... Well, err... DDR is a showoff game period. You play in an arcade, you're showing your stuff, w-eather you like it or not... I'm sure that non-DDR players call the techer who is playing for the sake of playing a showoff merely because thier feet are on the pad!

FSing is just exploiting the fact even more, and to be frank, I LOVE IT!

Now, "duelers" I don't like, but I'll accept all FS challenges, and usually come out the better of the duel, even though I'm pretty crappy. ((In one case, the infamous Daikenkai headbang getting me through a "win"))

I show off even when I'm failing MaxX ^ ^

I agree with that....
Weather its freestyle, perfect attack, or anything like thta, it's gonna catch the publics eye no matter what. Even though the person whos playing may not be playing for that reason, he still may draw a crowd.

Same thing as AAAing a song in front of you that you just cleared. Freestyling is a totally different way of playing, no matter how different it looks.

Isn't that the point, to show off? Well you really shouldn't judge in the first place. Maybe the person is practicing for a tournament where $ is involved. THEN its not showing off, its going broke and needing cash. But if the guys being a total d!ck, that's when you toss your well-chewed gum onto one of the arrow pads while he's playing.

That'll show 'em...

IMO freestyling is a style of play, juss like everyone else said above, showing off, this again is my opinion of this, is when you try to one up somebody when they look like $hit when they play so you can make yourself look good. what i call freestylin is makin a song look good. make it look fun

Freestyle, showoff...same thing.
You can't help it because of the way the game is setup i.e. you are playing in front of a crowd whether it's FS or PA.
Wouldn't a person full comboing be considered showing off as well? To me it can.

Oh hell yes. I completely agree. PA and FS have the exact same showoff factor. If done skillfully, both can elicit the coveted "Holy Sh!t" response from onlookers.

Some good points were made. DDR, just like any other game, is going to have its fair share of those who 'show off' since those who are good will excile past the less adept. If you want to add some flair, go right ahead I say. It livens up the pace.

It also comes down to if the person is a cocky jerk about it as well disgust.gif

I thought the whole object of freestyling was to look cool for people that might watch hence Showing off.

Here's a better question: Why do you play DDR? Do you play to showoff? Because it's fun? Friend got you into it? And why do you think us FS'ers are showoffs? Because we do something you can't do? That's what it seems like to me. So what if someone plays a song that you can't do. You think he's just showing off he can pass the song? Doesn't that sound stupid? I can't believe there's actually people who think like this...But then again, yea I can. World's a pretty fucked up place. blink.gif

Yep, right on.

I play DDR to have fun. Freestyling is a step above that.

When I freestyle normally, I practice improv, try out songs I'm not used to. If people like what I do during normal improv, it makes me feel good, but personally, I couldn't really care less if people watched me or not during normal play - I'm enjoying myself either way.

You get a total boost of adrenaline/confidence when you dance at a tournament, as most FSers probably know. People have come there to see YOU - they're not meandering around the arcade - and thus, you give them what they came to see: Confident, full-of-oneself, playing-to-the-crowd freestyle.

Chillbert???? that's great lol. laugh.gif

My opinion is that if you can freestyle...and you have fun doing it ...it's not showing off....i mean i was fooling around in an arcade and only my friends were there and they started calling me a show off. Just for practicing something. Now they make fun of me for it and even when i do it at my house they do. They're just jealous E13.gif

i dont think freestylers are showoffs. They are simply challenging themselves with a new mode of play.

Yes. Next question...

That's the intention of FS. You don't see a bartender doing flairs just because he/she is bored and doesn't care about being a showman. He/she is all about the $$$, attention, etc. Same with FS. People FS because they like attention, know that there are tourneys that reward such showmanship, et al... heck, if it wasn't for people in Cali FS'ing back in 2000 -- DDR wouldn't have half the notoriety it did. DDR fans should bow down to those who paved the path to make it famous and accessible everywhere instead of a handful of places. WORD. =P

I enjoy a unique and original freestyle with flare. Its always nice to watch at a tournament but in general I could care less what someone else is doing on the pad, freestylers arent showoffs because it really shouldnt be about showing off but doing what you like to do with ddr and that is play it in our own way.

Plus Im all about PA so I cant stand to watch freestylers sometimes because it hurts to see so many greats.

I like it when people (mainly guys laugh.gif ) freestyle. (come to think of it, i've never seen a girl freestyle) It makes DDR more interesting. Many DDR people can do heavy songs, but not as many can do freestyle and look good doing it. Showing off? Maybe, but if you can do it, hey, do it.

i think when most poeple freesyle they dont do it to showoff but to have some fun while there playing. but if they are showing off i dont see that as a bad thing. poeple who can freestyle are extremely talented and they do have the right to "showoff" or showcase there moves. plus when poeple freestyle large crowds usualy gather making it easy to showoff and the poeple who are watching enjoy the showcase of danceing talent. so showoff or not it doesnt realy matter as long as they have fun during the gameplay.

plus...........if i could freestyle i would showoff too. E15.gif laugh.gif

u got a point, i waz just askin' other opinions of ppl. cauze the dudes at my arcade make it RELE obvious that they want attention so.....u get it.

Well, let's put it this way: everybody craves for attention. That's a human need, so to speak... Just my 2 cents about it...
