Anyway, I don't feel like getting into the debate of "which genre is better", because they both require a CERTAIN amount of skill to be good at them. I just don't think that a person should be respected ENTIRELY because of his skills on something.

I rarely see people play doubles at my arcade (prolly cuz they dont wanna put their $$). When some body does 8 feet or more on doubles it almost always makes a scene.

also, I disagee. doubles is defanately harder, but im sure that if you play it a lot you can be better on double than single

I really want to learn doubles, but I can't really, don't own any home ver, so I only can practice at the arcades. But if you want to see RESPECT, look at IIDX doubles (forget what it's called). Now THAT'S hard.

I play doubles, I'm up to 7 and 8 footers now, and I don't think doubles players get enough respect. I was at an arcade and a dude was doin doubles, like 8 or even 9s, and he was awesome. AAs and As. I was just watchin in awe, cuz I know what its like. People kept comin up to me and were like "dude, thats nuthin. He's just showin off." I couldn't believe them, I had to reply with "man, do you know how hard that is? I have been trying that, and its freaking hard." He's just like "yeah ok, w/e, it's not really that hard."

It's just people like that, singles and doubles, that make me mad. Of course, when my friends come over and I show them doubles, they like it! lol, so that's great.

I love the doubles play more, if I even try to play singles I'm glad to pass the easy stuff I suck at singles play.

Evey time I start a doubles session I get the big crowds I just wish they or even some of them would play after I'm done I don't like it when I put up a good effort just to see everyone disperse after I'm done.

¿AL? Goes back to his DDR machine... start buttons!

I take it you don't play fighting games, because if you did, you would know it's much more than manipulating a joystick. In fighting games, you have to not just beat your opponent, you have to outsmart him/her too. You have to set up traps, anticipate, even guess what your opponent is going to do. You actually have to think while manipulating a joystick as you put it.

In DDR, you don't have to think. You just listen to the music and step on the arrows. No faking out opponents and all that jazz, just you, the music, and the arrows.

wow.... just wow... judging from how your a trick member on a DDR forum, I can only assume that you play DDR, please correct me if I'm wrong but not anybody can just stand up and AAA a heavy, let alone anything on doubles. I'd respect anybody that I could see do that stuff (as long as they weren't cocky jerks...) but, forgetting you....

Yes, I play the stupid arrow stomping game, just like how I play the stupid key smashing game, the stupid drum game, the stupid keyboard game, and the stupid guitar game.

And your're right, not anybody can just AAA a song on heavy, BUT, if you see that sort of thing all the time on both single AND double, after a while, it would just be like seeing a rice rocket on the street. It was cool to see them every now and then, but then after a while, it was like whatever.
Must you suck all the fun out of the game? People work REALLY hard to AAA songs, play doubles really well, and just accomplish what seems near impossible. Have you no respect for their time and effort? You should stop commonplacing people's accomplishments, because you're disrespecting their effort and their ability.

I agree, doubles is really hard. I saw a guy play at the arcade once and he was really good. But I don't think he got the respect that he deserved. Granted, I don't think the people watching even knew what DDR was... The thing that makes doubles so hard is the double and triple steps between the two pads. People may not think it is that hard just watching someone play, I think those people should try for themselves.

You don't see too many doubles players in the UK, mainly because it costs an insane amount: 2 credits at £1 each = nearly $4. The only reason I'm any good at doubles is because (a) I learned on a 50p Joint Premium machine ($1/cr JP, which is the cheapest machine in the UK) and (b) I have two metal mats at home and in one of the very rare periods I could actually make use of them I whored Doubles mode like crazy.

The thing about Doubles is it is well and truly an afterthought on DDR... which is a real shame. Think about it, it wasn't until 3rd Mix that you even got Maniac Doubles steps. That and doubles steps for everything before 5th mix is usually unflowing garbage. Tried Dam Dariram or Captain Jack HD recently? They're hard but certainly not fun, double and triple steps all over the show. By contrast Max and up has some wonderful charts though: Do You Remember Me Heavy Double is the most beautiful chart ever, although it's a cata on Doubles so it is quite hard.

Add to that that there isn't much of an arcade culture in the UK beyond bloody slot machines (they're legal here, EVERY single pub has at least two), arcade owners can get away with being money grubbing bastards. They set the machines to whatever will fail the most people per hour, and Joint Premium to them gets a response like "I suppose you want me to put it on Free Play as well while I'm at it?", (nevermind that JP goes over most noob players' heads and they put in 2cr for Versus ANYWAY)

I would probably play more doubles if it was at all affordable, but it's really nasty to PA on and I'm mostly a PA player. Yea, I'm boring I know but nothing beats seeing AAA come up biggrin.gif

It's the way it should be. I beleive that double is a peak that people do notattempt. It is so complex that they totally take it off the scale of prowess.

The normal way of thinking is that if you get great in single... you get good in double. I would like you to know it is a lie. Let me tell you how different double is...

You know how you are good in DDR. How you can read any arrow and step[ to the pattern? Remember when you first saw PSMOni's death run? Remember when you were so lost you felt like a flat out n00b because you'd never seen a combination of arrows that way?

Thats the feeling you get on doubles.

Double players have my respect, BUT if you're REALLY daring, play VERSUS by yourself! This one guy at arcade does it! it's crazy, man!

I bet he only does light-easy standard songs, otherwise he'd fail on jumps like Drop Out or MaxX std.

Doubles is fun and cool to watch, but I'm so horrible at it... Haha, I can pass pretty much all the 8-footers and I'm working on passing some 9's, but I can barely even do Light on Doubles. I need to practice it some more, though, I do enjoy it.

Yeah, I play that here in PA. I'm the only one in my area who will even attempt it. I started playing PVBY(playing vs by yourself) back before our 4th mix got upgraded to an 8th.

I was tired of people talking about AAA's so I wanted to get something nobody has ever gotten before and I did it on silent hill light, a Quad A.

A Quad A is when you get a AA on both sides of the pad, it's difficult to get and i'm sure some one out there may have gotten a AAA on both sides of the pad on PVBY.

I'll post a video of myself getting a Quad A as soon as I can find someone to film it for me. I did beat all of the MAX's on PVBY Light and PS270 light too.

Here are some pics of some of my scores, i've gotten better since then.

My name is rob and it in these Pics 7,8,9,10,11,12,13 and 16. Enjoy!

for the most part, doubles players are respected more by those who understand how much skill it takes to play doubles well. there are still a few that just say "its just like singles with two pads" lol. they make me laugh.

Well, I don't think doubles players deserve anymore respect than singles players. It just depends on which mode of play you play more often. I suck at doubles so when someone plays doubles and does good, I'm like "wow". But when people that suck at PA see me play, they are impressed. It depends on what kind of mindset you have about the game. Some people like to look cool when they play *Freestylers*. Some people like to make the screen look cool when they play *PAers*. For the most part, Doubles players are Freestylers. I know maybe one person who plays doubles for PA but he mostly plays Singles. I guess I should improve at doubles.

for me I do respect doubles players, that's if...they're not cocky about their skills...other than that I would have respect for doubles players...

corporatesatan> Yes, I have done an AAA on both sides playing Versus by myself.

For reference:
http://www.aaroninjapan.com/images/aaronaaawwwbglvs.jpg

Good fun to play that way though, isn't it?

On topic, though, in terms of "respect", I don't see why a person playing on singles is any different than playing on double (as a person), but different skills are required to play doubles. Also, in some cases, the double version of a song is noticably harder than the single counterpart (i.e. Sobakasu, It's Raining Men, Highs Off U, and of the Club Mix Songs, etc.), thought the opposite case also exists (check out Electro Tuned, The Reflex for example) Some people don't realize this. Sometimes when I used to include my doubles AAAs in my total count, people would accuse that of being "Cheap". Honestly, are people saying that an AAA on Cutie Chaser Morning Mix Single is more "worthy" to count than Captain Jack, Cartoon Heroes, La Senorita Virtual, Yozora no Mukou, etc. on Double?
