As far as Konami suing the makers of ITG, I'm sure it will happen if it ever picks up any momentum. They were pretty quick to quash Andamiro when Pump it Up was released, after all. However, if you want to talk about copyrights, trademark and patent infringement, and other legal issues, take it out of this thread. Kthx. | You guys are so controlling. In ITG news, I still need to pass Delerium. I can AA it on StepMania and hopefully reading the arrows on there will help me on the real thing. xD _________________

It's not illegal, although most mixes of DDR are (in the US).
A major purpose of several features of ITG, such as hallway being default even though I think everyone uses overhead, was to give the game enough legal variance from DDR (actually from PIU which holds the patent in the US on Dancing Games) to make it a legal product. _________________

ITG is ENTIRELY legal. Though they are using the stepmania engine, which basically copies DDR, they have made sure that everything that has to do with DDR does not void copyright. For instance, the default way how the arrows moved up the screen was copyrighted, so Roxor just replaced that default with 'hallway', and put the regular scroll in the options as 'overhead'. They've also gotten around the dance stage copyrights, which AFAIK are owned by Andamiro. And obviously, they've paid the artists for every song that is in the game; so yes, it's legal.
EDIT: I didn't see Kiba's post, he mentioned everything I did. _________________

I've been told that the ITG crew managed to license every song they have on there. Although this could be true, I honestly doubt they did. Not to mention they are putting ITG in DDR cabinets, which also probably has some legal issues. |

Oh, don't worry. Every song that appears in In The Groove was either developed in-house or has been properly licensed. Still want to double-check? Get in touch with Machinae Supremacy, Nina, or Digital Explosion and ask them! Or contact Natalie Browne's label or get ahold of KaW and DJ Zombie.
The legal questions are an old topic, one that has been gone over many times. Roxor Games assures that the In The Groove project is completely and entirely legal. If you have any serious inquiries concerning the legality of the game or other business related concerns, you can contact Jason Asbahr at [email protected].
With that out of the way, I very much agree with rampage's suggestion to stick to other topics. I for one am glad to hear rumours that the game is going to be arriving in the Chicagoland area soon.
And another unlock is not far off... |

I don't see what all this crap about is this game legal about... as far as I'm concerned once an arcade machine is purchased... what you put in it is your business! lol... anyhow there are plenty of bootleg DDRs and what not going around in the USA so who cares? So long as people have fun with the game... but I doubt ITG is as easy to pirate as DDR. |

I *so* want to say something about the strict (censored so that he wouldn't "flame") mods here...but It'll prolly end in my being banned...being banned is no fun...(even if what leads to it is way fun) |

It depends, that would be the case, however there are roughly 100 kits or so that have at least been shipped out, but only 15-20 verified locations so far. Apparently a bunch of arcade owners didn't want to report that they had it, for whatever reason. _________________

So what if the music is American, stop being so Wapanese and get out of your "OMG IT'S JAPANESE IT'S BETTER" just because it is Japanese does not mean it's better. Hell, the Japanese were surpassed by both Columbians and North Americans alike at DDR anyway, that argument does not have much relevance. Also, the legality of it has been settled, they would not sell a $2100 kit if it was illegal.
Also, the songs rock. The music is much better than DDR and it doesn't have that stupid happy shit I hear in every single fucking DDR game like Freckles or Can't Stop Falling In Love or Memories or other generic trash like that. All you people still orgasming over Extreme need to broaden your horizons and get more open minded because not only are the steps, both hard AND expert better and a lot more fun than ddr's heavy/challenge steps, there's a lot of features and types of music you won't find in DDR. Let me repeat what I said, the hard steps are a lot more fun than DDR's heavy steps. Yeah so what if it's not DDDRRRRR and doesn't have your fucking old songs that have been played out to hell and are boring. The same old ass 8 footer songs only go for so long and ITG is going to keep making mixes with NEW songs that DON'T get old because it's AMERICAN. I don't think you people realize how much of a difference this is to the game's productivity and future. Why do you think PIU can even keep going like it does? Because it has an American branch. It being American means they CATER to the DDR player. Unfortunately you people are being closeminded pricks about everything, not giving it a real chance. I don't care if you played it for 30 minutes or once or whatever, you're still being closeminded because it doesn't have some stupid DDR song you like on there. Mines are fine, you just have to get used to them like you did with freeze arrows. When DN2k5 (old name for it) comes out you're probably going to diss on that too even though the music on it rocks. As for freestyling, the music is a lot more of music you could actually dance to OUTSIDE OF THE GAME, and well the steps just determine how you freestyle (i.e. look at PIU, the freestyle charts are made for people to do actual choreographed routines to them)
DDR is not going anywhere, so ITG is the closest thing you'll get to a new DDR. Extreme has been out for TWO YEARS. Give something else a chance for crying out loud.
ps warning points lol

You mean "have been ordered." That doesn't mean that they've all been shipped out by any means.
I mean, ours was supposed to ship a long time ago, and still hasn't arrived... _________________

I'll admit, i went up to play ITG at Illusionz (the first test site) a long time ago, and at that point, I really wasn't a fan of the game. I was still very much enthralled with DDR, and ITG just didn't seem that good. I went up to Narrows and played it in mid September, and I totally fell in love with it. Sure they don't have eurobeat or whatever..honestly, who cares. If you want it, ask for it and the ITG team will maybe get some (besides, I'd listen to Mellow over ANY eurobeat song, and i'm a pretty big eurobeat fan). I'm sure alot of people aren't bored with DDR yet, and that's fine, but once you are bored, you'll find ITG to be a nice refreshing challenge. Even if you don't want to play the 12s and the 13s, you can make it harder for yourself by playing on boomerang flip decel dizzy fade in Also, if it hasn't already been mentioned, high scores for each song are listed, and the usb memory card system (when it works ITG is still buggy because it's a new product, so have patience) is SOOOOO much better then DDR's laughable system. I would not have pitched in a good chunk of money with a couple of friends of mine to buy a machine and a BoXoR if i didn't think ITG was a really high quality product worth my time. _________________

I haven't played ITG but I agree with your opinion on the music... there are lots of good Japanese songs... most of them aren't on DDR... lol
Anyhow the problem I have with DDR is the fact that Konami instead of getting new songs in the past, they would fill the game with American oldies and really obscure or in house made songs... |

we just got ITG here in orlando (rocky's replay <3) and I must say I'm pretty impressed. I've heard that test versions of it had problems with periodic lagging and offsync steps, but it seems to be fixed. I've got all the 10s except queen of light (freakin hands) passed and one 11.
my one MAJOR gripe about this is the noteskin color. as a red-green colorblind person, I have an extremely hard time reading the 16th notes and have to pay close attention to what I get in sections that look like they have them so I know what to do next time. the noteskins to me look almost like flat. while for 90% of people this probably won't be an issue, to me it is a real handicap to my sight reading. hopefully in future versions of ITG there will be something closer to a "vivid" noteskin or one that has a brighter 16th note color if they are going to continue basing the noteskins off of "note". |

My friends and I really love the ItG noteskins, because they're so well-distinguished compared to DDR vivid or solo, but I hadn't thought of colorblindness. The noteskin is practically the only thing that lets me actually read the 10+s on 1x. :/
Let them know over at their forums... make a suggestion in "The Future" or something. If they heard about your trouble, I'm sure they'd do their best to accomodate you for ItG2. They're very responsive to the community.
For example, back in beta, I saw a video of the steps for Hardcore of the North on hard, and I thought they were okay, but kind of dull. I made a suggestion about how they could be more interesting (more 1/16ths following fast parts in the rhythms), but didn't really think about it after that. When I actually got to the arcade and saw the steps, they had bumped HotN up from an 8 to a 9, basically following my suggestion. I was amazed!
Something similar happened with Zodiac hard (I made a few suggestions to make the steps more interesting, IMO), so changes were made, but then there was such a big fan response in favor of the old steps, they were changed back.
So yeah... ItG listens to the fans. Something very encouraging for us US dance games players. _________________

Sorry about that--I've even had discussions with people about colorblind-friendly design in games, so it's embarrassing that this slipped through. I'll talk with the artist folks about getting a couple appropriate note skins designed with this in mind. |
