I'm thinking of asking for a metal pad for my birthday. As I'm completely, utterly, hopelessly technologically inept, I really don't want one that I have to modify in any way, since I'd probably break it by doing so. I could probably ask for any one that's in between 150-250 dollars. What would you guys suggest?

in that price range you won't be able to get a no modification needed ever pad. the only that fits that bill is the Cobalt Flux pad, which is 300 dollars, around 340 with shipping. so unless you can up ur price range 100 bucks i'd go with the RO like Max said. it's not so bad a pad. actually second best. you might have to mod it a little bit though. but don't worry. you won't break it....hopefully. just make sure u keep all the screws and brackets in a place u know is safe when u take it apart and be careful about everything you do. RO pads have the sheet metal contacts so you don't need to do that mod....that's good i guess. so the only time you'll need to open up the pad is if malfunctions come up or a screw comes loose or sumthing. nothin big.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh and as for Max, i can't make the arrows give more...but i can raise the copper contacts so that u have less distance between the contacts. this can work...and it can fail horribly causing hours of work to be wasted. riiight.gif unfortunately i don't have the link to the page with the mod. it's got something to do with virginia plumbing foam or sumthing? it's somewhere on this thread....maybe vsamaco can help me with this one.....
i'm just wondering
when you say really hard to you mean stomping on the arrows? or playing a lot. if u stomp on the arrows too hard there is a slim chance you could crack the arrows, but that's about it. if u play a lot chances are after 3 months or so the pad will get less sensitive because copper residue will get onto the sheet metal contact and cause the contacts to have less area to touch and send the signal for a complete step. all you have to do to fix this though is open the pad and wipe the contact with a cloth or sumthin like that.
i dont' really have an answer to ur need for more pad sensitivity except for the mod i suggested earlier. sorry...
yeah. But still it isnt Crack-proof... its just really hard to crack. It could crack if u bash it with a hammer (note that hammer takes pressure and puts a lot of it in a really small spot, unluck the bigger surface area of a foot) and crack that bad boy up, but you dont have to.
BTW- im guessing thats not his metal pad. For 1, who puts a FISH on there metal pad.
for 2. it looks very skinny.
3. I own you.
u got an 80 dollar pad and had to pay 160 overall?!?!? that's like 80 bucks shipping! where'd u get it from? overseas or sumthin?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

yeah i think i've finally figured out a rule for me related to buying pads

if u have less that 150 bucks on hand, get a DX soft pad. they seem to last longer than the low class metal pad, don't slip at all, and are the same price. well...the most expensive soft amounts to the cheapest metal.

if u have 250 or more get a metal pad specifically RO or CF. anything below that has about a 50/50 chance it won't last the lifetime you could expect from a metal pad. overall though the CF is absolutely the best choice for a dedicated DDR fan. it will most likely last the span of your liking or ability to do DDR and then some so when you think about it a 100 dollars more than the second leading brand of DDR pad but twice as good isn't too bad of a deal.

as for those in between the 150 and 250+ ranges.......you can have the choice of either buying a DX soft pad and saving the extra cash for something else you'd like...mayb a DDR game (ANYONE ON THIS FORUM WHO DOESN'T GET DDR EXTREME MUST DIE!!! (hypothetically speaking that is....riiight.gif) or anything else you'd like, or you can save up even more and eventually get a metal pad that will last you a very long time. the choice pretty much depends on your money amount and your dedication to DDR.

this is all just in my opinion though. I'm open to flames and stuff so go ahead.

When people say that the RO pads are arcade like, do you mean that the arrows are lower than the rest of the pad? Are the BNS pad arrows lowered also?

RO's arrow is not really that lowered, it's about the same height as the metal pad itself.

Okay,Im gonna make a small poll now.I need to know a good metal pad before April 2nd,2005.Ive heard lots about different pads,but Ive narrowed it down to 2:

Ped Octane one with no rape bar

BNS metal one without rape bar

Now,Im asking the users of these pads to answer here in this form.Use color code when telling me,like red for RO and cyan for BNS.

all pads are around 40 lbs. and they all have a shipping cost of around 40 bucks not 80. who sold you this pad anyway? was it a random seller on Ebay or a known seller of DDR pads like Judysdeals?

i don't think any pad has lowered arrows. the CF is bascially a super flat pad though.....

You do know that Cobalt Fluxes are better quality, have a longer warranty, are so sensitive a fly could play, and Red Octane doesn't have free shipping? Get your facts straight.

I KNOW THAT CF IS MUCH BETTER THAN RED OCTANE BUT DO YOU SEE IT THERE?!?! I think he just doesn't have the cash for a CF right now but he does for a RO.

oh and about ur "RO doesn't have free shipping" thing.....check it out here: http://redoctane.com/redoctanemetalpad.html

free shipping baby!!! too bad it's a limited time offer.....of course most "limited time offers" last a loooooong time unless it's percentage discounts. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT ^^
