but the readme stated that the mp3's or wav.'s were optional

No offence, but if you don't have an mp3 or a wav, where did you think the music was going to come from...?

I just downloaded DWI, and it doesn't seem to come with installation instructions...I assumed it would be a program where you piece it together, file-by-file, but it doesn't mention this in the FAQ.

All the FAQ's and readme's cater to someone who's having problems running the game...my problem is getting the game to run. Can someone help me?[/quote]

Uhh, if I remember correctly. DWI comes in a zip file, it shouldn't be an install. In that zip file you should have the directories needed to work the game. You should have an DWI.exe in the root of it as well.

Stepmania actually has an install.

Got a bit of a problem here. Can anyone help me out?

Ok, I have StepMania 3.9 alpha 14 in my PC. My best friend gave it to me through a CD he had burned, in which he saved the program already in his PC. Okay, the program started off fine. Every single thing worked, but after about a minute of using it, the images began to distort, from partially in the screen to awfully all over it to the point that the arrows got quite hard to see. My friend downloaded the very same thing from the web, from my PC, and the very same thing happened. It still works the same: I open the program, choose the song, start playing it, and after a few seconds into the song, CHAOTIC DISTORTION. I have a jpg. picture with a screenshot I made of what the screen looks like when this happens:

That's what it looks like. Creepy, huh?

Well, I was hoping someone knew the cause for this to happen. In case it might have something to do with the video card, it's an ATI Radeon 256MB 9600. My OS is WinXP Pro (just in case).

OK, I couldn't see the image but did it look something like this?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/Confusing/DDR/dwipsmwtf.jpg

Because I found that for some reason, I would get this sort of thing in Paranoia Survivor Max and Sakura, even when I got new versions of the stepfiles and everything that worked on other peoples' computers. For some reason there was no background and DWI would leave images of everything all over.

Finally, I solved the problem by removing the -bg.png images from the folder, and for some reason that worked. At some point I may re-make the backgrounds and see if they'll work if they aren't just copied directly.
