I wasn't really sure where to put this one, so I figured this was the best fit. Feel free to move it as needed.

Anyway, I finally decided to make an Xbox to USB cable for the sole use of playing stepmania with my Red Octane Dual Platform pad... the problem is, it doesn't work at all. I've successfully installed drivers to get my gamepad working... and it works perfectly. So, I plug in my dance pad, fire up StepMania.. and nothing happens. I finally pulled some advanced CS major stuff out of the back of my brain where it's been gathering dust for a year or so and started checking to see if the pad was even detected, or if it was purely a driver issue. I used a program called USBVIEW, under which the standard Xbox controller shows up as a "Generic USB Hub" with a device (the gamepad itself) connected. The other 2 ports on the hub are the mem card ports. I unplug it, and plug in the dance pad... nothing. It doesn't even show up as being a connected device. My question is why? The cable obviously works... the pad works on my Xbox... I'm at a loss here. Has anyone else successfully gotten an xbox pad to work with a PC? All I can figure out is that maybe it has something to do with me using a dual platform pad.

There's a special driver you have to install to get Xbox controllers to work on a PC. You can find it at http://www.xbox-scene.com/ - Look under the Tools menu.

if the device doesn't show up to the computer, all the drivers in the world aren't going to fix it.

then Id have to go with a faulty usb adapter, because I have 2 diff adapters I made and they both work perfectly, I use the XBCD (Xbox Controller Driver) for both of my pads, and they both work awesome with no delays.

If it's faulty, then it wouldn't work...

Regardless, I found out that the problem is my pad. I've been looking around and apparently anyone trying to do this with a dual platform pad has the same issue. However it detects which system it's plugged into... well it isn't working with just the USB port for some reason. My guess is that it's not getting enough power for some reason, but I'm not about to go applying extra voltage just to see what happens.

Well I wasnt sure by gamepad if you ment a gamepad that was ment for the pc or if you ment an XBOX gamepad pluged into your adapter. Just make your own xbox cbox from a soft pad, it solves all the problems E1.gif

I thought about that, but the problem is that I'm using a soft pad... it's an Ignition 2.0

I'm not really comfortable tearing the thing open and wiring up extra crap to it if it's working perfectly. I'm seriously beginning to wonder whether it'd even be worth it to buy one of the xbox adapters that you plug into using the standard xbox plugs. Maybe it would handle whatever voodoo is required to get this thing working in xbox mode.

Since it's one of the Dual Platform Editions, you might want to try making an adaptor for the PS2 side?

I know I had a multi-console S-Video adaptor that would default to PS connection if you had multiple consoles attached. I don't know how that works, but it's worth a shot, right?

I have the same controller, the RedOctane Dual Platform Ignition for my Stepmania, and I use a generic USB adaptor, and it seems to work fine for me.

Or, conversely, try making a serial adaptor instead. I used that with my OLD soft pads, one I made myself, but to be honest, I haven't tried it with my new Ignition, which I LOVE, BTW.

I can't remember where I found the diagrams to make my serial adaptor, but they've gotta be around somewhere.

Good Luck.

I use the dual ignition with a super joy box 11 converter and the XBCD drivers and have never run into a problem. The converter was only like $17.
