What is a good song to play if you just started playing on light mode?

go by foot rating...

start with 3 footers...then go up from there...try harder songs on the first stage, since you can't fail (assuming you're playing Extreme)

Hard songs on light...

Anything that's a 10 on Heavy except Bag
La Senorita Virtual is a 7 on light!
Any Paranoia or Trip Machine...

when Light mode seems too easy, jump to Standard once in a while until you're confortabe passing stuff on Standard...then continue until you get to Heavy! happy.gif

another thing...unless you're REALLY good at jumps, don't try Witch Doctor Standard while still on Light...it's labeled as a 4 foot, but there are a LOT of jumps in it, and they get confusing...

Witch Doctor standard confuses a lot of players who should be able to pass 4 foots with ease because of the Freezes in the middle. For some reason new players have a very hard time reading those.

Really? Even in my earliest days I thought Witch Doctor standard was pretty simple. I used to use it as a practice song.

Topic at hand: There really isn't any particular song you should be looking for. It's very tempting to just play songs like Witch Doctor that have a very simple beat, but try to play other songs where the beat isn't totally easy to identify. Firstly as a DDR beginner just stick to 1 footers. When you can consistently full combo a song you are ready for 2 footers usually avaliable on light mode. This way of skill building may really try your patience, but if you stick with it you will seriously be able to give Yasu a run for his money. You may also be ready for oni courses much sooner than a lot of players. Careful with oni courses though, you can't use speed mods or solo arrows.
