Yeah so my arcade has an Extreme Plus, and I gave the guy the code that unlocks items 1-30, and nothing happened. So like, do the Extreme codes in the Announcement work for Extreme Plus? Or do you have to put in all of the codes? I have no idea how that stuff works. Help would rock cuz having only the default songs sucks. _________________

Main problem I've seen with Unlock Codes are with entering the screen where you actually enter these codes. The sequence does require someone to hold an arrow in it. However, if that particular arrow has problems (ie: freezes don't work on it), then you're gonna have a hard time unlocking the songs. You have two options: 1- get that arrow working by cleaning/repairing the sensors, or 2- get someone who's gonna press extremely hard on it.
If your problem's with the codes themselves, try another code, just to see if it works. Then go progressively with each code. That's all I can suggest. _________________

for some reason i don't like extreme plus as a name...
megamixtreme
haha!
anyways it's a bit wierd as a mix... it appears to have everything extreme has.. so that's good...
is it actually any better in any possible way?
how are they selling this crap to arcade owners?
note:
a bunch of the graphics are changed FROM extreme, you can tell from the timer in the corner during song selection.. it's still pretty green.. but this ugly red/blue junk |

Okay, let's have a quick lesson about overclocking, shall we?
Overclocking is what's used to denote the practice of cranking up the clock speed beyond what the hardware is spec'ed to handle.
Now, let's say you have a P2-450 but you don't have a motherboard capable of running a 100MHz system bus. You can't get 450 from a 66MHz system bus, so the best you can do is 66MHz * 6.5 multiplier = 433.
But you still want that last little bit of performance. Let's say you have one of those fancy Asus boards that have a whole bunch of different bus speeds in little increments. If you set your board speed to 69MHz, you'll effectively get your 450MHz processor to run at capacity, but this will still be referred to by some people as "overclocking". You may not be overclocking the CPU, but the peripherals on the system bus are running at a slightly faster clock rate.
Anyhow, the point of this is that it's a complete assumption on *everyone's* part that Extreme Plus causes any long-term damage to the hardware. You don't know what the hardware is spec'ed to handle, so these "overclocks" could well be within the performance specifications of the System573 hardware. _________________

Quite true. But given the cost of a DDR machine and how difficult it is to obtain parts/service...do you really want to take that chance?
If I blow up my PC's CPU, motherboard, etc., I'm out no more than a few hundred dollars and a trip to the local computer shop and/or online store. If I blow up any component in the 573...well, 1) who do I call? 2) how badly are they going to rape me once I call them?
But your point is quite accurate...we have no idea what the tolerance of the 573 hardware is. You can definitely approach this from two different angles. 1) Hardware design is more capable than its specs. Afterall, if overclocking didn't work, no one would do it!, or 2) Better safe than sorry.
Just my 2 cents. |

Well, all these symptoms (heat damage, electromigration) are evidence of a hardware overclock. This hack uses a software overclock, since the upgrade doesn't involve any modification to the hardware. If the hardware is already tied to a clock generator...dot dot dot...
Unless someone is suggesting that the hardware has known liabilities, and part of DDR's code issues regular NOOPs to the CPU to cool it down...
No...I suspect they just found an internal timer that's used to govern the entire game and worked in a function to change its increment value on demand.
There's an easy way to test this. Hook up a few thermisters to whatever chips have heat sinks, sample some temperature readings during normal play, and then do the same after installing/using Extreme Plus.
EDIT: Here's a thought. Set the game speed to boosted, and then turn the machine off. Is the speed boosted again when the machine is powered on? If not, then the clock timer is almost certainly simply run out of RAM, and thus easily changed and doesn't affect the speed of the hardware. _________________

= 10% faster (I think)
Green button = Normal (there should be a green button emoticon )
= 20% faster
Well we put it on 20% faster, and then turned the machine off and back on. It was still set at 20% faster. It stays that way forever until you hit a different button at the right screen. So to answer your question, yes, it was still boosted when we turned it on. _________________

Now if you where to try re-instaling DDRExtreme after having the machine on + 20% (before re installing), would it stay that way in DDR extreme? _________________

Can you "upgrade" (or whatever you want to call it) a Extreme Plus to a regular Extreme?
And does anyone know where I can get the manual for Extreme Plus? The arcade owner didn't get it when he bought the machine. _________________

I don't know if this is the right section to put this in, and I apologize if it has already been covered but...
Our arcade in Charleston, SC has the DDRMegamix. I wanted to update it in the machine location but it doesn't give an option to select megamix.
So I just put in DDR extreme. It has pretty much everything extreme has, except for the backgrounds and "In the Navy".
So I hope someone doesn't get mad when they come to our arcade and don't find "In the Navy" among all the other songs. |

"In The Navy" isn't on Extreme anyway. _________________

Nobody has managed to get anywhere yet with regards to swapping songs in and out of Extreme or any other mix, so I highly doubt you've done what you say you've done. _________________

OK so I guess we finally have this Extreme Plus figured out. It always got stuck on that 20% music speed bullshiz and it was really annoying. So one day it was stuck on that crap, and I was like "What if I do this?" and I picked Beginner mode. BAM! There was the option to put it back on Normal speed. We never discovered that before because the few people that do play DDR around here play on Heavy, and if you pick Heavy it stays on whatever speed thing it's already on and doesn't give you the option to change it. Yey for me. Long story in a nutshell, dumb people shouldn't be allowed to take drinks into the arcade because they always seem to spill on the pads. _________________
