I've seen some places where, if there is a member abusing TOS (like posting Outwar, ponzi schemes, etceteras) a registered member can click a "report abuse" button to "flag" the thread so a moderator or administrator can be quickly directed to the problem without needing to send PMs, which really isn't that difficult but it doesn't seem to happen much.

Has anyone considered this, or is it even possible with the software at hand?

Just an idea.

We've discussed it before. I'd say that if we DID do it, if someone flagged a thread, it would record who flagged it. That way if people abused it we could warn the person who was abusing.

Yeah, that would be important to make sure some goobers didn't flag every single thread.

I like the idea of three little buttons for each thread/post:

Yellow Flag: A caution for mods that the thread may be moving in a bad direction, flame-baiting, heated arguments etcetera where a moderator might be needed but with less prioroty then a red flag.

Red Flag: An alert for mods where the thread contains content that needs attention as soon as possible: flame wars, scam threads, other stuff.

Black Flag: An alert for mods or administrators that something illegal (like child pornography images) or very offensive has been posted, links to software containing exploits or virii, etcetera, that requires immediate attention and containment. Black Flag incidents would probably be very rare.

(Red and Black flags might be combinable into just a red flag.)

Gross yellow-flagging abuse would be worth first a warning then warning points, red and black flag abuse would warrant immediate warning points.

I would prefer just having one flag for everything. And actually, I wouldn't worry about having a "yellow flag" equivalent.

Should just have one flag and let the mods decide the serverity of the post(s) and/or thread.

One flag would be better then none, maybe the system could prioritize, put stuff that multiple people flagged at the top of a list of things to check out, something like that.

I think it would be a good idea, probably would improve things for both the users and the moderators.

I could've sworn I turned that off E19.gif

But yeah, a way to track each user who flags something would be WONDERFUL. Back in my posting hayday on GameFAQS, I swear there were some people who did NOTHING but flag every little tiny that they found even remotely offensive. (I made a thread asking "why are people so slap-nuts crazy about Phantasy Start Online?" and it got flagged for being 'offensive'.. the worst part is.. I actually got WARNED for it! GameFAQS message boards make me sad frown.gif)
