Maybe they don't... maybe they do... And what if they do? I don't see this as bad. Some people like freestyles, some people don't. It's like saying that contestants in a dancing competition show off because they pull off amazing stunts.

Anyways, in my view, showing off isn't bad at all. If you can pull the stunt, pull it. You can show off what you can do without being obnoxious about it. As Kid Rock would say, it ain't bragging if you can back it up.

If you want to stereotype and be ignorant, then yes, we freestyle just to show off.

Freestyle, showoff...same thing.
You can't help it because of the way the game is setup i.e. you are playing in front of a crowd whether it's FS or PA.
Wouldn't a person full comboing be considered showing off as well? To me it can.

I agree with 8-ball.People call me a show off when I C** a song and end it with a 180 degree turn if the song has a double step at the end.

I was doing some freestyling in the arcade and this punk comes up
behind me and said right in my face while i was dancing "you show
off i will challenge you" i was like whoaa chill out chillbert. I dont get
it dude they say your showing off if you freestyle...to me its a style
just like how poeple who do steps hold on to the bar its a style i mean
i pratice and work hard at them and i can only pratice in the arcades
my DDR pad sucks so i never do it at home. so would guys count
me as a show off? or just a freestyler doing what he likes

It depends... If you just do like a turn and that's it , I call it showing off, because they are trying to get attention for something they obviously aren't good at. but if you play a whole song backwords or something(which seems to be popular at my arcade), then you aren't really showing off, you're just taking the fun out of DDR (IMO)

This is just like asking the question "are double players showoffs?" as the past few posts said...its just a style of playing...

I'd say no because it's there style of play. It's more considered 'dancing' that way too.

I once saw this guy doing butterfly on heavy and he was soo bad at freestyling. He was stomping on the arrows like as if they were completly not responding (they worked fine btw) and when he was trying to freestyle, he missed like 15 arrows, it was pretty funny. I thought HE was a showoff, but freestylers in general aren't. It really depends how they act. I mean, if someone is looking around, wondering if they have an audience, then try really hard to look cool, when they look like an idiot, yes, that is a bad showoff, but if you've got the talent, then show it off E10.gif

I look around to see if the audience isn't looking at me, cause when I do look like an idiot, nobody will point and laugh at me. Which makes me feel so much better inside and out and makes me want to continue with my horrible 4-song set. E1.gif

Cheers!

i think when most poeple freesyle they dont do it to showoff but to have some fun while there playing. but if they are showing off i dont see that as a bad thing. poeple who can freestyle are extremely talented and they do have the right to "showoff" or showcase there moves. plus when poeple freestyle large crowds usualy gather making it easy to showoff and the poeple who are watching enjoy the showcase of danceing talent. so showoff or not it doesnt realy matter as long as they have fun during the gameplay.

plus...........if i could freestyle i would showoff too. E15.gif laugh.gif

Here's a better question: Why do you play DDR? Do you play to showoff? Because it's fun? Friend got you into it? And why do you think us FS'ers are showoffs? Because we do something you can't do? That's what it seems like to me. So what if someone plays a song that you can't do. You think he's just showing off he can pass the song? Doesn't that sound stupid? I can't believe there's actually people who think like this...But then again, yea I can. World's a pretty fucked up place. blink.gif

It's ONLY bragging if you can back it up. If what you're saying isn't true then you are just a liar not a braggart.

I assume he doesn't want to be ignorant which is why he asked the question. But if you want to get all defensive, oh wait.

Why are you guys so angry? I don't think he could've made a less threatening statement. He asked a question and stated his opinion, which obviously wasn't set in stone in the first place. Perhaps the FS players in his area are a bunch of cocky jerks and are show-offs.

As for the topic, I think it really depends on your state of mind. If you're playing to have fun and/or entertain a crowd then you aren't, and if you're doing it just to humiliate the previous or other players, you're a show-off.

Well dancing has ever and will ever be a form of showing off in front of a crowd. In a game that tries to imitate the form of dancing it's hard not to show off, freestyle, getting technical, and so on. If you are afraid of showing off in DDR, well you're just playing the wrong game.

That's your opinion on the matter. But not mine... let me explain...

If you "brag" about something you can do, and that you actually do what you "bragged" about, then you didn't brag, you just stated a fact and proved it afterwards. And if that person can't back it up, then yes, he/she is a liar, but also a braggart, nontheless.

Just thought I'd clear that up... but hey! That's just my opinion on the matter. You do whatcha want with it, I won't lose any sleep over that.
