Is the Red Octane Ignition still considered reliable? I thought I read somewhere here that it, too, is not being mfg'd as well as it was.
Maybe it's still the better choice even so? Or maybe the post was making the point that it's not worth the higher cost anymore?
OR... Maybe I should go find the phantom post...

Just this morning, the left arrow on my Red Octane Ignition 2.0 pad started phantom stepping...badly. I was in the middle of Music (Bostik Radio Edit) on the Cool 7 Challenge course when it began to fail, which annoyed me no end. I started over, and failed .59 Standard on the same course because the left arrow would keep registering when it wasn't being pressed. After shutting down my PS2, unplugging my pad, and unzipping it to kneed and massage the left panel from below, the problem seems to have gone away. I was at least AA*'ing some easier Heavy songs again afterwards, so hopefully that was just a weird fluke. I've only had the pad for a month, though, and will be quite upset if my $100 investment doesn't last the year... |

Hey, I've had the same problem with my BNS Pad...drifting arrows. It's pissing me off to no end. They have pretty much drifted to the center and in a big clump...
...maybe I should just take them out or something, or use ol' fashion heavy duty duct tape, if I can find some (if someone has a better idea, please tell me now while I'm getting the box cutter) |

Duct Tape is the obvious answer to fixing anything. You're choosing the right path. |

if the quality of the BNS and RO pads are slipping i think it's time for a mod to in to play.....i mean it's not like something like a little slipping of the inserts is gonna totally fry ur pad. just break it in a much faster rate....so then just find a way to stick the inserts in with like ductape or something.
oh and i think i remember my friend getting an old "good quality" manufactured RO ignition pad and the inserts came separate from the pad. he had to piece the inserts together and then shove it all into the pad. so then how do the inserts stick in the pad??? |

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the "inserts" discussed here are not the large, 0.75 - 1 inch thick dense foam inserts you can put in by unzipping the pad. The inserts people are having trouble with are the thin bits of foam/plastic which are placed just under the topmost layer of the pad to make the UDLR arrows feel different, so your feet can tell if they're on the arrows or on the corners/center. When those start drifting out of position, it can confuse you and make you step in the wrong place. |

There are some pads on eBay that are called 'ignition' and they say they're 3.0 or 3.5. Most of them look exactly like my bns and the red octane ignition on the surface, but the price ranges vary a lot. Do they work as well as the bns or red octane ignitions? I was thinking I could use the foam insert from my dead bns to mod it if that's the only issue with those pads. Then I think about how many of them there are listed and how no one here seems to be rushing to snatch them up...
Here are the one's I'm looking at (and/ or wondering about) if someone would be kind enough to help me out:
8137881927
8139053041
8139087415
8138849824
My other option, which I'm trying to get around, is to go over to game stop and buy the RO Ignition for $100.
What would YOU do if you had to replace your BNS DX Xtreme right now? _________________

Well, I just went to the store and bought a RedOctane after my whole debacle with BNS, just because I was tired of having to deal with horrible pads. |

Nooooo!
I've had my RedOctane Igniton 2.0 pad for less than a month, and the down arrow is starting to freak out on me. I'm not sure if it is doing phantom steps per se, but I suddenly found that it was having problems during the songs. Then, when going through the menu on training mode, every time I try to push the down arrow, it goes down for a split second and then goes back up. And trust me, I'm not stepping on any other arrows, I'm completely off the pad and am pushing it with one foot.
Please tell me my $100 investment was not a waste! Is there some way to fix this? Oh, man, I hope its not a lost cause. It was working so great before... _________________

Ok, I'm getting ready to cut open my RedOctane Igniton 2.0 pad. It seems that when certain parts of the down arrow get pushed, it just registers "down" for a split second and then changes to "up", so if you hold it, it continues holding "up", not "down". This is kind of weird because it's nowhere near the up sensor, it actually is toward the back. The part of the sensor that freaks out like this is rather small, but my foot is rather big so I end up hitting it on almost every down arrow, and it cancels out ofther steps and whatnot, so it is really not cool. Anyway, I'm going to do some fiddling with sensors. If anyone has any suggestions for this particular problem, or for fiddling in general, please let me know! _________________

Wholeheartedly agree with the above comments about BNS Extreme pads.
Everything is just ducky, except for the arrow inserts. They started drifting very quickly, both in the original pad I bought, and in the replacement they sent when I complained about the first one.
So while I did get two pads for my money, and they quite playable, the location of the arrows is quite irritating. I tried fixing one by cutting it open, and worked for a little while. It was a huge pain to do, though.
All in all, I would recommend trying to find a similar pad that does not have this problem. It is otherwise very good. |

I have a question for anyone who's got an Ignition 2.0. I played on one at Best Buy over the weekend, and overall it's a great pad but there was a problem with it. The arrows seemed like, hyper sensitive or something. I would barely move my foot away from the center, and it would register, mainly on the down arrow. Anyone had a problem like this? It might've just been the fact that they were store demo pads, and people have probably already stomped the bejeezus out of them. I was planning to buy a BNS DX Xtreme, but given the recent news about what's happened to them, I've decided to steer clear of them. Thanks in advance! |

The sensors are much bigger on the Ignition pads. This can be both a blessing and a curse. The good news is that, obviously, the arrows are going to be easier to hit. The bad news is that, especially on freeze arrows, sometimes you accidentally are stepping on two arrows with one foot, and that can block out other arrows you might be stomping on. Oh well, you get used to it after a while. And while selecting stuff in menus, just keep your feet in the middle. _________________

Ah, so what I'm calling hyper sensitivity is actually a feature. I see. Thanks! The problem wasn't really all that bad... I was AA'ing stuff in the store easily. As you sort of mentioned, it affected the menus more than anything else. When I would try to select one thing and the larger sensors would cause it to jump to another choice right before I made the selection. I think I'd get used to it eventually, though. Thanks again, eyebrowsoffire! |

I ordered a RedOctane Ultramix and Ignition 2.0 Bundle Pack. And the pad has Dual plugs! Sweetness even though I don't have a PS2 lol |
