This is the thread in which you can talk about the DK Bongo sets.
Anywho, you know how you can tap the side of the bongo instead of clapping...will that damage the bongo in any way?

You're tapping the side of the bongo. It's a piece of plastic, it'll be fine unless you tap reeeeeally hard.

The MSRP is $49.99 and that INCLUDES the bongo drums. If you want extra bongo drums they're $29.99 MSRP each, but some stores are selling them for $34.99. -.-

EB and GameStop have taken to selling some non-AAA-list titles at $5 extra, claiming that they just can't afford to devote significant shelf space to non-guaranteed sellers. They started doing this at select locations a few years ago.

On IGN's Gamecube board, someone who works at EB said last week that they were on their 3rd set of bongos for the kiosk display. Granted that an instore demo gets more use than a home controller but it still makes me question how long these bongos will last. I plan on picking up an spare set of bongos once FYE gets them in (I have $70 store credit there) just because I think they will be hard to find and I want to have a backup set of drums. |

Nintendo's website is a good place to get them at their MSRP.
Oh and Cutriss they did that for Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced and those new Pokemon games for GBA so yeah, they do do that now. -.- Lame.
EDIT: Oh Yoshifan, maybe that's true because n00bs might play that game and they might smack the crap out of the bongos. Anyways, I'm still keeping mine in good condition. I'm scared of it breaking but if it does...I'll have a backup since I'm going to buy the Donkey Konga 1/2 Bundle that comes with the Bongos for my Japanese GC. I'm pretty sure the American bongos can work on a Japanese GC and a Japanese bongos can work on an American GC right?

I believe not if the L, R, Z, X, Y, and C stick, are needed for the games since there's only two "buttons" on the bongos. Left and Right, which I believe is B and A respectively.

I don't have the game yet, but from personal experience I can honestly say that first-party Nintendo controllers are quite sturdy and withstand normal use for a very long time. The thrashing the controllers get on display kiosks can hardly be called "normal use". I've seen controllers with the frigging analog sticks ripped out, for Chrissakes, so I can only imagine the insane pounding those bongos get . 
In short, unless Nintendo has somehow dropped its QA standards, you shouldn't worry about the bongos dying on you.

Ah, okay. Yeah, my bongos have been holding up even when I play like crazy on Gorilla mode all the time. I want those DK Golds. =D Haha, but I'm still very careful.
Something that scares me though, when I plug the bongo controller thing in it makes a clap noise on the title screen as if you clapped. I turn on the GameCube first and then plug it in so that may be the problem, or it might be me setting the thing on a stool in front of me to play. Bleh, I guess it's probably the latter but DAMN I never knew they were that sensitive. Fuc[i][/]iking sweet.

| My bongos are holding up just fine after a few weeks of play, even on Gorilla, and I can slap them rather hard when I'm getting into it. As for the demo kiosks, I imagine that any controler wouldn't hold up to 12 hours a day of stupid kids practically smashing them off the walls. I wouldn't worry too much about the bongos registering claps on the title screen when you unplug the bongos either. The mic is VERY sensitive, and will pick up just about any random noise in an otherwise quiet environment. It registers a clap when I put the bongos on the ground, for example. |
