Just a quick add, incase anyone is interested,

Back when I had a legit Solo 2000 mix I was able to get it to boot with a burned copy of the CD. I did nothing special to make this CD either. I simply dragged and dropped all the files from the Solo 2000 CD into the windows program that burns on my CD writer. I stuck that inside my machine and it worked.

I mention this because after looking at my Solo 2000 CD, I could tell that it had a lot of miles on it. It would make sense that if an original copy of a CD could no longer be used, that a burned copy would be placed there instead.

The moral of the story is: If it's a burned copy, that doesn't necissarily make it a bootleg, but it probably is.

It would only work because both discs have the same numbers as the security roms.

I tried looking for the answer on the site already, but could not find it.

Does anyone know a list of good 3rd party cd-rom drives to replace the one in my moddified DDR machine? Channelbeats 150 is a lot and betson's 250 is even more.

I'd buy it if I had to, but I already work on a budget. Just want to see if there are other options first.

I know I could clean my cdrom drive out, but its from 1999 so I think replacing it would be a good thing anyway.

Anything that is 24X. No CD RW's or DVD drives (tried both, didn't work frown.gif ).

Thanks for the tip.

Want to keep my DDR machine healthy happy.gif
But you have indeed replaced yours with a 24 speed and it worked?

After buying a new CD-ROM, I'm going to replace the fan too.

<----- Woohoo! [/gloat]

When you switch out the drives, just make sure your connections are tight. Don't want that IDE cable falling out while you're in the middle of a song.

I say this because something similar happened to a Percussion Freaks I used to be in charge of in my days at the second tilt I was in charge of. IDE cable came loose and the game wouldn't boot up.

I tried replacing it with a 24X CD-RW and a 24X DVD drive.... And that didn't work. The arcade that I go to is getting a replacement drive in soon.

Just a tip, the jamma cable can be a little bit of a pain to get in, that and the 2 wires from the amp to the sys 573.

They don't work. They just use the parts mass-produced from the PSX. Usually the controller parts are covered. They don't actually wire into anything.

See also Guitar Freaks' memory card slots.

I purchased a Creative 24x CD rom and my machine rejected it.

After further investigation, it was Ho-Man that informed me that the DDR machines have Mitsumi CD ROM drives in them. I shall purchase a 24x Mitsumi and see if that works in the machine.

New info: Apparently, its NOT a Mitsumi. It is in actuallity a MATSHITA CD-ROM CR-589

Now, after doing some more digging, Matshita and Panasonic are actually the same company.

Panasonic produces a CD-ROM called the CR-589B which happens to be a 32x
as quoted here: http://www.betabreakers.com/tech_dvd_cdrom.html

I'm going to be purchasing a 32x panasonic and see if it works. I'll post my results as they come.

Just a question. We have a Solo 2000 machine, and it seems to boot up just fine and go through all the checks, but it asks us to insert a boot disk.

Anybody have an idea what disk i need? As far as i know, There should only be the solo 2000 disk right? Unless there's a boot disk...if there is, is there just a general boot disk or is there only one that's specific to solo 2000?

(By the way I don't own the machine or anything, just one of the arcade owners here has a solo 2000 machine that isn't working so we're trying to help fix it.)

Wow, that's weird.

I think something got corrupted, you may have to reinstall your mix (with a bootleg probably).

That's rather intense, Jonny.

I'll have to ask a few more questions before I can even fathom to help you. First and foremost, let's figure out if your mix is a bootleg or not. I've never heard of a bootleg Solo 2000, but then again, I've never heard of this error message before.

The best way to figure out if it's bootleg or not is to look at the Digi I/O board and see if the ROM chip has been replaced or not. If there is a slightly bigger board attached to the main board, that's probably the mod board and it is indeed a bootleg. However, if there is a regular rectangle chip with konami on it instead, then it is just a Solo 2000 legit. Another good way is to look at the security cart. If the security cart has solo 2000 it is most likely legit, however if it has something like Solo Bass, then it is a bootleg.

Anyway, I have a copy of Solo 2000. It's pretty unlikely that it would help, but it might.

If nothing else, I believe there is a bootleg of Extreme that will actually work on a solo machine without a mod board. However, for that you would have to buy the 32 mb flash card since solo 2000 doesnt have one. Might be your only alternative though.

Or, if anything else, I might be willing to buy it for cheap. biggrin.gif

Two things.

First, finding a flash card is quite good. Especially if it's the right one. Although, if it's not a Fujitsu and it's not 32 MB's, it's not going to work.

Trust me. I wen't on my crusade of finding an alternate linear flash card a long time ago and it ended in futility.

Second, I noticed you didn't mention the rarest item: The digital I/O board. Digital I/O boards can run at any price that the seller feels like it up to about 1000 under the cost of the entire machine. This would be the next thing to find.

You also haven't mentioned having pads. I wen't on a search for doubles mix pads to mod my Solo into a doubles machine, hoping to rebuild the cabinet and transform my Solo into a Doubles. However, the closest I could find were PIU pads, and Techno Motion.

Good luck with that as well.

Once you've solved all of these problems, we can start to talk about software. The software doesn't just run on anything, only the official konami hardware. The software is actually easier to find than any of these other components.

Anyway, you will be more likely to build the components for a StepMania Machine.

Ok, for people who were wondering what that GIGANTIC updated was:

The FAQ is now in the Tips and Guides section on the main page, I've also updated the orginla faq to mirror that one.

The monitor on my DDR machine keeps "jumping" all the time. Vibration seems to be a big factor on how much it jumps. Any idea what's wrong witih it and how to fix it? (I'm personally guessing something is loose but I don't know what).

....thanks
