I remember seeing the game for the first time, looking at songs like paranoia evolution and orion 78 heavy (it was when i first got it, ddrmax, and i thought those were the hardest because they were last and fastest) and thinking that they were impossible. Then later i saw Max 300. I wondered if it was possible. I kept working up higher and higher. When I finally beat Max 300 heavy (i'm still only able to get B/C on it) it wasn't that big of a deal. The game is sorta dying for me now. It's still fun tho _________________

Quote: | Hopefully your post makes all these people realize that they shouldn't be at the arcade bragging about 100% combos on MAX300 heavy, stealth, while juggling pizza and talking on the bling bling riced out cel phone and alienating those who can't and/or people outside their group.
In fact, it's that same attitude that's probably making people not want to play anymore or even start to play.

Amen.
One thing that I think might help those stuck up people realize that they are that way (maybe they don't know they are) is to tell them. There was this one guy (who is/was better than me) that came up to me one time and started trash talking about me using speed mods on a heavy song. I'd met him before and I just asked/told him, "What turned you into a jerk? Jeez, I'm just trying to play DDR and have some fun. Just because you're better than I am, does that mean you can just go around and down me and other people?" Well later he came up talking to me with a lighter attitude. Just ask people why they are jerks and they'll tell you why or realize that they need to stop being one. Oh yeah, and for the "what happened" thing: people move, get disinterested, and go off to college, go figure.

honestly, ddr has never been more than an addicting video game to me. i appreciate good players, i motivate the bad ones (unless they're like "OmFg i is t3h 1337 & u sux0rz"). i play for fun. i've never even been to a tourney. i go to the arcade only once a week on average. whenever i go, usually i meet up with someone i know through ddr and we'll do verses, and it's just for fun. i play so i can get better. eventually i'll get bored of the game and save a good 10 bucks a week (some of it goes to drinks while i'm there), but right now, i'm down to 3 catas that i haven't passed on max2/extreme: cartoon heroes, afronova, and captain jack. they bug me so much _________________

Wow Catas!!! i haven't heard that term in for ever. That naming scheme has long ago died. Not dissing you DJ 8 Ball
Data~ Go DDR'ing with people that are at your same level. Thats what i do and i have fun everytime i play. B/c i know that the other person is making me better. Some times we have towel snapping fights and crap. You just have to find other people that are devoted to the game as much as you are.
*I truly miss the days of being happy just to get an A on heavy even an AA.* |

I play for fun.. It really bothers me when a good person feels they're too good to talk to people. I went to an arcade and played with two guys ( Not at the same time of course ) and they wouldnt even talk to me.. |

I never even saw it this scene really =\ It just makes me really sad that Konami gave the finger to everyone outside of Japan all the way through the game's history.
With time it is inevitable though. Freestyle seems awesome when the moves you're doing haven't been done to death. PA and stepping is a lot more fun when passing Leading Cyber made you incredibly skillful and getting a heavy AAA (sorry, platinum S) made you absolutely legendary. Spending ages practicing your PA and finally cracking a Kind Lady AAA is kinda dampened by the fact that at least FOUR HUNDRED AND FOURTY THREE people have also done it. And those are just the ones on NNR. You can talk about playing for your own enjoyment all you want but when it's all been said and when it's all been done before, that's not much of a basis for community. Even if Konami came out with another mix there's only so much you can do without the stepcharts becoming absolutely ridiculous. Max.(period) is a sign that things are taking a turn in that direction and when you see Scroll Factor 600 sections (the song is 150 BPM damn it!) popping up you know the game's jumped the shark.
Ah well, there's always IIDX. |

I've been an off and on ddrer for a little over 3 years. when I started out everyone sucked, and we just played for the hell of it. a video game... where you MOVE. OMG so cool concept liek wut!!1 I watched my friends get better and better, but I kind of stayed at the same level.. I blame it on being white. after a good year or two of only playing once every month or so, I'm still at the same skill level (trick/little heavy) and I've noticed the 00ber1337aZns like to comment on how much I suck, how easy the songs I pick are, etc so now I'm pretty much scared to play in public now... very sad indeed. |
