OK guys im making a riptide like pad, its using cheaper wood instead of pine plywood, and using cheap sheetmetal, It will also be 38x33 instead of 33x33 because i am adding the bar which i am making out of 2" diamiater pipe. Now my last question before i make this pad is can i only use 1 layer of lucite instead of 2? IF so how would it differ from 2 layers?

You mean I can't use it as just a controller (instead of taking apart one)?

But that might change now that I could be selling it to a friend...

And for the poster below, I also had some unanswered questions on the last page...I think. erm.gif But I don't think that matters anyway...

Yes you can use it as a controller. I lost the link sinistar posted somewhere for his poor mans controll box he made its essentially just the little box thats on the pad with a plug on it. But Im a neat freak I dont see the point it spending hours on end making a very nice awesome looking pad to make an eye sore controll box, thats my $.02.

And about the unanswered question I assume you mean the playstation->parallel adapter. I doesnt seem to be to good to be true. its just 2 plugs on a cable. Just like buying a psx entension cord.

Ok, I've got a problem with my Riptide pad I've made, and its frustrating cause it almost works, yet its so far away.

I used the mending brackets on top of screws for the wiring, and whenever i touch a pair of opposite brackets, it registers a button press in the game, so I know its all working right.

The problem is, the brackets are not perfectly level with eachother, so when I step on a button, it doesnt always register (actually, it only registers about once or twice in ten)

Does anyone know any simple, effective alternative to using the mending brackets? Or is there a way to compensate for the uneven-ness of the brackets I have?

I'm desperate here, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh this pad is going to be sweet. I barely have to pay a thing.

My dad can get 18 Guage Sheet Metal for free, so I want to know if that is too thick to use? Or can I at least use it in some places?

Plus I already have all the wiring, solder, and wood. All I need now is lucite, weatherstripping, and foam core. E4.gif

Well about the 18gauge sheet metal, thats QUITE a bit thicker then 26 gauge.... if I have free 18 gauge this is what I would do.... use the 18 gauge to wrap the 5 squares that arent buttons (just be sure to factor in the thickness of the sheet metal to make the squares 11"x11" AFTER they are wraped in the sheet metal. then I would buy a small sheet of 26 gauge for the buttons, because jumping from 26 gauge to 18 is a big step, and the buttons have 2 peices of 26 gauge in there, 2 peices of 18 is alot more space to take up in the space that the button has to function.

I've got an (almost done) Riptide myself, and I can see that this'll probably give me a few problems too. As it is, I've got two 1/4" washers under each bracket, but they're not all of uniform thickness. As well, I've got the position of the wood frame to contend with (one 2x4 may be higher than another).

Hmmm...probably the best way to fix it would be to add or remove washers from under the brackets. Get some 1/8" or 3/16" or so washers for fine adjustments. As well, try tightening or loosening the screws holding the brackets in place - perhaps all the brackets started out level, but became unlevel after screwing gouged some into the wood.

Lemme know how it turns out - I've gotta do probably the same thing over the next couple of days.

Can someone please post a guide to soldering to an xbox controller. It's all I have to do to finish my pad, and I can't wait. I just need a labeled picture from someone that has done it before at the least.

I have been waiting for you to take a picture of this and send it to me. It really isn't that much more difficult than that of a PS controller. It really is as easy as looking at the FAQ's and just replacing the playstation picture buttons with the Xbox letters. And if your not building a control box then you don't even have to worry about the letter buttons. Up, Down, Left, and Right will sufice. They use the same concept as almost every other controller with buttons. I can make you a labeled picture but I need you to take a picture of the circuit board as I do not have a controller avaliable to do so.... There are alot of ways to reach me. Look in my profile. ponder.gif ghost.gif

I emailed you a picture of the Dpad circuitry of the inside of the pad yesterday. I also PMed you but maybe you didn't get those. Please get those pictures to me as soon as possible. I can't wait untill I can finally play on a pad again. My soft Beat Pad broke about 2 months ago and I have been only surviving on a game or two every other week. So, please hurry. riiight.gif

quick answer for soldering to an xboxcontroller? *points to sig*

long answer? not possible to the actual controllers, you'll have to use another device, because the controllers themselves are all pressure sensitive to most of the buttons, i have pictures on that site i mention (if its loading right)

So it is or is not possible to solder to an xbox controller, you are kind of contradicting yourself. If it is can you please post a picture of the xbox inside( I'm using one of my spare fatty controllers) and label it. It would be a HUGE help.

by the look of it... i think he used REALLY thin aluminum flashing for the non-arrows... not the scratches... also, of you look at the screws that on on the non-arrows, they indnet the metal... yup, pretty sure its aluminum flashing. thin stuff... so it won't be pretty long... I too, am curious if the button will fall out if you hold it upside down tho.

Has anyone had any trouble using acrylic sheet(plexiglass, lucite) on their pad? Do the panels stay flat or is there a noticeable gap between the acrylic and whatever you have underneath it? If there is a gap, does it affect gameplay in any way? Has anyone ever had problems with the acrylic sheet scratching or clouding over time?

Sorry if this was posted already, but I'm not gonna look through 100+ pages of posts E13.gif
