Does anyone know where I can find a picture of a ITG machine to use for my desktop?

DDR1guy: try searching ITGFreak or one of their links. I'm sure I saw something.

To Roxor staff: any chance of a machine coming to North Carolina? I'm feeling deprived!

I live in Northern CALIFORNIA, and I'm feeling deprived. We're normally a pretty hot place for DDR. frown.gif There are a couple of machines in California, but they're around 800 miles away from me. California is so big, it's practically two states.

Mines suck buttocks, indeed. One of the worst "features" of ITG.

Mines don't tend to bother me... in general they just range from "awesome" to "absolutely pointless." There are really only a few songs where they annoy me.

On the one hand, a lot of songs use mines totally uselessly. Stuff comes up like a jump on two arrows, and mines on the other two. If you hit the jump right, how would you ever hit the mines? Similarly, 1/16th runs with mines 1/8th away from any arrow. You're already stepping on two other arrows by that point, so why does it matter?

Then there's stuff where mines piss me off. Hardcore of the North, for example. There are runs with jumps and steps, alternating on 1/8th notes, and all the steps have a mine accompanying them. They say they put the mines in so people have to do the actual steps instead of just jumping all the time. However, I wouldn't jump all the time anyway, and while I'm stomping on the lone arrow, the mine under my other foot goes off! >:O

There are a few songs, though, where mines are awesome. I love the steps for Disconnected Hyper (ex). The parts with the mines and freezes on quarter notes at the beginning and the end are a lot of fun to play, because you have to do some fun, funny footwork to hit them. I like stuff where mines are actually being used creatively. However, a lot of the time, it seems like they're not.

I just find that mines completely defeat the purpose of a rhythm game. Like, crap, just let me put my feet where I want.

At least mines don't break your combo anymore like they used to..

I completely disagree. Mines are Great! they add difficulty to the game and forces you to do some really cool steps...My favorite with mines is "Lemmings on the Run" has a crapload of mines, but I like how it makes you step...of the features on the game, I think the hands is the worse...if you don't hit the pad right, it can hurt your hand (messed up my thumb...) and when theres a hand freeze, it's hard to keep the button depressed...so it ends before the freeze is done...I still like the hands, though (sometimes) Bend your mind, Queen of Light and Dawn are really good for hands...

The hands bug me in Queen of Light and Bend Your Mind. frown.gif I always miss the hand freezes.

I like the hands in Zodiac and Anubis, though. Those are fun.

EDIT: Also, Marathon mode is awesome. Hooray for 40% flip! Especially on doubles. biggrin.gif

EDIT: Important things to remember while playing In the Groove.
1) Don't ever think, "It's only a 9!" You're not in DDR anymore. 9s can have 1/16th runs around the pad now, and crazy stuff like that.
2) Don't ever think, "It's only a 10!" I don't care how easy Zodiac is, they get a lot harder than that.

There's a whole new rating system out there, guys and gals. Get ready to Groove. biggrin.gif

I like mines... It's just something different, and isn't that hard to get used to. Do you also hate freeze arrows? They do the same thing, really... (ie, force you to step a certian way)

Freezes still fit with the context of the music requiring you to step to a beat. Mines force you to not step with the beat, which in my opinion defeats the purpose of a rhythm game.

well...if you've ever played a musical instrument, you'd know that there are notes, and there are rests. that's how I see the steps and mines...it's not takeing you away from the rhythmn (or whatever you're trying to say) it's part of the rythmn, if the music calls for you to play an 1/8th note, then why play 1/2 note? you're actually off when you stay on for longer than you're supposed to ( as opposed to stopping when it tells you to) in music (and ING) the rests are just as important as the notes...

But when used properly, mines force you to use specific footwork, which easily fits in the purpose of a dancing game. Look at the beginning of Hardcore of the North on hard single, for example. You have 1/8th runs separated by a mine on everything but the last note you hit. At first that part seems really awkward, because the next run coming up always involves a slide... if you play it the traditional way. However, if you take the mines as an opportunity to hop and switch your feet, then the run is set up to be done easily. There, mines force you to use a specific footwork, which I think is awesome.

Similarly, in Remember December hard and expert, there are parts where you're walking around on holds, and there are mines everywhere else. There, it's easy to avoid the mines by standing on one foot any time you step. So, it's an exercise in balance and makes you use different footwork.

I think mines are totally appropriate. E1.gif

However, I hate the "add mines" mod for exactly the reason you don't like mines. It makes steps into mines, meaning that parts where you would step to the beat you instead DON'T step, which is lame, like you said. However, songs with prescripted mines tend to be pretty cool.

Am I the only one that seems to notice that Konami, as well as many artists/groups, can take legal action against the creators and venues that have this game?

No, it's just that I dont think that anyone really cares, as it's not them getting sued, just getting all the insane fun and cool music that in the groove has to offer, or there's some other reason... and kiba, jsb, or a knowledgeable mod or admin'll tell you! tongue.gif

I'm sure the creators of ITG have some knowledge that what they are doing is illegal.. But the venues that have the machines probably don't know this. I'm sure if they did, they probably wouldn't harbor these machines.

Arcade owners don't give a crap if something is illegal. They just see the $$ signs. In case you didn't notice, nearly every DDR machine out there these days is a bootleg mix of some kind.

As far as Konami suing the makers of ITG, I'm sure it will happen if it ever picks up any momentum. They were pretty quick to quash Andamiro when Pump it Up was released, after all. However, if you want to talk about copyrights, trademark and patent infringement, and other legal issues, take it out of this thread. Kthx.
