I respect double players more really, because they're out of the crowd, different... And usually better FSers.
I also respect the fact that a lot of the double players I know were grown on the arcade machines, paying twice as much for practice... I can't afford that.
Regardless, they're worth something. Doubles is harder than it looks... I've tried it, and I have a lot of fun on crappy basic courses, but throw me on a trick double and I'll squeal like a sissy.

I respect 6-Panel players more than Doubles. More people play Doubles than 6-Panel and I have actually never seen a person that plays 6-Panel besides myself. _________________

Thats because nobody plays solo games, and the solo machines tend to suck anyway, extremely rare machines... But yes, the players are rare... but the fact is, it's not availible everywhere and is definately easier than 8 panels. _________________

I do not respect doubles players at all. They show off and they are mean people....
; hehe, j/k
I know lots of doubles players and I really do enjoy watching them more than singles. But to say I respect them more would be misleading.
I know two really really good DDR players who go to my arcade. One is a singles player who can SDG nearly every <9 foot song and the other is a heavy-improv freestyle doubles player. I don't think I could say I respect one more than the other.

Yes, because the ability to stand in one place, hit buttons, and manipulate a joystick deserves far more repsect than any other gaming outing... |

of course doubles players are respected! that's almost like going beyond heavy. it's not easy to go back and forth between pads and keep the beat. a friend of mine is a doubles player and he plays on standard and heavy. that guy is MAD! @_@ it's amazing and everyone i know respects him for that. _________________

I personally respect doubles players more just because I'm so horrible at it. If they act arrogant though then I lose my respect for them. _________________

Hmmm, who do I compare them to? All of my friends (and definitely my team) play doubles. _________________

wow.... just wow... judging from how your a trick member on a DDR forum, I can only assume that you play DDR, please correct me if I'm wrong but not anybody can just stand up and AAA a heavy, let alone anything on doubles. I'd respect anybody that I could see do that stuff (as long as they weren't cocky jerks...) but, forgetting you....
doubles is fun I really could only do some light/easy standard songs but it was fun. doubles freestyle is probably better because of more variety but I havn't seen any. I'd like to _________________

People around here don't care if you're a Light/Heavy Singles/Doubles player. They just want you to hurry up and get done so they can get their turn. A few people might give you props at the end of your set, but it's not very likely.
Personally, I love watching Doubles players. It's nice to see a little bit of actual movement during the game. _________________

Double players have my respect...I only know one true double player...he's pretty good...not cocky and can pass some crazy stuff.
Also seeing a smooth doubles player is definitely eye candy and a crowd pleaser...not to mention the people that don't know how to play DDR...see lots of movement...then it's like (I HAVE TO WATCH!)
Respect definitely granted to doubles players.
I'd say more but the people above recapped everything very well.

No, I don't think DDR players should get respect just because they play it differently or something. I've been playing doubles for two, two and a half years, but people respect me for reasons outside of DDR.
Basically, doesn't matter if you play doubles or not. If you're a dick, then you're a dick. _________________

I take it you don't play fighting games, because if you did, you would know it's much more than manipulating a joystick. In fighting games, you have to not just beat your opponent, you have to outsmart him/her too. You have to set up traps, anticipate, even guess what your opponent is going to do. You actually have to think while manipulating a joystick as you put it.
In DDR, you don't have to think. You just listen to the music and step on the arrows. No faking out opponents and all that jazz, just you, the music, and the arrows.

Yes, I play the stupid arrow stomping game, just like how I play the stupid key smashing game, the stupid drum game, the stupid keyboard game, and the stupid guitar game.
And your're right, not anybody can just AAA a song on heavy, BUT, if you see that sort of thing all the time on both single AND double, after a while, it would just be like seeing a rice rocket on the street. It was cool to see them every now and then, but then after a while, it was like whatever. _________________

If you're just gonna rant on the thread, don't post in it. Your thread consists of respect to DDR players in general not doubles players as the title indicates.
My view (Doubles vs. Singles) is that if you're willing to pay more for doubles and RELEARN the game, then power to you. I know people who can pass PSMO and PSMO on doubles and being both a doubles and singles player, I'm more impressed by the Doubles player. |
