start select up isn't required for EMS USB2 just so you know.

it's possible (likely even) that your adapter just died (mine did a few weeks ago E2.gif). would you be able to try it out on a different computer? laptops are almost always crappy with adapters anyway, so there may be some sort of incompatibility with the power needed to run your pad and the amount that can be supplied by the laptop through its USB port.

I got my superjoy box(1 slot, red addapter) and it works great with my RO metal pad/ super old computer. I whould suggest this for people who have a BNS or RO metal pad because they work great.

He does, but it's useless with a Cobalt Flux and RedOctane's Ignition 2.0.

that's odd...it'll work with a RO metal pad but not an ignition 2.0...must be a different circuit board. I'll make sure to update with that later.

I can confirm that the SmartJoy PLUS does NOT work with Cobalt Fluxes...or Ignitions...i.e. none of the pads you SHOULD buy.

Posted that last page, did you miss it, Syncog? E15.gif

no, I got it just fine biggrin.gif

I just have been a bit busy with college stuff. I'll update tomorrow or something...sometime between getting out of class and getting killed by this next hurricane.

my shock comes from the fact that it works fine with older ignitions (or worked...it's possible that they changed the smart joy plus too). I'll make sure to note that it is confirmed as not working with RO Ignition 2.0 or CF, but working with RO metal pads.

I remember hearing a while back that Radio Shack adapters actually could work perfectly if you used a program called PPJoy with it, which allows you to remap buttons and axis. Is this true, and if so how can you configure it to work right?

I haven't heard that one before. if you know where to get the program I'll try it out with one of my radioshack adapters (yeah, I was a n00b once...). I seriously doubt it will work though. it's a hardware problem with the adapter and it would be quite a feat to override the built in drivers to a USB device like that one.

It seems like with as many issues as people have had with Radio Shack adapters, it would be more worthwhile to just order one that works than to try and find a work-around (unless of course you already have the adapter).

I don't know as much about adapters as Sync (who is the god of all things adapter), but I would be inclined to say it's just not worth it.

read the first page. or go to stepmania.com and read their adapter list...from personal experience, the super dual box and the EMS USB are the best. read the FAQ on the first page of the thread to see how to work them.

well, like an idiot, I posted in the console forum without looking here first... since that'll be locked fairly soon I imagine, I'll just paste it here.

I finally decided to make an Xbox to USB cable for the sole use of playing stepmania with my Red Octane Dual Platform pad... the problem is, it doesn't work at all. I've successfully installed drivers to get my gamepad working... and it works perfectly. So, I plug in my dance pad, fire up StepMania.. and nothing happens. I finally pulled some advanced CS major stuff out of the back of my brain where it's been gathering dust for a year or so and started checking to see if the pad was even detected, or if it was purely a driver issue. I used a program called USBVIEW, under which the standard Xbox controller shows up as a "Generic USB Hub" with a device (the gamepad itself) connected. The other 2 ports on the hub are the mem card ports. I unplug it, and plug in the dance pad... nothing. It doesn't even show up as being a connected device. My question is why? The cable obviously works... the pad works on my Xbox... I'm at a loss here. Has anyone else successfully gotten an xbox pad to work with a PC? All I can figure out is that maybe it has something to do with me using a dual platform pad.

erm, anyone want to field this one? I haven't heard anything about XBox pads and adapter setups from anywhere. I don't use xbox pads either. It may be an incompatibility with the pad's wiring or a voltage problem. some pads just aren't recognized at all with some adapters.

well, it isn't exactly rocket science to make an xbox adapter.. take one of the breakaway ends off a dead controller (or buy a spare breakaway for $5), chop off the end, and wire it into a USB cable. If you use an actual microsoft cable, the wire colors even match. It took all of 5 minutes.

erm, yeah, I said that before to someone in this thread, but they freaked because the ignition they had didn't have the breakaway section, so they didn't want to ruin the pad. I'm aware of this technique though E13.gif

And a bit of extra clarification: XBox controllers are USB. Although it probably won't fit into the USB ports on your computer E13.gif

Im a little confused as to what your pointing out, nephus was right its just that easy to make an adapter and thats why you have to make the adapter because the plug on the xbox controller wont fit, then all you need is the XBCD file to install and it works perfectly, I use 2 xbox pads on my pc now. I think its the best way to get a pad on the pc seeing as its already a USB interface. I use my homebuilt metal pad with my homemade cbox from amadcatz xbox pad, and I also have a gamestop brand soft pad hooked up. Both work perfect with 0 delay.

Heyo E1.gif

well a few days ago i found out the magic of stepmania for the pc lol and as of today i have downloaded exactly 173 songs drool.gif .

today i went to the mall to pick up a PS to USB adapter and i found one. The adapter bran is "PSX to USB Game Adapter" its made by Radioshack. but there's only one problem. i have a Madcatz Beat Pad Pro that works for both Xbox and PS2. when i tried setting up the keys on stepmania, i dont get any response from my pad at all none.

my best guess is that the pad is dual platform so it creates a compatability issue, but thats just my guess...

if anyone had the same problem or knows of a solution i'd be eternally grateful for some help, thanks E4.gif
