I need a guide or diagram of how to solder to an Xbox Controller. I tried posting in the sticky on home built pads but I have not gotten any responses over the last 4 days even though I have brought up my question. So I NEED that guide, I have been waiting forever for a response to no prevail. Please help. |

What? Sk8Krux, I know how to solder, it's pretty simple, I just need to know what to solder to on the Xbox controller. I have seen instructions and diagrams for PS2 controllers, but the Xbox controller looks completely different inside. |

Really? I was told that you could. My old soft pad's connector broke and I don't want to go out and buy another one. I have already taken apart one of my old xbox controllers. Can someone please give a second opinion, because I don't know what to believe. |

If you want your pad to show up as a dancepad on Xbox Live, you need to use an Xbox dance pad and not a controller. _________________

Dude what the heck. I said nothing of xbox live. You just cant solder a xbox controller. You can use a control box of a xbox soft pad to make a xbox ddr home pad.

well in that case you could just solder to a playstation controller and use PS->XBoX adapter. since he doesn't care about xbox live, it won't matter if it shows up as a controller. problem solved. |

I can make a metal pad, and put the wires from that to an XBOX controller, that get soldered to. I Made a pressure sensitive pad, and for it to work i had to solder to an xbox controller...
In your first post, you basically said it is impossible to solder to an xbox controller. Grammer is god! _________________

I don't understand you Tomo. When you said grammar is god, you mispelled grammar. I laugh. Yeah, so I CAN solder to an Xbox controller. I am so confused! |

I didn't know that the Dpad was pressure sensitive. That is all I need and I don't really want to go through a PS2 to Xbox adapter because I have read that it causes a slight delay. So are you positive that it is impossible to solder to an Xbox controller? I hope that it isn't. I didn't know there was a thread on soldering to an Xbox controller. Please respond. |

It's a bit more involved, but just because the switches are analog doesn't mean you can't wire directly to them.
Think about how analog switches work - they have variable resistance based on how far down you have the button mashed. A digital switch just skips all the inbetween analog levels. You probably need to wire in a resistor to make the circuit work, but the fact that the buttons are analog doesn't mean squat.
And yeah, the D-pad works perfectly fine too. _________________

Do you mean that I do not need a resistor for the Dpad or what? Or do you mean that I need to wire the resistor to the Dpad too? Please clarify. |

There are only eight pressure-sensitive buttons on the Xbox controller - the six face buttons, and the two shoulder triggers. The Start/Back buttons are not analog, nor is the D-pad. Also, the depressing-action on the analog sticks is a digital response - on or off. _________________
