This was my first pad.

By itself, this pad is okay for light and easy standard songs.

Once you get into the harder songs, the pad will just crumple up or drift away under your feet. Even with the "NON-SLIP FLOOR GRIP" and the rubber stickers, you still can't keep it in one place during a song.

Duct-taping it down on a board does help make the pad function better and prevent the crumpling. There's still an issue of the board drifting away. Sticking rubber on the bottom of the board, or putting the board against the wall will solve that problem.

I bought 2 pads and both lasted me 3 months of heavy playing before problems came around.

From ripping apart the pad, I found out that there are 3 layers inside the pad: an upper sensor plastic, foam with holes where the sensors are, and a bottom sensor plastic. The foam in the middle seperates the 2 plastic sensors from touching. When you step on an arrow, the foam is squished, making the 2 sensors touch. The foam is cheap shit, and will stretch and rip after a lot of usage. Because of this, you could press the up arrow in the middle of the pad, and there's a whole bunch of dead area in the down area. This foam damage also causes ghost steps and "sticky" tiles. If they have used better foam in the middle, it would have been a better, longer-lasting pad.

I only recommend it if you have nothing else to choose from and you're just starting out.

I think this pad is only sold in Gamestop stores. I haven't seen it sold anywhere else.

Also, the box is misleading about the lights. The box on top of the pad only lights up when you step on the arrows. The arrows don't light up at all. E10.gif

My local EB carries it.

Yeah, I think that's the way all the "lighted" softpads work.

Instead of duct taping my pad to wood, i duct taped it down to my carpeted floor. It was working good for around 3 months, but now, the pad has holes on the top of it. Sometimes it would just exit out of the song without me holding the button down. And the pads reaction is horrible. When I step on it, it will say i got a "miss" when I got the step. Can Anyone Help Me? E2.gif

I think the life of your pads is up. I believe you may need to get a new one since these pads are totally sucky.

I highly recommend not buying this.

After a while, the threading on the outside of the pad (the little green fabric) will come un-done and cause the pad to start to slip. Non-slip grips? Uh, no. This thing will move around more than you move. Very bad pad. Stay far, far away if you plan to do anything past standard. The sensors in the buttons also wear and break after a while.

PS - I got mine at Fry's

Hello. I managed to fix my Soft Pad last time, but this time, it is different. Now, whenever I step on the left arrow, it activates both the left and down arrow which screws me up on every song. Can anyone help or is my pad dead... E2.gif

I think you might have drifting arrows or something of the like. I remember when I used to have this, the bottom of my pads were stripped (literally) and the sensors inside were moving around and such.

I would give up on it because it's a crappy pad to begin with frankly, but I suppose there are some things you can do with it. Perhaps openning it up to see if drifting arrows/sensors is your problem.

Check the bottom part of the pad. Is it shredded in straight lines? The first time I had that problem with this kind of pad I checked the bottom and the bottom part was shredded, meaning that my hardwood floor was in direct contact with some of the sensors and innards of the pad. This of course, did not make me happy.

It could be that some of your arrows or sensors actually inside the pad have drifted or moved from their original positions or the sensors themselves have been worn out from too much play/usage. These pads were NOT made for continued usuage as they are quite crappy.

one of my first dance pads. for a starter pad it is decent. not quite as "non-slip" as it could/should be. started having problems after about 6 months of use(contact sheets inside pad moved; had to cut open and tape in place to fix), and the foam between the contact sheets sometimes gets bunched up as well causing the pad to be unresponsive and fell wierd, but for $20 i guess that is to be expected.

Thanks For The Help But It Turns Out That The Problem Was More Than Just Drifting Arrows. After Untaping It, I Saw That The 2 Plastic Layers Were Completely Shredded. The Sensors Were Shredded Too. I Don't Know How It Still Managed To Even React To My Steps. Well, This Calls For A New Pad...

I STRONGLY suggest you don't duct tape pads to the floor, but rather you should use contact cement to glue your pad to hardboard. It hurts your feet a little (wear socks...) but pad doesn't move at all.

well i had a soft pad like this, they're all tha same right? anyways.. i have VERY LITTLE money and i want to buy a cobalt flux, im savin for, but in the meantime, i'm working from standard to expert, so should i buy another $15-20 softpad? last time i never modded it cuz i didn't have any wood and never knew bout these mods so like if i chairmatmod it how long will it last at its longest? i now kno i have to mod it b4 using and dont over use it, cuz mines lasted in 2 weeks which was a waste of 30 bucks, i think from the sensors burning? so to make it not confusing.. oh yea im not gonna buy those ignition things, alot of ppl keep recommending me that
1. workin from standard to expert, should i buy another soft pad?
2. how long will it last if i modded it?
3. how long should i play everyday to keep from overuse and sensors losing?

thanks nerd.gif

Don't buy one of these. If you're in to Ignitions you should get one of those, as they last quite some time. These NAKI pads and their clones are quite horrible and I really discreccomend them. If you're going to more technical and harder modes, these pads are dangerous as they'll slip around and you may fall down from all the pad movement as well as your own body movement from playing such hard songs.

Don't do it! $19.99 a piece? This is a total waste of money at that price and I speak as a former owner of these awful things. Taping it to plywood? Sounds like investing even more time and money into these crappy pads. If you go to e-bay you can get an ignition-style pad with hard form and raised arrows that will last lot longer, and for about the same price. I got 2 such pads for $60 shipped and I still use them today 5 months later. When you play with the Naki pads you will say 'I could do better if the arrows would respond all the time'. With $30 e-bay ignition-like pads the only thing that limits me is my own skill, it never fails to register so far and I play 9-footers. I wound up giving away the Naki pads to some friends and when I went over to play DDR it wan't even fun the pads were so unresponsive.

Ha. Naki lost their domain and now it's owned by a squatter.

I find that this dance pad is really inadequate for 8-footers and above, but for 7's and below, and also workout mode, it's acceptable.

But, rather than duct-taping it to carpet--which I've done before and had to clean tape marks off the carpet--I've taped it onto one of those spiked office chair mats (they cost around $14.99 + tax), place the pad + mat combo on the carpet.

Using Velcro Extreme to secure the pad to the chair mat also works better than tape, but Velcro Extreme is like $3.99 for five pairs of fasteners, but the pads need more than just 5 pairs of fasteners, and centering the pad velcro pieces to the chair mat pieces can be very difficult to do.

Still, the spikes from the chair mat prevent the pad from moving around on the carpet, but the mistriggers still occur around the 8-foot difficulty. This only works, though, if the carpet is at least 1/4 inch in thickness.
