i believe CF is coming out with a adapter for the control box of CF pads so that you can use them in Xboxes. i don't know when exactly they're comin out though but check their site for more info.

Well...speaking of adapters, I just purchased the RO metal pad earlier and was also considering getting an adapter. I'm talkin' about the PSx/PS2 USB adapter. I'm wonderin' if anyone that has one, has had any problems with them (like ghost steppin' and shortages). Please inform me of anything that may change my thoughts on getting one. *Not to be used for SM*......lol

The CF, currenly, has no native support for Xbox. They've said they're working on an Xbox compatible control box, but they've also said they don't know when it will be done.

But there are a few options available to those who wish to use a CF with Ultramix:

- Use a PS2 -> Xbox converter ... The $13 Game Elements converter works great. Only downsides are that your pad will show up as a controller on Xbox Live and that the corners of the pad will not be automatically disabled while playing a song (there will be a manual switch for this in the Ultramix 2 options).

- Buy a RedOctane control box, build a converter cable so you can use it with the CF ... Again, your pad will show up as a controller in Xbox Live since the RO cbox doesn't register as a pad. And you'll still have the corners problem. But this route provides you with a fairly solid control box that will work well with USB converters should you ever wish to go the StepMania route. (The CF v2.0 cboxes have issues with various USB converters juding by their forums.)

- Build an Xbox control box using an Xbox Live compatible soft pad ... This gives you Live pad recognition and disables corners automatically. But it's a good bit of work, especially if you don't regularly mess with electronics. Check my sig for a How-To link.

Hopefully, CF will get an Xbox cbox out before the end of the year, but they've made no public statements about progress. Everything we know about it comes from e-mail sent to individual users as query responses.

Well yesterday my soft pad finally broke disgust.gif so I'm going to be getting a metal pad biggrin.gif Right now I plan on buying one off Ebay, since I usually get great deals there. I typed in metal dance pad, and there were quite a few different pads. My price range is up to $150, so here are a few that I am intereste in:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21185&item=8129787163&rd=1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21188&item=8130020036&rd=1

Which one of those is better, and would they require a lot of modding? erm.gif

the first one for sure. some reasons why:

1. the second one has hard acrylic plastic for arrows. those will crack very easily and you will probably have to replace them in less than 2 weeks of use. look for metal pads with polycaronate arrows.

2. the second one charges 72 bucks shipping where as the first charges 40. the second one is 3 inch thick though so it has a reason.....still shipping is way too much for it

3. the second one is 3 inch. thick. no one needs that much thickness, in fact i still don't know why they make em that thick unless u want to use a bar....which still doesn't work even with the heavier pad.

if you want to get a pad off of ebay try to get ones at 100 dollars. lots of manufacturers have fair quality DDR pads with buy it nows for 97 bucks or sumthin with 40 dollars shipping. those in my opinion are the best deals on ebay for DDR pads....unless you find a random guy who's selling a used CF or RO. then i'd check with the people here about the quality of the used pad.

Sigh... they both suck E10.gif. I have the second one, and modded arrows = a better experience (see Ps2Freak for the mod...)

But if u dont wanna mod, the first one is better.

I'm still gathering materials too build my own... it'll own so much happy.gif

My friend has had a Buy N Shop metal pad for several months now, and one of the arrows just recently cracked. Is there anything he can do to fix the arrow? He's said that he's not sure what he can do because the arrow has part of the sensor attached right to it. Is there a way to reconstruct an arrow that doesn't involve anything too complicated such as sodering? Is having a crack that much of a problem even? Thanks.

If im not mistaken, BNS used the aluminum foil, copper contact system right? There should only be 1 actual acrylic piece, but it should be followed with some insulation tape, then 2 strips of aluminum foil to complete the circuit.

It should be able to use the CG mod, where you go out and buy a new piece of acrylic (preferably lexan) and then cut it up to fit in there. But instead of using a skinnier insulation tape deal, just use the 1/2 inch thick one. That way it wont have to sink as far to hit the copper contact.

If they use sheet metal systems now, im not sure, but u can just get a new piece of sheet metal/acrylic and replace what they did, and then solder the directional arrow contact into the sheet of metal.

home depot sells sheets of acrylic. Get poly carbonated or better. You can ask them if they'll cut it for u, or u can cut it urself.

Alright I'm definately going to get a mymybox metal pad biggrin.gif but I have a few questions/concerns

1. I am going to use it on an Xbox. Is the pad compadible with a PS2 > Xbox adaptor, and where can I find the best adaptor online?

2. I saw the modding mymybox page, and was wondering if it is necessary to do both the modifications? erm.gif

My advice would be to stay away from the pads with rape bars on them. The weight distribution has been announced many times on here before. I'd say unless you have something big behind you, then you're goin' for a ride! Also from the looks of it, it reminds me of the awfully cheap ones sold on Ebay...

The pad is supposed to be poly-carbonate and not acrylic. Although the sensors are the aluminum and copper contact system. Anything that should be done different?

Also, my friend really doesn't want to have to do any soldering, so is there perhaps an easier fix? Thanks.

Those pads blow. They make them all thick and poopy to make you think there awesome. Then they add a bar for noobs to think its "the pad" that they need. Bottom line is it's crap.

Final thought on buying metal pads. Buy RO or CF, and your set. End.

As for the BNS- you could cut urself a polycarbonated arrow (or u can get lexan, which is a lot stronger, and will never break)

If your BNS uses 2 sheets of acrylic, put 2 in there, and sandwich a step arrow graphic between the 2 of them. You can go to Kinkos and get one printed full size for not too bad of a price.

If it uses only 1 acrylic arrow, and then has some black stuff on the bottom of it + aluminum foil, all u need to do is cut one sheet of acrylic, then put some insulation tape under it that is the same size of the others, and then add 2 strips of aluminum foil. Just basically copy the other arrows.
