Probably not helpful, but if you really want to get your tokens' worth at arcades, I suggest you get the song for Stepmania, and practice your buttocks off until you feel comfortable. Using a dance pad connected by an adapter. Nothing's more stupid than paying $20 for 25 turns at the DDR machine (4 tokes per turn, $20 gets you 100 tokens) and failing each one. So, either do the above, or get into a freestyle routine. I find that when I freestyle, I don't have to think about the steps, but still get quite a number of perfects. _________________

I need to know, how do you go about increasing your PA towards a AAA?
For example, I have 8 greats on Kind Lady Heavy. Not a hard song, so not that impressive, but I simply cannot get rid of the last couple greats. What the hell am I supposed to do to finish it off? |

just practice, sometimes if you aren't thinking you can go great, or suck, like i wasn't even trying and i got 2 greats on nori nori nori, and i can't even get close to that now, sometimes i'll get 50 greats on butterfly, sometimes i'll get 13 just practice, you could be having a bad day, not hearing the beat correctly, just practice to try and eliminate the external factors good luck and grats ! |

I try to play on Standard, and can pass a fair amount of songs, but still having the problem with the jumps. 8th beats and triplets I'm getting very good at! |
Dear Marcuslycus,
My solution would be to put the song on 1.5 speed ...that will create some distance btwn the arrows so you can see em coming....as far as footing goes...its is just knowing what arrow is coming before the jumps...like a single left arrow before the left and down....jump on the left and down even for the single arrow..that way your foot is in the right place...next is up and down arrow with a single up and down sequence...same thing...just jump on both throughout...up right, right, up, up right....then left right, right, left, left right...
I hope this helps...I have the same problem with the crazy jumps, too!

Thank you! That's exactly the way I have passed Afronova in the past, but it feels a little like cheating, jumping like crazy on every arrow, even if its not a jump. I'll try the 1.5X thing, once my PS2 comes back from the shop...
To help other players: try to keep your eyes at the BOTTOM of the screen. What you need to do is "read" the arrows ahead of when you actually step on them. This creates a buffer of arrows in your brain, and lets you see things before they come up on you. Musicians learn to do this when reading long, hard pieces of sheet music. Which is not that different from DDRing...

The best way to pass this song is to practice it on 2x Speed first. Learn where all the gallop sequences begin and end.
Without more specific information on where you have trouble in the song (the beginning? the end with the 2 jumps? the part of the song where it starts going 1-2-3 1 1-2-3 1 1-2-2-1 1-2-2-1?...) I can not offer more info.
The other thing is...you can pass Leading Cyber, and you can not pass So Deep? Can you full combo Leading Cyber on 1x Speed? If so, then So Deep is just 500 steps of that "digital storm" part in Leading Cyber. Practice...
Oh, and it ought to be a tiring song. Don't feel bad if you can't pass it on a pad. That's how I felt about Max 300 for a while. Ask Snapple. _________________

And it's really the beginning that is killing me on So Deep. I will try it again when I get my Red Octane metal pad in tommorow and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the help . |
Inquiring minds want to know....How did you do on the new Red Octane metal pad??...we just ordered the Cobalt Flux metal pad...Both Red Octane and Cobalt Flux are the best in quality...anyhow...I hope you did well....

hi,
Does anyone have any advice on body balance? Any tips or what works for would be great. However, I do know that such things would probably best fit your style, and I'll take that into account.
Any who, the problems I'm having are songs like MaxX where the jumping is throwing me off at the beginning, and other songs like Max 300 where I have to move my feet that fast w/o the bar. It's not that I can't do it, it's that I'm moving my body too much and it feels like I"m all over the place and then it seems that I can't hit the arrows correctly .
As for practicing, I've been doing that pretty much every day for about 1 hour. It seems though I'm not doing something correctly as for those BPMs.
Sadly to say, I find MaxX easier than Max 300 ...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not quite sure if anyone can help me on this one, but hey, its worth a try. I'm trying to master R3 on heavy mode. I can read the steps perfectly fine, but there's one section I always have trouble with. The double steps that come really fast, like urgh, i just can't hit them fast enough. Should I use the bar?? |

That is debatable. Um, if it allows you to pass the song/hit those arrows, then sure. But, it is up to you.
I'd give a list of songs that would help you out if I knew them off the top of my head, but I don't . Hopefully someone else can help you better than I.

Yeah, I need work on Healing Vision (Angelix mix), I simply CANNOT AA it. I try and try and try, but I can't. Putting it on 1.5x makes it too fast, and anything below 1 makes it too clumped up to be comfortable.
Okay, so I can combo it from the start to where it has the 'theme' part of the song, you know, the part in the little clip thing where you are selecting songs. I just did it once through PERFECT, but it was luck, the second time the theme part went through, I missed most of it. -_- |

Hi,
I'd say put it on 1.5x, but to slow down the song then so you can read the arrows. Then maybe speed it up as you get the patterns down. As for myself, I put it on 2x, but that's how I read the song.

Hi,
Well, I still can't seem to get the jumps correctly on MaxX with out the bar. I have tried Max 300 recently and I can get about half way through the song . Aside from that, I'm just pushing myself w/songs such as every Paranioa, Healing Vision Angelic Mix, Exotic Ethnic,....pretty much every fast BPM or streaming song. The only one I haven't been practicing is CSFIL:SM.
Any advice would be great , thanks. (The Maxes/10 footers)

maybe coz i'm trying to pass Dead End Maniac
I can do all Trick / Basic songs, but when it comes to Maniac , I fail .. -_-
except those slow songs
any advice? o_o;;;
(EVEN THOUGH NONE OF THESE SONGS ARE ON DDRMAX, I figure it'd be good practice for when I get there )
EDIT EDIT: Maybe this is a sign, saying I should become a freestyler! |
Dont play dead end on Maniac. You shouldn't even play that song at your stage.
What you need to do is learn how to twist your foot in diffrent ways. I had this same problem in the past, but now I can play DXY on heavy {bearly and other hard songs {Not Maxes though.} You need to find songs that are moderatly fast and that has arrows connected to each other that keep you moving. Someone like you, should be practicing songs in the 7's and 8 if you can on heavy. The 7 foot songs have a lot of constant action. Practice twisting your legs and try not to step using only one foot. If you do this, you wont do good and you will usually loose your rythm as well as where you are in the screen. Try the paranoia's or the trip machines on another or standard. |
