Locking Threads Instead Of Moving Them

This was brought to my attention because of the following thread:

In all reality, why wasn't it just moved instead of locked? Nothing against Phrekwenci(who is a hell of a moderator), but I'm just curious why it is that threads are being locked and told to be relocated instead of just being relocated without having to start a brand new thread for the same discussion.

We lock rather than moving because of a couple reasons.

A> Newer users wouldn't know where to go to find their thread if we moved it.

B> Shadow threads are a pain in the booty to delete on these forums.

C> The user will never learn where the appropriate forum is if they aren't forced to re-create the thread in the proper forum. They'll get into a habit of 'oh, I'll just put this here and a mod will move it for me if it's in the wrong place'.
