I just got Beatmania (the first one) and I can't get it to load. I have a fliptop mod and am using Swap Magic Disks v2.0 and v3.0. I tried the cd one and a red bar keeps coming up (should I use the dvd one or what). I looked at the disk and it's scratch free to, could someone please help me? _________________

I don't think the swap magic discs work on ps1 games. _________________

Yup. Get yourself a cheap PS1 Game Shark/Action Replay and use that as your boot disc along with the lid.

Almost the same way you're using Swap Magic. Boot the GS, swap in your import at the main menu (when the GS has stopped the drive motor), then just start the game.

Ok I tried that but when I put the disk in it said bad disk. I just bought a old Playstation (the rectangular one that's kinda flat, one of the first ones) and I tried the gameshark with that too, but it doesn't work. Any ideas? _________________

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

Well I don't feel like paying the money (over $140) for IIDX and the other beatmania games I'm getting are for Playstation too, so that's why I want to get this working. _________________

I can't imagine why it wouldn't work on a PS2 with a PS1 Game Shark disc. You're not trying to use a PS2 Game Shark, are you? And you have to change discs with the fliptop lid, of course.
If you're doing it with a PS1, you'll need something to hold down the lid switch, otherwise it checks the region data as soon as you change discs (and fails miserably).

I think he/she's talking about going through the trouble to play 2nd Mix which is...kina bleah. Pick up Best Hits, at least.
For your PS1, which GameShark are you using? The older plug-in type? The "GoldFinger" or GameShark knock-off (aka "plug-in mod")? Or (God forbid) the PS2 GameShark? _________________

OK first I tried loading it with a ps2 with out anything. Obviosly it failed and I knew it would. The two main ways I tried it was as follows:
1. I used my fliptop Ps2 and the swap magic disks for cd and dvd (I knew dvd wouldn't work becase the disk wasn't a dvd format. Then I bought a Playstaion Gameshark (verson 5 and yes for the first Playstation, not PS2) and I couldn't get that to work. I also tried my other Playstaion 2 gameshark that looks like this, http://www.modchip.ca/products/ps2/images/gameshark2_02.jpg but that didn't work either.
2. Then I went to my local game store and bought a old used Playstation that looks like this here http://www.deas.harvard.edu/courses/es96/spring1998/team2/images2/playstation.jpg. I then tried using the Playstaion gameshark (the first playstation gameshark that looks like this here http://www.gameshark.com/?s=570_938496d-ee11-4a57-a84e-19ce16fef8a1&a=products&id=114. That didn't work either.
So now I'm wondering what to do. Did I do something wrong? Here is the game I have: http://www.hypergameaction.com/image/shousai/beatmania.gif. I'm calling it beatmania because it says that on the disks, but it looks like it says 2nd mix on the case (like it shows). Could there also be some codes I could use since it's a newer gameshark (the one for playstation)? _________________

You can't use official GameSharks to boot imports/burns.
If it says "GameShark" and it's made by InterAct, then you can't use it to load burns/imports.
And there was no Beatmania 1st Mix on PSX, only 2nd (which was packaged with Yebisu). _________________

You can; I've done it. But you have to have the lid switch held down so it doesn't realize you've switched discs. It's a lot like using Swap Magic, but with pretty menus. Heh. Though some revisions of the GS might not work, I've tried several with good results.

If it can't load imports (the ps1 gameshark) then why are there already imports and import codes listed in gameshark? Also if there isn't a beatmania for Ps then tell the guy who made this: http://www.ddrfreak.com/library/beatmania-IIDX.php. So when do you hold down the door button and switch disks? _________________

Just keep the switch held down the entire time. Then you can change discs at the main Game Shark menu.

I think those must be the GS 1.99 versions, I've heard since 2.0 they recognized and fixed the problem (my friend had a 2.2 or a 2.3, and it didn't work). _________________

Well, I bought a PS1 Game Shark within the past year and it worked just fine on a model 1001, a PSOne, and a PS2. I'm not sure why his wouldn't be working... Just stick down the lid switch and switch discs at the main menu when the motor stops.

What does your's look like? The later versions that I know of (that still plug in the back) are not rectangular. I remember trying the swap with a later version of GS, didn't work. _________________

Mine looks like a CD. 'Bout 5 inches or so. ;-)

Well the results are in and.....it worked. I held down the door button with a eraser and a peice of tape and started up gameshark for ps1 in the ps1. When it got to the menu screen I snatched the gameshark disk out and replaced it with the game. I pushed start game and it booted up. Thanks for the help that was provided.
Now I'm off to get another mix with more songs for me to play. _________________
