|
|
In a moment of weakness I picked up an Xbox, and Ultramix wasn't far behind. I found some cheap-o Playstation to Xbox adapters at the local Gamestop, and they work OK for casual games, but now that I've got a Live subscription I'm looking for an adapter that:
A) Has an expansion port for the communicator headset
B) Has the pad actually show up as a pad, and not a controller
I found one adapter:
http://www.ddrnation.com/xbox-adapter.htm
that seems like it might fit the bill, but I was wondering if anyone had tried it out (or found another one that was up to spec). Any info would be much apreciated.

For a few bucks more you can just get an x-box pad and forget the whole converter thing. _________________

I could buy an xbox pad, but we're talking $20 for an adapter compared to replacing my current investment in a pair of $50 BNS DX Extremes. That's $60 of overhead I'd rather spend on Ultramix 2 compared to replacing the pads.... I don't think I'd trust any cheap pads (sub $30) for the same level of play I use my current pads for. Of course, if anybody knows of an exceptional xbox pad with an expansion slot that's cheap, I'd be willing to give it a try...
I did end up purchasing one of the BNS adapters (from buynshop.com) after not hearing from anybody who's tried one. I'll give a full report on if it works with the voice communicator and if my DX Extremes show up as DDR pads in Ultramix after I get it. |

Well, I just got the BNS pad adapter in today and I have to say it's almost perfect. It came with an adapter from Xbox controller to USB, so it can also hook a DDR pad to a PC (as well as use a standard Xbox controller on a PC). It's got a seperated DDR mode on the switch (with controller and wheel being the two standard options). Performance was great, I didn't notice any lag compared to my PSX pad native on 5th mix. It does have a port on the side to plug in a memory card or voice communicator. I can only assume the voice communicator works, since I couldn't find any games on Live at the time.
It does have a 5V DC jack on the back, but it works fine without external power. I'm guessing it's to power the force feedback motors, either on the PC, the Xbox, or both (haven't tested it with a Dual Shock controller). It seems put together pretty well, iand hasn't spontaniously fallen apart of anything in the last few hours I've had it.
With the switch set to DDR mode it shows up as a bad in Ultramix... for the most part. It seems to flicket between the pad icon and a question mark, although I didn't notice any performance issues. I'll have to have a friend join up on one of my games and see if it flickers on his end, although I doubt it since the intervals are so short.
Overall, I'd have to recommend the BNS USB adapter for anybody looking for an Xbox or PC pad adapter. $20 shipped from buynshop.com, it's a bit more than most but seems to be worth the price. |
