Just keep playing. Your progress at 2 months sounds above average as it is. |

yeah...I'm trying to make my first AAA be a song like R3, I can get pretty close now. The parts your talking about i'd say just let go, like if you try to think too hard you'll start treating them as gallups or go too fast. I notice that I sometimes will be able to go without any greats in that part, but sometimes if I think too hard I mess up |

yeah, heres what I suggest
develop different styles depending on the song, on something that you never have to double step at all, for reasons of keeping your PA high, I would keep your feet high up.
The only time you really have to do what you are talking about is a situation where you need to do a double step. Don't underestimate the power of just sliding and not even bothering lifting your entire foot off the pad.
Eventually you get to the point where you know how much to lift it on a given set up steps, I personally only use that sort of style when I'm doing a really quick song and I can't turn/crossover it |

Sorry to be vague right now, but I'll post more tomorrow.
Anyways, I've been playing DDRMAX2 for the PS2 for 7 months, and I've been stuck in 4-5 footer songs for about 5 or 6 moths. I am becoming extremely frustrated, and thinking about just giving up on this game.
So, do you guys have any general tips to help me get out of this rut? _________________

More practice . Um, try some songs to learn different movements, patterns, etc. 4-5 footers seems to be standard, and the transition to heaving can be difficult. Dream A Dream, Days Go By, Shining Polaris, Heaven, and--I think there are a few others--are pretty good to start off with for heavy mode. Also, I don't think they are 4-5 footers. That's all that I can think of for right now :/
Also, can we get some more information? It's vague to see 4-5 footers. That gives us a nice general idea, but what about which songs give you problems? Do you have problems with speed/crossing over/stamina/reading arrows? Do you use any mods when playing? Any informatino would greatly improve the advice you get from us . Thanks, and hope to be able to further help out.

If you dont have any problems using a speed mod, then I'd suggest using one for the 1/8th notes.

I am currently a Maniac player ( Working on SOME Catas, So Deep...)
and I have a tip for all those people screwing up on songs like Matsuri Japan Maniac, My Generation Maniac, true...Trance Sunrise Mix Maniac, you know...THOSE steps...The steps that look really difficult, like a 1/4th step mixed with a gallop.
This is my tip: Skip.
Skip like a fekkin' ( yes, I really said " fekkin'". ) PANSY!
Along with really getting into the music, when those steps come up, try to skip twice and step, skip twice, step...
This may take a while to practice, but it's very fun once you get the hang of it.
^__^ For those who this doesn't work with, you can always try step once, gallop, step, gallop, step, gallop method. -_- I like to skip, though.

You could always try on 2x. I can read up to 3x, but I've hurt my 1x reading skills . Anyway, 2x might help if you can read at that speed. If you are scrambling all over, then it might be a timing/cordination thing. I'd suggest going into training mode and putting the assist trick on 4, and then slowing down the song with a speed mod. That way, you can hear when you should be stepping, and then being able to react and hit the arrows. With improvement, speed up the song until you've got it down and repeat until you've reached normal speed. Setting the speed down to 3 is pretty good, and then moving to 4, and then finally 5.
Um, if you can hit the steps fine and can read well--but timing is off--then I'd suggest that you put on just the assist trick on number 4 and then go through the song (listening) once. Then go back and try playing with the assist trick on.
As for other advice, I can't think of anything at the moment, but I'll try to post back with anything else that I can think of. I hope that helps
Shadow_Dragonz
P.S. Don't fret if you don't get it the first time. I'm sure you'll eventually get it if it doesn't come right off the bat the first time. _________________

My advice is not to play a song 14 times in a row... it just leads to frustration and discouragement.
In general, just be patient. You've only been playing for a month. Your skills will continue to improve, and fairly soon you'll look back and be amused that you once had trouble with songs like these. Keep in mind that improvement comes over *time*, not just *time spent practicing*. |

Hi Everyone
Im looking for ddrfreaks willin to chat or practice. I'm 21 and live in the North San Diego area, I have been playing since 2001. There are a few standards left for me to beat (max 300, unlimited) and I have passed a small handful of heavies (butterfly, ordinary world, era, dive). I play whenever possible, which is two or three times a week. Im looking for freaks to practice with or just tips on how to break out of standard. Really just any ddr dialogue. I hope to hear your reply.
happy stomping! |

I hate to be a butt, but that is off topic .
Anyway, 2 things. Are there any things that you are looking for improvement that we could help? The second is that I'd like to help out and play in person, but I live up in Chico, so I can't. Sorry.

I was stuck at 5-easy6 footers for several months, too. Bizarrely enough, I stopped playing for a month or so because of a stress fracture in my foot (which was likely DDR-induced!), and when I started again, I started passing 7s. And I just passed my first 7 in the arcade (where I am not nearly as good, as I'm used to my ignitions), as well as my first 8 (the Kind Lady challenge remix on MAX2US).
Biggest thing that helped me get out of some ruts: playing doubles, which gets you used to weird positions, and watching people better than me play/playing alongside them. That helped with the rhythm and body position. The other big sticking point was foot speed on some moves, which just eventually came with practice and a healed foot. Learn to BS those sequences until the speed comes (even if you can't move quite that fast, you'll probably get goods at the least, and not fail, and eventually you'll get past some sequence like that and realize your combo is still going). |

If you need a refresher on the songs in DDRMAX2, the difficulty level, and the foot rating, check out this link.

Shadow_Dragonz wrote: | It's vague to see 4-5 footers. I can do every single song on light mode, except for a few of the ones on 5 feet and all the ones on 6 feet. The ones I can't do in light mode are PARANOiA (KCET CLEAN MIX), SP-TRIP MACHINE (JUNGLE MIX), and MAXX UNLIMITED.

I can read the arrows just fine because I can do just about all the standard songs on the controller. I don't use any mods.

I didn't know that you weren't on heavy mode. Sorry about that. But when you get there, those should be the easiest, or at least I think so. As for Paranioa -KCET- and SP-Trip Machine--Just keep practicing. I'd think it would be a speed problem, with maybe stamina. Those take time to build up. Some people are faster than others, but either way it does take some time. You can always do the training mode too, to slow it down so you can pass the song, and then up it.
As for MaxX, to be honest, I would let that one be for a little bit. That might be something you'd want to go back on when you can do standard: To go back to light mode MaxX. Then when you can do heavy, to go back to MaxX standard. As for the heavy mode Oo...I don't have any advice. I'm still working on that one .
Crossing over. Well, the best advice other than practicing them is to watch other players. If you don't know any better players in your area, down load some of the videos from the video forum link.
I think that it's great that you can read at 1x speed. Personally, I wish I could still do that well but can't. Right now I'm trying to re-learn how to read @ 1x, and it's frustrating . Yeah, off tangent, but if you can keep that up, props 2 you . Oh, and good luck w/the progress. Make sure you have fun too

Quote: | Play with other people. Make friends. The more people you know and like, the more likely you are to play. Extra playtime means extra practice, which is good for you. Of course, when you play with other people, you are bound to play songs that you normally would not choose for yourself, which will allow you to get used to reading the arrows.

Such good advice. I got this game a while ago and now I have 2 friends who play it regularly (they own the game), and I have a few friends who are saving up money to buy it. Viva la friends! |
