When I first actually started trying to play this game in the arcade, I did quite decent on the light songs. Mainly scored "Bs". But when I found out they had a DDR for the PS2 and decided to buy it, I started doing crappy on most of the light songs. So I decided to start from LESSON MODE and work my way through all the difficulty from Beginner to Heavy. I still don't truly remember if it was the pad or just me sucking badly. But as I got better, it slowly started to show that my first pad was a little more whack than my skills. (Had a Mad Catz Beat Pad. Bleh.)

First Song was butterfly begginer. Me and my friend barely passed with a D.

I then smacked a friend when he interrupted me on our second song, Little Bi tch

The very first time I played, the guys at the arcade had suggested for me to start off on Beginner. Thing was... the guys picked Bag!! It was very SLOW (duh, huh?!) and I missed almost all the steps! I was like, "There's no way I'm getting on that thing, again!!"! But, after a week on Beginner, my cousin persuaded me to go up to Light. Funny that, now that I am on Heavy, I think back to when I had a hard time passing Matsuri Japan, Candy (non-vocal), Exotic Ethnic and Captain Jack on Light! I've been playing for a year and a half, now and, even though there are a lot of songs I cannot play or refuse to play on Heavy, I think I came a long way!

Wow. First time I ran into DDR was in....late 2000.

I was visiting my then boyfriend (now husband) during break from grad school and he insisted we take a trip out to Mitsuwa in the Chicago Burbs.

"There's this game there I think you'd like, called Dance Dance Revolution..."

Now. I had heard of the game, it'd shown up in the news once or twice. But I'd never seen one.

We get out there, and he shows me what to do.

Okay, looks easy enough for a band geek like me. Seven years of marching band oughta get me somewhere in terms of rhythm, eh?

WRONG. I failed 'Boys' on Basic. The boy did better.

But it nagged at me. Every break I got to Chicago, I insisted on a trip out to Mitsuwa so I could try it again.

And then I moved to Chicago, where I had access to his PS2 and got the pads....

Now it's 2004. I'm 31 years of age, and struggling with Standard. Some I can pass, some I fail miserably. However, I've passed Remember You and Cutie Chaser on Heavy, so there's some hope for me.

However, the next time I see an eight year old hammering away on Heavy after I've bombed Sana Mollete, I will just *cry*. E1.gif

Start 4 years ago... in amall there were a cancer foundation that make u pay 1 dollar for 3 songs in ddr on dreamcast...i was 10 years old... anyway,i had D all my songs^^

the second time i played this game was at my birthday last year...on Max2
I was able to do 180 bpm 3 foot songs on C. And here came the summer... i played only one time a month riiight.gif but... i started to do 4 foot songs on B. And here came MY song : Matsuiri Japan. I think that i have payed approx. 40$ on this song^^; Lot of training and i finnally passed it on Heavy.

Now...i'm on light mode(only for maxx unlimited and paranoia) and standard mode(for the next songs^^) I'm able to do A on slow songs on Double(i've just played only 3 times riiight.gif )
I have a gamecube and i'm selling it for buying a X-Box for Ultramix 2

I'm a DDR addict, but the problem is that i'm too far from the next DDR machine(200 km).So... i could play only one time per month. Now with my X-Box,i will be able to do 9 foot songs laugh.gif (with a lot of training riiight.gif )

When I first started playing ddr my first song was Stomp To My Beat and at first I didnt know what to do when the double arrows came up the first round. But when i did it the second time I was ok so i think that from a first mistake you catch on really quick.!!!

I played once about 3 years ago at an arcade. First time I had ever seen the machine, and there was nobody around to show me how to play. I tried it, but not knowing what things like feet meant, i picked a randon song. I don't remember what song it was, but the arrows flew by so fast, I didn't look at the game again untill last Christmas, when I bought DDRMAX2. E1.gif

Being an overweight man, 31 years old, made it a little hard to learn. I started on Beginner, getting D's mostly. I was extatic when I got a B. I stopped playing after a month or so, because I was getting frustrated from the pad slipping all over my hardwood floor. I put the game away, and didn't really touch it untill about 3 weeks ago.

I did the mod for my pad, and it was like a whole nother world. Now, don't get me wrong, I still suck, but I can now do 3-4 foot songs on light, and the occasional standard.

I still have the problem though of losing my place if there are too many arrows on the screen at once though.

Only songs I could pass were Ordinary World, Firefly, and Spin the Disc on Light at my local MAX2 machine, this was about 6 months ago.

And actually, I found Let's Groove easier on Heavy than Cutie Chaser.

How bad were you when you first started? Errm, I'm still a newb. But this is how it went.

In the summer of 2001 or 2002, (I'm so spacy I can't remember), a friend of mine (he's known on the message board as Daku Wan) invited me and my bro and some other friends of his over to his house for a party of sorts, and he had DDR, I'm not sure what mix it was, anyway they convinced me to try it out and I don't remember what the song was, other than that it was a Light song, I asked for an easy one so it was probably a 1 footer E10.gif

Anyway my first try I failed miserably, on my second try I also failed, and that was the last time I played it that day because I was so embaressed. I thought it was fun but I didn't have the extra $ to buy it for myself, and when I did have the money I'd sorta forgotten about it because I had moved off to college and then a year later Daku moved down to Madison so I didn't get to see him. Anyway I didn't play again until I think about 2 months ago (I'm going to college in Madison too now), the mix was Max 2 for PS2 and I played on Daku's homebuilt pad, I did a song I can't remember the name of in beginner mode and failed, I would hit the arrows before they reached the top because it was so slow and my timing was so off. The second time I passed with a D and was all happy. Shortly after that I started searching around on the internet for more information about DDR and stuff. Right now I have DDR Max (the first one, I checked the song lists and liked them on the first one better) but I don't have my dance pad yet, I ordered it a while ago but it hasn't come in.

So really I've only played 4 times and I really suck. o.o Since playing at my friend's house though I've downloaded the mp3's for some of the songs and got the step charts off this site and practiced without actually using a dance pad or the game, so hopefully when my dance pad finally comes in I'll be a little better prepared.
