I just got into the game the day before yesterday. On a friend's suggestion I went out and bought a cheapie pad and DDRMAX2. I needed a fun active-activity since MMORPGs have rendered me rather out of shape.
Anyways yesterday I could hardly pass most songs with a E or D if I was lucky on light. Today I can hit light songs with A or B most of the time. So I got overconfident and decided to try a slower song on Standard. I can't hit the half steps!
Anyways you pros, just so I know I'm not alone. How bad were you when you first started out? | Horrible. _________________

Have You Never Been Mellow felt like a Cata on Basic! Yea, I think that just about sums up how bad I used to be. _________________

when i first started, i was good enough to think begenniner was pethetic, but bad enuf to think think in the navy was hard on light. (i NEVER play begenner, and i think if anyone had to start out with it should just give up and play another game) umm im up 2 playing catas now, only thing stopping me is stamina, cuz i havent played in months. _________________

Me and my brother started playing on the 3rd mix like in 2001 and we really really sucked!!! The only song we could pass was Upside Down by Coo Coo. We even failed Silent Hill!! We envied the people we saw that did 5-6 footers and thought we would never get that good. We bought a 3rd Mix for the PS1, a swap disk thing, and a $15 dollar pad. It only lasted us one day though so that didn't really help. We started getting better everytime we went to the arcade which wasn't very often. |

When I first started (when DDR 2nd Mix reigned supreme), my bro and I were playing "If You Were Here" by Jennifer and in the middle of the song, I fell off the board .
Heh, I was praised after my run because I actually attempted Paranoia for my last song. But still, it was pretty bad....

I think, if I remember correctly, the first song I ever did was a two footer. I did pretty well, but everyone in the room was laughing at me cause I did it almost entirely with my right foot XD. I look back and realize that I didn't do that badly for a first timer, but all the kids laughing at me made me think I sucked XD _________________

I was really bad the first time I did it, but I got hooked fast and got better quickly. It did take me a really long time to be able to play standard though.I couldn't do the 8th notes I eventually learned how to on try 2 luv u though. |

I started on DDRUSA on the playstation, and I couldn't pass Have You Never Been Mellow (a basic 1). However, I, after a few tries, could pass Boom Boom Dollar (a basic 2). I could pass a couple of other songs, too, before I could pass Have You Never Been Mellow.
Bottom line: I sucked, and I am betting the majority of everyone else did too. _________________

Dude, i was so bad, i was sweating from beginner mode, 5 months ago. I quickly got to light with 12 hours with my sister and cousin (it was my cousin's birthday, she turned 11). When my mummy got me DDRMAX2 (with TWO Red octane ignition 2.0 pads!) My commitment was to pass MaxX unlimited on light (It was hard for me back then) surely enough, 2 weeks later, i passed it with a D. Next thing i know, i'm doing 9 foot songs (with speed modifiers). So, with PRACTICE and PATINCE, you'll be steping to Maniac (Heavy) level songs in no time! _________________

Well, i had enough sense at the beginning to know to hit the arrows when they reached the top of the screen, but i still looked pretty stupid since i always returned my feet to the neutral position after every arrow..ah well.. |

I think what makes ppl bad at first is looking at the avatar on Beginner level. He always returns to the center after every step! You wont get far doing it that way! |

After playing for about four hours or so the first day I got addicted to it at the arcade, I managed to get an A on Daikenkai light...
Not bad if you ask me
Although I did nearly fall over from exaustion after I did it, I was so out of shape back then... oh well... |

I could beat 3 footers when I first started, but I progressed really slowly. I couldn't even beat B4U on standard after playing for 6 months. |

I was lucky I first started playing at my friend's house and not in an arcade, because I could even keep on my feet at first. I feel down at least three times a song, even the really, rediculously easy ones. |
