Because stomping to flashing arrows in time with lame-o techno beats is acceptable? Doing anything above the bare minimum of nerddom is suddenly not fashionable? What-freaking-ever.

Randomly shouting in public, taking your shoes off, kissing a machine, bonking folks on the head and farting are most definitely not cool things to do... But the game gives the player lots of room to improvise and be creative; heck, mathematically there are only nine ways you can screw up.

Some quirks that have worked their way into my style are as such:

1. Whenever there's a freeze arrow I love seeing how long I can keep my foot off it. Switching feet on a double freeze (you can spin them too), stomping to the beat... It's a guilty pleasure for me.

2. During the bridge section of Xenon (on heavy there's a series of freezes) I like to clap along with the beat. Don't know why, it just seems to fit for me.

3. When seeing a series of arrows in one direction, like up.gif up.gif up.gif up.gif I like to switch feet, left, right, left, right.

4. During the freezes in Breakdown, I find it easier to use my hands on the really quick notes.

5. I like to use the wrong footing on jumps, if it's a left.gif up.gif jump, I'll turn and put my left foot on the up.gif arrow and my right foot on the left.gif.

6. Any seriously bouncy song (pretty much anything by Ryo Kasoka or whatever that doggy's name is) I like to switch into happy mode and get some really gay arm movements going along with an exagerated head bob and stupid grin. I try to fit this emoticons image ---> ^___^;;

7. Slides and 80's style stomping are a staple of my play. Think early Beastie Boys.

8. It's not all that unique but I'm that guy that's always swaying left and right in rythm whenever there's no action on the screen or before the song starts (it helps me keep a beat).

9. My hands will occasionaly lift up over my head without warning and the result is a provocative booty shake.

10. I play better when on the left side since I'm predominantly left handed.

11. The only song I'll ever sing along to is "Into a dark black forest!" There's no way you can't!

Damn, that was a lot longer than I expected.

I have a habit of tapping twice on the left arrow with my left foot and twice on the right with my right foot to the beat of the song before I play. I keep doing it until the song plays. I like doing it for some reason, and I sometimes get some people to end up doing it out of admiration happy.gif

In days go bye I do the little robot thing at the beginning before the arrows come up.
In the whistle song I sing with the guy when he goes you need to bring the beat.
In superstar I make the weird ur ur ur noise.
In almost any song thats in japanese that I play enough to know what its supposed to sound like I attempt to sing the words even though I don't speak japanese.

I play R3 robot style.

I bounce up and down during the intro to PARANOIA EVOLUTION.

Play Sakura without moving much.

There were these kids who kept saying they were better than me and when i finally played the when they danced they played on light and they jumped even if they only had to hit the left arrow. the jump was like right foot, center left foot, left. And when the kid failed daikenkai light he tried to make fun of me because I (moved my arms) it was strictly for balance and i wiped the sweat off my forehead. What the HELL is wrong with that *sigh some people dont knnow when to quit. disturb.gif

Lol, here's my habit...

WIDE mouth on 10s biggrin.gif Clenched fists on PAing or 10s riiight.gif

Massive sweating during ALL oni courses, even those I have full comboed without a sinch... ((And no, I'm not trying to *AAAA*)) riiight.gif

Doublesteps all circles... ((I need to remedy that to do So Deep Shuffle)) disgust.gif

Impromtu disease... can't stop FSing!

Of course, not all my habits are bad... Give me a basic song and I'll try something with it, even PSM. I would be embarrased to play with me too, assuming I'm not a decent FSer. People tend to be mad at me because I'm an FSer in training. ((I'm not that bad, but I haven't gained enough technical skill to do all the crazy tricks I really want to do on diffucult steps since I'm attempting to be a cata-fser just to make me look different))

I put my arms up... A lot... I mean like I bend them and put my hands near the top of my stoach, but away from my body, kinda to the side... Uh... I can't help it! riiight.gif Sometimes I notice myself tapping in mid-air to the beat of the song... Yea... I bob my head too... O.o

I hope some of that makes sense...

Martial Arts pose during the pause in the beginning of Tsugaru - Check.

Uh...but I do have one that noone else seems to have (well, apart from a friend who plays at the same arcade). Singing the Kutimu a capella version of DXY! when someone (including myself) plays it... erm.gif

-Often, I bounce to the beat. Just a habit I picked up when I began playing DDR.
-I strike a pose during any pause in a song.
-On DXY, I lip-sync with the guy saying "Just disturb, guys." (Or at least that's what it sounds like to me, does anyone know what he really says?)
-If I fail, I go crazy and wave my hands in front of the screen, mostly just to look funny.

I hold the bar at the beginning of a song and let go after the first step.

Every time I attempt PSMO I do a "come on then" thing with my right hand (think Neo in the Matrix). Suffice it to say I haven't passed that f***er yet, though I think my inability to play with the bar has something to do with that (not unwillingness, inability)

Bow during the Tsugaru pause... I think a lot of people do this :}

Ecstacy Heavy or Heavy Doubles, if the arcade floorplan permits it I run around the machine and then back onto the pad for the second pause.

A few friends of mine wave their hands in the air during CSFILSM... "can't stop fallin in love! *wave wave wave* tell me you will be true! *wave wave wave* forever darling!". It looks funny biggrin.gif I'd do that but CSFILSM is currently on my PA shitlist (5 greats so far...)

I usually bend backwards and smack the Down just before the gap in Dead End with my hand (ever notice how expert players NEVER seem to play this song? I suppose it's just that it doesn't have a lot going for it other than it's OMG NINE FEET)

DEAD END is fun. I play it all the time. And fail it everytime I play it on doubles. I always add steps in it on the three streams of streams

In songs that pause like HVAM or SS<3M, I yell "STOP!" really loud in the pause. I did this yesterday and scared the hell out of my friend.

Wow... last time I checked this thread was dead several months ago... oh well. laugh.gif

But as for some of the most recent additions... as far as I can tell, the infamous mumbling in DXY! is most definitely "Just disturb, guys" or something close to it. I like to yell STOP during freezes too, Kutimu is freakishly amazing, and just about EVERYBODY I know does some sort of pose at the beginning of Tsugaru.

And now that you mention it, I'm rather infamous myself for saying "here we go!" to the eight beat of songs right before a massive death run (i.e. the last three eight notes before the momentary pause in HVAM). I also aimlessly point and gesture with my hands while dancing to something fun but not too tough.

my sister says that i always bend my wrist back whenever i do a song that requires alot of concentration and she also says that on cant stop fallin in love speed mix my body from the waist up stays completely parallel with the screen during the crossovers while my legs are moving. and ive noticed that i play on my toes, not with my whole foot. i can move alot faster that way.

Healing Vision: In the very beginning when its really slow i jump on the top and left arrow repeatedly.

Sandstorm: there's one part when you have to cross your feet on a freeze arrow and instead of crossing my feet, I use my hand.

R3: on heavy when it gets really boring like all it is, is left right, then up down over and over, I tend not to look at the screen.

Kakumei: in the beginning before the song even starts I do the first couple steps, then people think i'm wierd for knowing the steps.

Sakura: will be the first 10 i ever pass weather i die or not!!!

I always have to put songs on 1.5 unless the speed is 300 or more

And I always have to hold on to the bar unless its standard or lower (bad balance)

On Sakura on the freeze i always crouch down

On tsugaru in the background video when they have that weird guy swing his head around i do that with my hair

and on matsuri japan i yell go like half way thru it i forget cuz i haven't played in forever but you know

that's it for me
