Free Online StepMania (SMLAN)

Ok, i know this has probably been done, but im getting tired of sitting in the chat room and no one being there.

Ok first you will either need SM Alpha 20 or 21 to run the program.
You can find them here, although im sure most people already have these.

Alpha 20-- StepMania 3.9 alpha 20 (depending on ur operating system, u will need to download the correct one)
Alpha 21-- StepMania 3.9 alpha 21 (download the .exe from the list)

Ok now that you have StepMania, you will need to download the patches to use the online SM. The site with the downloads can be found here, But i list the correct downloads below so you dont need to go there unless u wanna check out some pics.
Depending on which StepMania you downloaded you will need different files.

For StepMania alpha 20 you will need to download this one file:
-SmlanA20b.smzip

For StepMania alpha 21 you will need all three of these files.
-SmlanA20b.smzip (yes u do need this same file for 21 too, alpha 20 and 21 use the same SMLAN program)
-21NetProgram.smzip
-21NetMetrics.smzip


Installation
Installation for these are simple as can be, just run them and choose the folder in which u installed StepMania
(default is Program Files/StepMania CVS) then just click on Install. After this is done , goto your StepMania folder.
there should be a folder called Program. inside there is the SMLAN client. When you run SMLAN you should just get a small box appear on the left with four options
"Host a Game" (I don't suggest hosting a game unless you are pretty smart on computers and know what your doing.)
"Start Stepmania"(this is the main button, when u click this it should ask you to input an ip, this is the ip of someone who is hosting a game. After you input an ip, it should automatically start StepMania and at the top of the screen it should either say Connection Succesfull or failed.)
After uve connected u need to click watch game and input the same ip.
"Watch a Game(With Announcer)"(Watch a game w/ an announcer.)
"Watch a Game(No Announcer)" (Watch a game w/o an announcer, duh)

Ok to find people to play with you can either just use you own personal friends to connect with, or you can goto the official SMLAN Chat to find people to play with.

SMLAN Chat you dont need a password, thats only for admins, jus type a name in and click login.

Error/Bugs
For any errors that u encounter such as MSWINSCK.OCX errors, download this file and unzip the contents to any folder. depending on which error you are getting, just Right click on the corresponding .inf file and click install.

There is a thread right under this one called simple, skinnable, free online DDR. I posted some info about SMLAN in there, but not as much. I did post the link to the FAQ though, this thread is kind of unneccessary. I go to the chat all the time but have never seen you there unless you use a different name. In the chat my name is dave, I am one of the admins, if anyone has any questions AIM me or PM me.

Yes, i saw what you posted below, but this post was just to get more people playing. There is hardly ever more than 2-3 people in the chat room at one time. Plus my post was longer,

This is old news, and at least the second thread for SMLan. If you ask me, SMLan is lame. It's basically a bunch of people playing the same song on Stepmania at exactly the same time and then comparing scores. I don't need a seperate program other than AIM to do that. Playing with people in the same room as me or at an arcade is several times better than SMLan.

Maybe you forgot to open the watch game window Pantera, then you can see the scores. And the chat is better than AIM because everyone goes to the chat, but if you are bored and all of your friends don't want to play, you can check the chat if some random kid is there that you can play against.
