i also saw it on TV. it was a game show, but i don't know what one because i was just flipping through the channels and it came up. it was a challenge thingy. it was so unfair though because they played on beginner and one of the guys had played DDR before and was a standard player, so obviously he won. it was funny though! _________________

In Star Ocean: Til the End of Time, the music during the battle with Biwig at the beginning of disc 2 is a strange remix of think ya better D (the lyrics anyways).

A video game weight loss program?
University's pediatrics exercise medicine department studies health benefits of video dance games
DONNA HARTMAN
Herald Staff Writer
Chris Welch is living proof that you can lose weight doing Dance, Dance Revolution.
Welch, 14, said he dropped his weight from 272 to 238 pounds since Christmas. He attributes his weight loss to doing DDR. He was recently dancing up a storm on the DDR Extreme video game at Fun-n-Games at DeSoto Square Mall in Bradenton.
"In the summer, I came here almost every day and I do DDR on my PlayStation 2 at home," said Welch, a Bradenton resident and a student at Manatee School for the Arts. "I'm trying to get down to 180 pounds. I've also made a lot of friends."
That anecdotal evidence is just what Vish B. Unnithan, associate professor of exercise science at Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y., wants to hear. He specializes in teaching and studying pediatric exercise medicine.
Bill Howser, a graduate student in Unnithan's department, recently completed research on the potential for improved cardiovascular and physiological effects of children using DDR. Results of the study are expected to be published in early 2005.
While specifics are not available, preliminary results gleaned from the research are "pleasantly encouraging," Unnithan said in a telephone interview from his office in Syracuse. Unnithan is also president-elect of the North American Society for Pediatric Exercise Medicine.
The study set out to evaluate the physiological stresses of doing DDR by measuring the heart rates and oxygen consumption of 22 boys, all age 12, while they danced on DDR pads. Ten of the boys were considered overweight, or had a Body Mass Index in the 85th percentile or greater, according to nationally accepted pediatric growth charts. Twelve 12 of the boys were not overweight.
The boys danced on home versions of DDR for PlayStation in front of a large screen TV for a period of 12 minutes.
During those 12 minutes, all of the boys achieved an exercise intensity that could improve cardiovascular fitness, Unnithan said. The children were dancing at the lowest level of difficulty on the game, he added.
"The findings were very encouraging," Unnithan said. "They were showing cardio-physiological benefits even at the lowest level of the game."
Unnithan received assistance from Konami Digital Entertainment - America and Sony PlayStation to do the study.
He is looking for financial assistance and/or technical support for a second "training" study that would measure, in children, the cardiovascular and physiological benefits of doing DDR over a longer period of time.
"It's hard to say to an overweight child, 'Go to a gym, walk, run or swim,' " he said. "With DDR, they can dance. Children love music and movement. With DDR, their TV and video game environment has been modified to get them moving.
Unnithan speculates that if children use DDR over a period of weeks or months, they might start looking beyond video games for other forms of exercise.
"It could be a catalyst for becoming intrinsically interested in exercise," he said. "It might open the door to other activities like bicycling, walking or running outside. Children might find they don't get as breathless as easily."
According to the American Obesity Association, approximately 30 percent of children ages 6 to 11 are overweight and 15.3 percent are obese.
From initial research results, Unnithan believes that the new generation of "active" video games could have an impact on changing those statistics.
"It's not a couch potato game," said John Veenstra, arcade manager for Livingston's Billiards and Games in Sarasota, which as two DDR Extreme video games. "The kids are up and physically moving. Parents like that." |

Oh shit. Chris Welch? I hate that little asshole. ~_~ That fat little bastard broke the left pad at Fun'n'Games, and he expects everyone there to love him merely because he's slightly improved at DDR in the past few months. Grr. |

Dunno if anyone has said this, but I saw it on Jepordy ( Spelling? )
The question was "This arcade game has got you moving you feet "
Answer: What is Dance Dance Revolution?
You could tell he had played before because of the smile on his face as he said it.
It was the kids version of the real gameshow, by the way. Most adults would probably not get that one. _________________
