix walk. I think someone who was extremely drunk (another instructions no no) came up with that move. Who the heck would DO that to a glass screen???? No wonder they moved the metal dance pad so far away from the game! _________________
